Top 50 Dave Grohl Songs (voting starts now!)

Post by StevieFan13 »

I'm postponing the Damon Albarn list until after the rest of the new Gorillaz album is released so voters can add songs from it if need be. In the meantime, let's take a look at one of the greatest drummers (and nicest guys) of all time: Dave Grohl!
Image
For this list, any song with Grohl involved in any capacity (singing, guitar, and, more often than not, drums) counts, so you can include Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, Tenacious D, whatever. Same rules about scoring and amount of songs you can list apply from the other top 50s. Voting ends this Sunday. Have fun!

That's one of the 2 songs from Songs for the Deaf where Gene Trautmann was on drums.

Songs for the Deaf is still my favorite rock album of all time, so unsurprisingly it dominates here, but my music education started with the Foos more than Nirvana, so I probably end up with more of them than most people will.
Not judging the songs on Dave Grohl’s performance only, or Mosquito Song wouldn’t be there and Scentless Apprentice, with one of the most memorable drum patterns ever, would be top 5. (and A Song for the Dead would be #1)

1) Queens of the Stone Age - A Song for the Deaf
2) Foo Fighters - Hey Johnny Park
3) Queens of the Stone Age - A Song for the Dead
4) Foo Fighters - Good Grief
5) Queens of the Stone Age - No One Knows
6) Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
7) Foo Fighters - Everlong
8) Tenacious D - Tribute
9) Queens of the Stone Age - Fairweather Friends
10) Nirvana - Aneurysm
11) Queens of the Stone Age - Mosquito Song
12) Nirvana - Where Did You Sleep Last Night
13) Foo Fighters - Low
14) Nirvana - Scentless Apprentice
15) Foo Fighters - My Hero
16) Cat Power - He War
17) Nirvana - In Bloom
18) Queens of the Stone Age - I Appear Missing
19) Probot - Shake Your Blood (for “some reason”, the video was one of my favorite back then. I’ve grown up since.)
20) Them Crooked Vultures - No One Loves Me & Neither Do I
21) Foo Fighters - All My Life
22) Nirvana - Breed
23) Nirvana - Something in the Way (Unplugged)
24) Queens of the Stone Age - Six Shooters
25) Foo Fighters - The Pretender

Whoops! I'll switch it out with D.O.A.

I'd always previously thought of Grohl as a nice guy, but wasn't too impressed at a festival in 2011 when he took verbal swipes at a few of the other headline acts for using computers too much - he relies on technology as well - and did exaggerated guitar moves in front of one of the security staff who then had no option but to stare straight ahead and look silly.

He gets stupid sometimes, but by and large he seems like a decent guy. I mean, look, he's doing a series of interviews with his mom. You can't be cynical about that.

I can be cynical about most things, but I'll try not to take the thread any further off topic for the time being.

In light of "Go With the Flow" not being eligible, I've replaced that song with Foo Fighter's "Big Me".

It's similar enough, so I'll keep it there.

My read is that it's so much work for StevieFan to tally these that he doesn't wanna do it atm. So this is kinda hanging and it's fine, whatever Stevie wants to do.

Ding-ding-ding. Technically, this and the Damon Albarn poll both wrapped up, but I've had so much work lately that it's been impossible to tally the results. Sorry to keep you fine folks waiting! I promise I'll get back to work on polls here when my schedule clears up. Could someone tabulate the last two polls, though?
