MCCh 2017 (02) February 15

Postby Otisredding » Wed Feb 15, 2017 7:12 am

The best albums of 2017 (update February 15)

The numbers presented next to each album title are the weighted average rating and the number of reviews (out of 30 included sources). The weighted average is based on a formula that includes a) the average of ratings and b) the number of sources that have rated the album.

The magazines I used for the ratings were:
EUR + Australia: Gaffa-dk; Gaffa-sw; Humo; Indiestyle; Jenesaispop; Laut; Mondosonoro; Musikexpress; Nojesguiden; Ondarock; Plattentests; Sentire Ascoltare; The Music
UK: DIY; Drowned In Sound; The Guardian; Music OMH; NME; The Line Of Best Fit; The Skinny; The 405
USA + Canada: Allmusic; AV Club; Consequence Of Sound; Exclaim!; Paste; Pitchfork; Popmatters; Rolling Stone; Tinymixtapes; Under The Radar

Highlights: These are the top three songs from the album according to Allmusic, Consequence of Sound, Jenesaispop, Plattentests, The Skinny, Beardfood, BostonGlobe, Nowtoronto, Entertainment Weekly, etc…

Otis, thanks for the update!

You've got the wrong date (February 31) in the topic title.

All new albums are on Spotify! Here is your twice-a-month Taste of MetaCritic, based on the three mentioned highlights:

The Ty Segall tracks:

Warm Hands (Freedom Returned): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqD_4ZvxI48

Orange Color Queen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xbEQgKFor9Y

Take Care (to Comb Your Hair): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bycWOz6RwIg

If there are going to be more albums like Segall's that aren't on Spotify I might try to make a YouTube playlist out of them.

I noticed and updated the list accordingly. I also changed the order of the songs to fit new album rankings (Julie Byrne made quite the jump).

Rob, can you just do hyperlinks? My Internet connection will throw a major fit if you do the icons, too.

I've changed it. I hope it's not a problem if the Spotify playlist stays like it is.

Thank you. I just meant the YouTube links; Spotify works fine. The big YouTube icons... Those are the real issue. Again. Thank you so very much, Rob.
