We already have a very popular thread about the top albums of 2012, so I thought I'd make one for songs. For me, it's always more of a challenge when it comes to deciding my favorite songs of the year, so I thought a thread might be a good place where we could check out some of our favorite songs from 2012 (so far). So here's my list of my top songs of the year so far, and where I expect them to roughly fall on my EOY songs list.

Surprised there were no responses to this. I've been wondering what the critical favorite of the year will be--I have a feeling "Call Me Maybe" might walk away with the P&J poll, while Pitchfork et al will stick with "Pyramids." I discovered Grimes' "Oblivion" today (I know, a little late on that one), and it's been the most immediately addictive pop song for me since "Tightrope." That will be up on my EOY along with Burial's "Ashtray Wasp," Liars' "Wixiw," Actress' "N.E.W.," and a couple of the Swans tracks.

I'm bad at remembering names to songs because, well, I hardly ever look at them. But my top two:
1. Ewert and the Two Dragons - Jolene
2. Jack White - Love Interrupted
Jolene is kind of brilliant. It's the husband's response to the Dolly Parton song of the same name. "No thanks Jolene, I love my wife." The country tradition assumes the man will always be tempted by the younger, sexier woman, and that he has no inherent loyalty and decency, and this song reverses that assumption.

I think "Call Me Maybe" will place somewhere in the 2000 to bubbling under range when the update for 2012 songs comes around. I don't think it will win the P&J poll, though it will get placed on a fair amount of lists.
As for Pitchfork's pick- "Pyramids" is essentially a given. "Pyramids" will also almost definitely place top 5 of the year in the AM EOY 2012 spreadsheet.
