Help wanted - additional info for almost 3,000 songs!

Post by Henrik »

In the attached Excel sheet I have almost 3,000 pre-2015 songs that I plan to add to AM. When these songs have been added I will extend the all-time list from 6,000 to 10,000 songs.

I need help to complete the info in the spreadsheet. If you want to help me, tell everyone else what you're planning to do (here in this thread) and when you're done post the updated spreadsheet. Thanks in advance!

If you are uncertain if a band is mainly female fronted, go with the main vocalist. Or use the L column to write comments. This is a similar thread to the 3 years old "Help wanted - additional info for over 4,000 songs!" thread.
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1344
If you have any other questions, you might find answers in the discussion there.

I will also need a Spotify playlist of all these songs, but it's probably better to start a separate thread for that.

However, I have finally realised that I don't have enough time to add these songs in this year's update. It will be an update where 2015 albums and songs will be added plus a lot of all-time lists, etc. Many of the almost 3,000 songs presented here appear in the new all-time lists and would make the update of the 6,000 list if they were added. But I just don't have enough time, so it will have to be an "incomplete" new top 6,000. Even if I could get quick help with this spreadsheet it's a lot of work left for me to do, that requires more time than I currently have.

PS. Of course, if you don't have time to help, you're still welcome to have a sneak preview of what's coming up... :D

Are there supposed to be only 80 songs in the spreadsheet?

Is is absolutely necessary to introduce Michel Sardou and Serge Lama songs? :(

Otherwise, just a note: "Là-bas" is not credited to Jean-Jacques & Sirima Goldman but to Jean-Jacques Goldman & Sirima. Sirima was never a member of Goldman's family, she was a singer in Paris' subway; she impressed Goldman in some way and was invited to sing a duet with him. Her sudden resulting popularity in France had her lover become jealous of her, and he assassinated her. A very tragic story.

I will probably help with this later, but I need to clarify my own agenda before committing myself to it.

The Michel Sardou song is listed in no less than 6 French lists.

I know this may not be helpful but can i just ask if there are any plans to do a similar thing with albums (it seems a bit odd to have 10 000 songs and keep the 3 000 albums) and also if the bubbling under section will stay or if the expansion will remove the need for that (again it may be odd to have albums bubbling under but no songs)?

I'm planning to increase the albums list eventually. Maybe not to 10,000, but at least to 5,000.

There will still always be bubbling unders for both albums and songs. When these almost 3,000 songs have been added there will be around 12,000 songs on AM in total.

A few things I noticed:

Donovan's "Hey Gyp" should be listed by its complete title, "Hey Gyp (Dig the Slowness)".
Radiohead's "House of Cards" was released as a single (in 2008).
U2's "Please" was released as a single (1997).
The White Stripes' "Jolene" was originally released as a B-side in 2000 (studio version), but was not released as an A-side single until 2004 (live version).
The Beatles' "When I'm 64" should be written out as "When I'm Sixty-Four", as per the spelling on the album sleeve.

Sorry for the holdup. Here's F-G. I didn't realize until partway through that the singles column was for US and UK only. I thought it also counted released in the artist's home country. Also, the French title capitalization amy needle further double-checking...

Fantastic job, everyone!

After all, I think there's a good chance that these songs can be included in the coming update! But before I can match these songs against the songs that are already on AM, I need this info complete to determine which critics' lists the songs were eligible for. So it would be really really great if L-U also could be done within a week or two.

The Spotify links for these songs aren't quite as urgent. They can be added as the last step in the process.

Here's J-K! One song here ("Happy House" by The Juan MacLean) is already on AM. I sincerely hope there aren't any more cases of this...

Henrik, should I work on the EOY spreadsheets now? Or is this more urgent?

Just making sure: if the main artist is male and the featured artist is female, and only the featured artist does vocals, do I put "yes" for the female-fronted column?

Sorry for the delay of this, but here is a spreadsheet of more than 3000 songs this time! I have copied country/state info from another spreadsheet for artists already on AM. The other columns need complete coverage.
