Re: Moderately Acclaimed 3 (MA3) Round 2.5
Shouldn't we have Robert Palmer's Sneakin' Sally Through the Alley versus Terry Callier's What Color Is Love this week, rather than the Buckley versus Browne bracket? Not that it really matters of course.

3. Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece
4. Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years
5. Laura Nyro - New York Tendaberry
6. Jackson Browne - Running On Empty
7. Tim Buckley - Goodbye and Hello

Yes, my apologies. I'll correct this. Greg - Please cast your vote for the Palmer vs. Callier matchup.
Thanks Stephan!
Thanks Stephan!

No problem. Is it possible for me to send in my picks for the coming two weeks through email? I'm going on holidays and I would hate to miss voting because of it. If so, let me know which email you'd like me to send the votes to.
Re: Moderately Acclaimed 3 (MA3) Round 2.5
4. Terry Callier - What Color Is Love

Os Mutantes - Os Mutantes (#185)
Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece (8/10)
Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years (#81)

A few days after Rain Dogs became the first album other than Are You Experienced or Blonde On Blonde to hold my all time #1 position in ten years, my vote goes to its followup.
Gotan Project - La Revancha del Tango 7/10
John Coltrane - Ole Coltrane (#639)
Robert Palmer - Sneakin Through The Alley With Sally 5/10
Terry Callier - What Color Is Love 9/10
Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece (8/10)

1. Os Mutantes - Os Mutantes vs. Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece
When I'm in the mood for Van Morrison, he can't be beat. But I'm just not in that mood this week.
2. Laura Nyro - New York Tendaberry vs. Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years
I still think that FWY goes off the rails by the end, when Waits starts channeling a crazed Sinatra. But the sheer scope of ideas contained on this album wins it for me.

Re: Moderately Acclaimed 3 (MA3) Round 2.5
Some brief comments from Lorient, Morbihan, Britanny, France.
1. Os Mutantes - Os Mutantes vs. Van Morrison - Veedon Fleece
I love the Os Mutantes debut, tropicália will never sound so exciting again, probably I would have voted for them on any other bracket or even against the 95% of the Van Morrison discography. But not against "Veedon Fleece," almost an "Astral Weeks Part 2," sharing the same fascinating and dreamy ambiance, (part of) the same imaginative instrumentation and the same balsamic effects on listeners like me.
2. Laura Nyro - New York Tendaberry vs. Tom Waits - Franks Wild Years
I like a lot the third part of the solid trilogy of Tom Waits Island albums and I think that "Franks Wild Years" is undeservedly underrated but my vote goes to the most intense and dramatic release by Laura Nyro, ranging from whisper to cry and giving herself maybe too far on her most rabidly anti-commercial album.
3. Gotan Project - La revancha del tango vs. John Coltrane - Olé Coltrane
Two albums that fuse Latin music with other styles, tango with electronic and flamenco with jazz. Both succeed on it but probably Coltrane fusion sounds more natural, integrating fluidly the Spanish music on his unique brand of jazz, under the obvious influence of Davis' previous "Sketches of Spain."
4. Robert Palmer - Sneakin’ Sally Through the Alley vs. Terry Callier - What Color Is Love
I know that many of knew previously the Terry Callier album but for me it has been one the discoveries of this MA3, a deep folk-soul album that gives its full meaning to the word "deep." The Robert Palmer album was a nice surprise too but no competition here.
