Re: Moderately Acclaimed Albums 7 - Round 4.1
I see two of my selections made it to the final 16. I also see they are facing each other. I guess I should vote then.
Red over Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)
There's a part of me that thinks Red is King Crimson's best album. I'm not completely convinced yet (I mean, it does have "Providence" on it), but it's pretty close. Eno's album is great too, but I didn't have to think very hard about this one.

Re: Moderately Acclaimed Albums 7 - Round 4.1
Some comments this round...
1. King Crimson - Red (1974) vs. Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) (1974)
Two albums released in 1974 (within one month of difference) by two close friends (by then they already had an album as Fripp & Eno) that shared a common inclination to experimentalism. But these albums could not be more different, Eno was at the beginning his ground-breaking career and Fripp was deliberately closing the first part of his career, saying goodbye to Prog-Rock. But can someone think of a more brilliant (almost orgasmic) closer to a whole style than the song "Starless"?
2. The Cure - Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me (1987) vs. Amon Düül II - Yeti (1970)
The battle of the double albums. I know that The Cure album is not the cool choice here, and moreover I'm aware that its mid 80s sound hasn't aged well and the Kraut-Rock sound of Amon Düül II's magnum opus looks more relevant today. I also know that the album is somehow uneven and the previous and posterior albums ("The Head on the Door" and "Disintegration") were far more consistent. But what can I do? It contains "Just Like Heaven"!!! So, Robert Smith, please kiss me, kiss me, kiss me…
3. Kashiwa Daisuke - Program Music I (2007) vs. Julee Cruise - Floating into the Night (1989)
Ladies and gentlemen, we are floating in space. Ethereal sounds in both albums, even narcotic in "Floating into the Night," a trio effort with David Lynch on (mysterious) lyrics, Angelo Badalamenti on (dreamy) music and Julee Cruise on (sweet) voice, delivering a fascinating retro-modern sound. But not as unique as the Kashiwa Daisuke album, a mixture of Glitch Electronica and Modern Classical with elements of Jazz and Pop that creates a beauty so intense that is able to obliterate your senses.
4. Duke Ellington and His Orchestra - Masterpieces by Ellington (1951) vs. Jimmy Cliff - Jimmy Cliff (1969)
Back to earth after the ethereal bracket. Cliff's second album is an excellent sample of early reggae (including his immortal "Many Rivers to Cross"). But the Ellington album showcases how technology influences art. Like the microphone allowed the singers to whisper directly into you ear, the long play albums allowed musicians to express themselves out of the jail of the 3 minutes single. Ellington sounded in his first album (46 minutes, 4 songs) like a just released prisoner running free.

2. The Cure - Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me
3. Julee Cruise - Floating into the Night
I'm being totally uncool here with my choices and for not voting in all matches, but I deeply love these albums so I figured it might be time to step into this game now... Anyway, I am very glad that these albums could reach round 4 even without my help.
I have listened to Red and Taking Tiger too, but can't decide. Both are albums with one huge favorite (Starless and Fat Lady of Limbourg), but otherwise I definitely prefer other albums by each artist.
