AMF Weekly Chart 17.7
Bonjour à tous and welcome to the new AMF Weekly Chart, version 17.7 !
Stable participation again this week, we can't seem to break the 100 votes mark. Shame !
Highlights of the week
A new number one with the acclaimed SAMPHA's Blood on Me, straight to number one (and the only new entry this week), followed closely by Spoon's Hot Thoughts.
Childish Gambino's Redbone enters the 2017 Hall of Fame (by the smallest margin, it was losing steam fast)
We lose Depeche Mode's Where's the Revolution
Not enough nominations this week !!!! I've therefore decided to add nominations which didn't make it in the previous week (call that a "repêchage").
The Artist :
Sampha Sisay (born 16 November 1988), who uses the stage name Sampha,is a British singer, songwriter and record producer from Morden, South London, United Kingdom.Sampha is known widely for his collaborative work with SBTRKT, Jessie Ware, Drake, Kanye West, Solange, Koreless, Lil Silva, Katy B and others. Sampha has released two solo EPs: Sundanza (2010)and Dual (2013). Sampha's debut album, Process, was released on 3 February 2017, through Young Turks. (Wikipedia)
The Song
The song’s hook, “I swear they smell the blood on me/I hear them coming for me,” signals a fight-or-flight reaction; it’s time for Sampha to move, and he does so, matching one of the fastest, most uniquely propulsive tracks he’s ever graced with his vocals. Absent of vibrato, or flaws for that matter, Sampha’s voice tends to communicate calmness—on “Blood on Me,” he sounds more desperate, in need of help and escape. There’s more force to his delivery. Sampha sings, “I’m on this road now/I’m so alone now, swervin’ out of control now,” but quickly resolves that “your strength runs through me.” On “Blood on Me,” Sampha steps out a bit, to find that even the brashest need comfort. "Give Me a Reason" by Ibibio Sound Machine
From NPR:
"For all her unrestrained uplift, Williams gets serious on one of the album's most arresting cuts, "Give Me A Reason." Beneath the dark, propulsive bass and bursts of brass, she tells the story of 276 Nigerian girls, yet to be found, who were kidnapped by Boko Haram in 2014. But she turns this tragedy into an impassioned call for empowerment, as the band slathers the groove in sleek, Prince-worthy hooks."

Do we just nominate songs for this? And do they have to have come out this week?

Yes you nominate songs which you particularly like. Nominations are selected on songs which are less than six months old unless they have had some recent spotlight (like a new video).
Nominate away... I'll let u know if it does qualify or not

Re: AMF Weekly Chart 17.7
That's a lot
Ivy Sole is OK, Bombpops too.
Usually you nominate one or two songs, as the field is limited to 10 new songs per week, less on Mcch weeks, where the new entries get featured before nominations. This week, for example, we will probably have only 4-5 nominations which make it in the top 20 .
Then, chronology of nominations matter, so get them in early if you can. You also are encouraged to "second" or get your nominations seconded so they get at the top of the pile, in front of all the other nominations. This week, the Weeknd was seconded, so it is sure to feature in next week's chart.
Don't forget to vote on the chart if not done already
