First Chuck, now Fats. Seeing the passing of the original rock 'n rollers. What a shame.

The end of an era for sure. Jerry Lee Lewis and Little Richard must be starting to feel really alone.

Not as alone as Don Everly, I'm guessing. (Jerry Lee, Richard, and Don are now the only surviving members of that first 1986 class of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees.)

R.I.P., Mr. Domino.

It's so sad to keep losing these legends. Fats made so many great songs and was a deserving member of the initial Rock & Roll HOF class. Unfortunately, these threads devoted to beloved, iconic musicians have been far too common the past few years. Definitely one the things that sucks about aging is needing to say goodbye to the entertainers that made your youth more enjoyable. R.I.P., Fats Domino.

Yesterday I wanted to listen to some Fats Domino in commemoration and I decided to try out one of his live albums. I ended up with this one:

Live At Montreux

Turns out it is one hell of a live album that really shows a side of Mr. Domino I hadn't heard before. I tend to view him as one of the most laid-back rockers of his era, but there is nothing relaxed about this record. It's a high-speed rockfest, with Fats assaulting the piano as a maniac and the horn section playing as if the devil is after them. I love how basically the whole thing seems to reach some sort of explosion point on Jambalaya.

I can't recommend this album enough.

I have owned the Montreux album for about 40 years. Fats was a tremendous live performer. Sampson at Digital Dream Door ranked him as one of the top 20 live acts in rock history.
