This means all of my top three women in music have a new album out this year. Excellent!

On first listen it's very good, somewhere between Fever Ray and Silent Shout (stylistically speaking, not quality wise.. between between them would mean in my top 20 of all time so not going to say that about any album on first spin)
Might lack a big standout track, though It's too early to say as Silent Shout probably wasn't an all time best song for me on first listen either.

I hope people check this out. It's the fourth album this year I have given a 9/10 or higher, along with I See You, American Dream, and MASSEDUCTION.

Where would you rank it among those albums?

Fourth. MASSEDUCTION and American Dream are virtually tied for first.

Edit: Whoops, I forgot Perfume Genius's No Shape. That's at Plunge's level.

Hmm...I wonder if the surprise release hurt the reception of this particular album? It's a big deal when people like Beyonce or Kendrick do this, but they're also sitting at the forefront of the modern music scene. Plunge just kind of...happened, even though it's a brilliant album. I expected some sort of discussion here, but pretty much nothing.

It's sitting at an 89 on metacritic, but only 7 publications have gotten around to it. I hope Fever Ray didn't release an epic comeback album after 8 years only to be completely ignored...

Just got done listening to the album for the first time. Plunge is a sonic assault, but in the best way possible. It's been a long time since I listened to her self-titled but from what I remember about it I feel like I like this one more.

Favorite songs: IDK About You, To the Moon and Back

I really wanted to love this project. I have my reservations about the album as a whole.
But I highly recommend at least one listen of this thing. Would probably be one of the weirdest things you'll hear all year.
I can pull out at least two great tracks: "Wanna Sip" and "Red Trails."
