World's Biggest Earworm
For fun (or dismay), what would you say is the catchiest song of all time? If one of your picks isn't here, vote other and say what you'd pick. These were just the first songs that came to mind when I thought "catchy as hell." Especially the first two.

The Final Countdown (as world's biggest earworm, not catchiest)
Re: World's Biggest Earworm
Just out of curiosity, what was the criteria for the songs listed? (For example, "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" and "Ms. Jackson" are great, but I've never considered them particularly "catchy." I've also never considered myself big on catchy songs, so I'm a little surprised that the only songs on the list that I actively dislike are "I'm Yours," "Macarena," and "Absolutely (Story of a Girl)."

Just songs that get stuck in your head. Not necessarily good, but catchy. I also don't like I'm Yours, but once it's in your head, it'll never leave.jamieW wrote:Just out of curiosity, what was the criteria for the songs listed? There was a study that found that ABBA'S "S.O.S." was the catchiest pop song ever.

Sounds about right. Pretty much anything by ABBA is bound to get stuck in your head.prosecutorgodot wrote:There was a study that found that ABBA'S "S.O.S." was the catchiest pop song ever.

Got it. Two other songs that I've always considered REALLY catchy are "MMMBop" and "Tubthumping." (I'm guilty of liking both of these, too.)StevieFan13 wrote:Just songs that get stuck in your head. Hmmm. I would say "Le petit bonhomme en mousse" by Patrick Sébastien

I like them too! Some more notably catchy one hit wonders:jamieW wrote:Got it. Two other songs that I've always considered REALLY catchy are "MMMBop" and "Tubthumping." Unbelievable
500 Miles
Blue (Da Ba Dee) - I don't really like this one
And, for a non-OHW, I should probably have switched out Grapevine with Call Me Maybe as a voting option.

Call Me Maybe would be my vote, though part of that might be due to living through that craze.
Re: World's Biggest Earworm
Another one said the Spice Girls' Wannabe, with S.O.S. at #5

There aren't many places around where you'd see "Take Me Out" leading this type of poll.
Re: World's Biggest Earworm
I voted for "Take Me Out" because it was my favorite of the songs that are actually "catchy" to me, though I do like both "Grapevine" and "Ms. Jackson" better. My sentimental choice would be "Take a Chance on Me" - definitely catchy, and I absolutely love listening to it. It's one of those songs that always makes me happy.Listyguy wrote:There aren't many places around where you'd see "Take Me Out" leading this type of poll.
Re: World's Biggest Earworm
You picked a lot of the really catchy ones but for me the most catchy of all time is Born To Run.
Out of the ones listed I would say Get Lucky.

Also, if it weren't for two people already voting for it, I'd switch "I Heard It Through the Grapevine" out with "Call Me Maybe." I dunno, "Grapevine" always struck me as very catchy. I sing it to myself all the time.

ABBA is great music to just make you happy. Even John Lennon called them geniuses.jamieW wrote:My sentimental choice would be "Take a Chance on Me" - definitely catchy, and I absolutely love listening to it. It's one of those songs that always makes me happy.

Re: World's Biggest Earworm
Actually, since nobody's voted for either Macarena or I'm Yours, I'm switching them out for Call Me Maybe and Wannabe (inexplicably, I haven't actually heard Wannabe too many times. I was born three years after it came out and it didn't pop up on the radio stations I listened to very often).

Call Me Maybe is much more virulent than Macarena.
What about What Does The Fox Say?
And don't know the name but that noxious Michael Buble song.

And that would be Haven't Met You Yet, and screw you forever for reminding me of that stupid song.

Tubthumper is another one, though it's not a bad song.
