Decided to give Nancy & Lee a second chance. I still don't get it.

Choice of songs are all folksy-cutesy and their delivery of such comes off as forced. In Greenwich Folk Song Salesman they unamusingly quip at each other about the fact they are singing such big words. The two voices clash with each other and fail to emotionally connect with the stories they're telling. Lee Hazelwood sounds like if Leonard Cohen with every emotional note stripped except the sarcastic disconnect. The entire album clashes with itself.

I agree that some songs have this quality. (It's why I ended up going with the more consistent Saint Etienne.) But I certainly think "Some Velvet Morning" is an exception to this. In the case of this particular song, the contrast feels perfect to me. Lee sounds sinister; Nancy sounds innocent and naïve. It's like a dark singalong between Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf.

The Lion and the Cobra 65 - Atomizer 35
Santogold 83 - Scott 3 75
So Tough 92 - Nancy & Lee 55

Bare Knuckle I actually didn't listen to first time around because it was against Dare To Be Stupid which, while awesome, I didn't feel I could rate against a non-comedy album. I will make sure to listen to it this week. Coming From Reality gets a 83.

I will say, there are some parts in Nancy & Lee where I started to enjoy it. Mostly parts where one person was singing, then the other person came in, and the voices just didn't match up, or the Sinatra-esque musical backing didn't match the tone of the song and it all felt weird again.
