Funny coincidence: both of these ties included one of my nominations. You saved one of them (Cohen) and killed-off the other (Babymetal). I guess I can't complain too much about losing the last one, because my other four nominations have all made it to the second round.

As I did the last two editions I'm going to include some stats about the nominated albums:

a) RYM Rating:
Year after year I tell that "the perfect definition of "Moderately Acclaimed Album" could be an album with a RYM rating between 3,00 and 3,99." This year is not different with the 94,75% of the albums falling in this category (with the 72,65% between 3,51 a 4,00). And again we have a mean value of the RYM rating almost identical to the past years (now 3,6553125 with 3,65265625 in 2016 and 3,65503937 in 2015). So we had the best rating of the last three years but with a minimal difference.

But we had this year slightly more dispersion than the last two years, with a standard deviation of 0,237220024 and eight albums outside the limits (less than 3.00 and higher than 4.00) while in 2016 we had only two and in 2015 we had 5 albums. So this year we have two albums with a ranking lower than 3 and six albums with a ranking higher than 4. Anyone want to have a guess? Like the previous years I got some clues to help you:
a) These 8 albums are from 4 different nations.
b) 5 of these 8 albums are not sung/written in English.
c) 2 of these albums can be filed under Metal genre.
d) The two albums with higher ratings are Soundtracks.
e) One album got as main styles on RYM Indie Rock and Post-Rock.
Any takers?

b) Year of release:
This year we had a slightly "older" selection of albums, with a mean value of 1991 (the last two years it was 1992) with a more balanced distribution by decades. The decade most represented this year is the 1990s (closely followed by the 2000s).

c) Nationality:

Last year I did not take nationalities into account, but in 2015 we had albums from 22 different nationalities. This year we had "only" 15, showcasing again the open-minded attitude of the forum participants. Again we had USA and UK as the most represented nations. On the following graphic you will find the countries with more than two albums on the game. The rest of the countries included Germany, Ireland and Sweden with two albums and Denmark, Norway, Austria and Italy with one album.

My votes for Round 2.1:

3. The Jam - Sound Affects (1980)
vs.
6. Bill Callahan - Sometimes I Wish We Were an Eagle (2009)

8. Garbage - Version 2.0 (1998)
vs.
1. Novos Baianos - Acabou chorare (1972)

4. Nilsson - Aerial Ballet (1968)
vs.
2. Almendra - Almendra (1969)

7. Mitski - Retired from Sad, New Career in Business (2013)
vs.
5. Fishmans - Long Season (1996)

I'll have to guess the two soundtracks are my nominations (Once Upon a Time in the West and Twin Peaks), while a lower one is likely BABYMETAL.

Exactly, Bleupanda! 3 of 8!!

I'd have to guess it would be an album that people would have listened to without necessarily liking the genre; I doubt many people would listen to Chau on a whim. Babymetal was easy to guess since it got a lot of talk outside of its specific circle.

I feel like metal would be a good area; how about City of Evil? That album had a lot of tracks featured in the Guitar Hero franchise, so I figure it would get more attention than other albums that didn't perform very well in their matches.

Don't know why the graphics stopped showing properly, a problem with Photobucket probably. I will wait for a few days to see if they fix it.

Yes, you're both right. "City of Evil" was the lowest ranked album. Probably it's because many RYM users are serious Metal fans and they see Avenged Svenfold and Babymetal as betrayers, as making a watered-down take of their favourite style and taking it to the masses. Me? I strongly disagree, especially with Babymetal, an original, vibrant and funny mix of Metal and J-Pop. No style should be sacred...
What about the remaining four albums? Three of them are not sung in English. One more clue: two of them are from the Southern Hemisphere.

My numbers 1 to 5 are very close together in appreciation, so please take these rankings with a big grain of salt this week.

3. The Jam - Sound Affects vs. 1. Bill Callahan - Sometimes I Wish We Were an Eagle
Would love to have seen these two continue for a couple of more rounds, but alas, they meet each other already. Both great albums for different reasons. Callahan simply moves me, so I have to vote for him, but thanks for the fun The Jam!

6. Garbage - Version 2.0 vs. 5. Novos Baianos - Acabou chorare
So... After having been drowned in praise the first round, the wonderful Acabou chorare seems to be losing big time to Version 2.0. And that is really an album I consider a lesser follow-up to a very solid original. What's up?

7. Nilsson - Aerial Ballet vs. 8. Almendra - Almendra
The very hit-and-miss Aerial Ballet versus an album I still totally fail to connect it. I don't dislike Almendra, it just goes past me. Both don't seem up to par with the other selections this week, at least in my opinion.

4. Mitski - Retired from Sad, New Career in Business vs. 2. Fishmans - Long Season
Even the unfortunate "toilet sounds" in the half of Long Season don't cost it it's vote against a great Mitski effort. Just like the match this is a duel between to albums that deserve more rounds.

With your vote, I think Garbage is losing 6-7? :?

As a huge Garbage fan (well, their first two albums anyway), you got my hopes up for a minute there. ;)

You are right... Somehow I just noticed all these Garbage votes in a row and called it a day without counting. Laziness...
