Excellent tunes this week, looking forward to listen or mostly re-listen.

1. Neneh Cherry - Raw Like Sushi (2.5)vs. The Kinks - Face To Face (4.5)
Aside from the two rather good singles which start Neneh's debut, this sound very much like a late 80s Salt'n'Pepa, with a slight soul R&B twist. Case in point, "The Next Generation" which is particularly horrible and lyrically falls absolutely flat.
Face to Face, on the other hand, is my favorite Kinks album, a band which I value to the level of the Beatles or Rolling Stones in the 60s.

2. Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare (4.0) vs. 808 State - 90 (3.0)
Arctic Monkeys have never disappointed me, they have a knack for writing great indie rock songs. Their second album falls in that category as well. 808 State acid house has aged pretty badly.

3. Dead Can Dance - Spleen and Ideal (4.5) vs. Arthur Russell - Another Thought (2.5)
Dead Can Dance first "real" album starts a classic four album series which I absolutely fell in love with in my goth years. With retrospect, DCD stood the test of time (unlike The Mission, Fields of the Nephilim, etc...). The mix of pop/rock sensibilities (the drumming is clearly sourced from a rock band), sounds from the Middle Age (harps) and the two main singers (aaah Lisa Gerrard..., but Brendan Perry is also a hell of a voice) just clicks for me. Absolutely beautiful stuff. Arthur Russell's voice is grating and the music is simply not special enough to make it stand out.

4. Manuel Göttsching - Inventions for Electric Guitar (3.5)vs. La Femme - Mystère (4.5)
Very impressed by Manuel Gottsching. The first part of the album (the best) sounds like a Blue Aeroplanes song which I particularly enjoy. The guitar sound is hypnotic, definitely something to add to my list of "must relisten". Nonetheless, it doesn't match Mystère's brilliance. The French band manages to mix updated 80s tunes and melodies (alternating female and male voices) and a certain sexuality which reminds me of Gainsbourg. I think he would approve (Romain ?). One of the highlights of 2016 and a hope for French music.

Really no time for comments this week, besides that it is an exceptionally strong selection this week. Even my #8 was still very good. Match-up 3 is pure cruelty and match-up 2 is hardly easier.

8. Neneh Cherry - Raw Like Sushi vs. 5. The Kinks - Face To Face
3. Arctic Monkeys - Favourite Worst Nightmare vs. 4. 808 State - 90
1. Dead Can Dance - Spleen and Ideal vs. 2. Arthur Russell - Another Thought

Looks like I'm a bit late but my vote for Arthur Russell wouldn't have changed anything. :)
