At work I tend to listen to either Mono or Hammock - based on my mood of course - both have all their albums on YouTube - every other site is blocked haha.

2002 Albums
01 | Sigur Rós | ( )
02 | Interpol | Turn On The Bright Lights
03 | The Flaming Lips | Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots
04 | Mono | One Step More And You Die
05 | Múm | Finally We Are No One
06 | VNV Nation | Futureperfect

10 | Pet Shop Boys | Release
11 | Low | Trust
12 | Air Formation | Ends In Light
13 | Peter Gabriel | Up
14 | Coldplay | A Rush Of Blood To The Head
15 | M83 | M83

Please be aware that my "Songs" List is organized strangely, and thus not terribly valid for your project - I only include songs that are NOT already on my "Albums" List - but go ahead and include them anyways!

2002 Songs
01 | Luna | Lovedust
02 | Luna | Astronaut
03 | The Decemberists | July, July!
04 | Apoptygma Berzerk | Suffer In Silence
05 | Muse | Shrinking Universe
06 | New Order | Here To Stay
07 | Godspeed You! Black Emperor | Rockets Fall On Rockets Fall
08 | Suede | Lost In TV
09 | Suede | Lonely Girls
10 | Malory | Space In Your Mind

12 | Wilco | Radio Cure
13 | LCD Soundsystem | Losing My Edge
14 | Broken Social Scene | Anthems for a Seventeen Year Old Girl
15 | The Doves | Here Comes the Fear

Does anybody think my taste looks particularly bad? odd? or just a typical hodgepodge of narrow scope?

Welcome to the forum PetShopBoy. Great lists. I have never heard Mono or Air Formation - always good to be pointed at new to me artists. FYI M83 & Shrinking Universe were 2001 releases.

Is there really a debate about YHF as #1 of this year? (list forthcoming)

I have not done any math, but Yoshimi has decent upset odds I bet for #1.

And I have been able to resist YHF... but it helps to have terrible taste, so there's that.

I've been told I'm the KING of terrible taste in music . And one of the main reasons is coming up in a week when we list our faves from 2003. Not only do I think critics had 2003 totally wrong but the stuff I do like is some of my faves of all time. Plain and simple 2003 is my all time favorite year in music. People notoriously LOATHE 2003 and consider it one of the worst years ever for music.

...how? Between Beyoncé, Jay Z, the White Stripes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Strokes, OutKast, and Weird Al, I think you've got the right idea.

I believe PetShopBoy and luvlongTIM were discussing whose taste was worse. I mean, I don't think either of their lists are that bad, and I believe in no judging (I put Get Low on my list and was this close to putting A Thousand Miles on my 2001 list, and I know for a fact that Stacy's Mom is going to be on my 2003 list).

Well Pitchfork would got nuts next week cause I'm probably going to list their dreaded notoriously loathed Liz Phair by Liz Phair on my list. That was the moment I lost so much respect for Pitchfork. Snobbery at its very worst. But I'll still take the compliment thank you very much ;)

ALBUMS results.

37 voters voted for 172 different albums. Nine clear cut favourites, then The Rising won the final automatic promotion. After that only 3 albums look hopeful of making the wildcard cut.

Rank | Artist | Album | Points | # Voters
1 | Wilco | Yankee Hotel Foxtrot | 640 | 25
2 | The Flaming Lips | Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots | 567 | 22
3 | Queens of the Stone Age | Songs for the Deaf | 481 | 19
4 | Coldplay | A Rush of Blood to the Head | 470 | 21
5 | Interpol | Turn on the Bright Lights | 418 | 21
6 | Sleater-Kinney | One Beat | 366 | 13
7 | Beck | Sea Change | 246 | 20
7 | Sigur Rós | () | 246 | 12
9 | The Streets | Original Pirate Material | 211 | 12
10 | Bruce Springsteen | The Rising | 139 | 9

These are the current leaders in the race for wild card positions in our decade poll:-

1 | Deltron 3030 | Deltron 3030 | 2000 | 183
2 | D'Angelo | Voodoo | 2000 | 176

19 | Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man | Out of Season | 2002 | 107
20 | Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds | No More Shall We Part | 2001 | 99

We have chosen 2 albums from outside the AM top 10 for 2002:
Sleater-Kinney | One Beat | AM Rank =22
Brice Springsteen | The Rising | AM Rank =17

Compared with our last year 2002 poll, we promoted Bruce Springsteen “The Rising” (from #12), and Sigur Rós “( )” (from #13). Replacing Spoon “Kill The Moonlight” (down to #19) and Broken Social Scene “You Forgot It in People” (down to #22). Those two album are too far down the wild-card rankings to have any realistic chance of making the decade poll now. “Kill The Moonlight” made #65 in the 2011 2000s decade poll, so a bit of a snub there.

SONG results.

37 voters voted for 277 different songs. Again a clear top nine and then a scramble for 10th. However, the songs that missed out made better inroads into the wildcard list than did the albums.

2 | Coldplay | Clocks | 374 | 16
3 | Johnny Cash | Hurt | 358 | 18

7 | Wilco | Jesus, Etc. | 239 | 13
8 | Queens of the Stone Age | No One Knows | 220 | 16
9 | LCD Soundsystem | Losing My Edge | 165 | 12
10 | Coldplay | The Scientist | 117 | 10

These are the current leaders in the race for wild card positions in our decade poll:-
