How many times have you asked this question?
Re: Where will Blackstar rank in the 2017 update?
Wait, does someone actually think Blackstar will be in the all-time top 10 in the next update?!?!?!?

I mean, it's good, but it's not that good. I think it might bump into the top 100 in the same way To Pimp a Butterfly did, but there's no guarantee its plaudits are enough to topple the other heavy hitters.Harold wrote:Wait, does someone actually think Blackstar will be in the all-time top 10 in the next update?!?!?!?

I'd believe anywhere from 90 to 250. It might eventually fare as well as Funeral and MBDTF but will need more than year end lists to do so.

And now there are two top ten votes. Seriously, who are you and what could possibly be your rationale for this?Harold wrote:Wait, does someone actually think Blackstar will be in the all-time top 10 in the next update?!?!?!?

Re: Where will Blackstar rank in the 2017 update?
I mean, I can see it showing up in the inevitable updates to the Rolling Stone/NME lists, but until the end of the decade, it's a little too soon to call it an easy entry into the top 10 based only off of year-end lists and one all-time list (the 1001 Albums book).Harold wrote:And now there are two top ten votes. Re: Where will Blackstar rank in the 2017 update?
For an album to debut at top 10 of all-time, it would have to place 1st in just about every EOY list and also appear in just about every fresh all-time list that's added.
I feel like that
Re: Where will Blackstar rank in the 2017 update?
It's got to be either (1) people messing around or (2) people who thought the question refers to Blackstar's place among 2016 albums, not all time (it's not exactly clear from the OP to be fair).Harold wrote:And now there are two top ten votes. To me the more interesting question is where Blackstar will end up among 2010s albums. Through 7 years this decade, my guess is the top three will shake out as MBDTF, To Pimp a Butterfly, and Blackstar, but it's hard to say in what order.

We still have 3 years. Something could come right out of nowhere and topple 'em all.

I assure you my Top Ten vote was entirely genuine.

Interesting. What was your rationale?BleuPanda wrote:I assure you my Top Ten vote was entirely genuine.

OK Computer, which among a newer generation of listeners and critics seems to be the Best Album Ever or in the discussion, isn't even in the AM top 10 unofficial update... So no way for Blackstar.

It's simple enough - I've been forging a series of lists and secretly sending them to Henrik, all in the hopes of immediately boosting Blackstar to astronomical levels. Don't let him know, though

I guarantee that nobody seriously thinks Blackstar will make top ten all time in its debut on AM.
Realistically the album will place around the 130 mark or so.

Re: Where will Blackstar rank in the 2017 update?
I dunno. Maybe a little higher than that? If To Pimp a Butterfly (now our classic example of an album propelled into the top 100 almost entirely through year-end lists) could break through the way it did, I'd give Blackstar a little more credit than that.Nick wrote:

No. 111. Completely random guess.
Re: Where will Blackstar rank in the 2017 update?
Henrik recently said that he's revised the formula and that, because of this revision, "To Pimp a Butterfly" will enter in at around #130. I'm basing my guess of "Blackstar"'s ranking off of the idea that it has a pretty similar amount of acclaim.StevieFan13 wrote:I dunno. Maybe a little higher than that?
