Can I just correct the name of the band "The Divine Comedy". I know, with all the faults I make in english, it's exagerate..but, the name changes between a funny one (what is this thing, a comedy about Cousteau?) to a poem about inferno. ;)

The Byrds - Everybody's Been Burned
vs.
Mojave 3 - In Love with a View

Excellent Mojave track, loving it more with each listen

Animal Collective - Banshee Beat
vs.
Mac DeMarco - Blue Boy

Not impressed with Mac de Marco.

Vince Guaraldi - Linus and Lucy
vs.
DJ Shadow - Blood on the Motorway

Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye
vs.
The Divine Comedy - Something for the Weekend

Toughest matchup of all - my listening history makes me vie for the Divine Comedy, great song, one that actually has a story to it. I listened to Silversun Pickups before, but they blew me away with "Lazy Eye", so Neil Hannon has to make way.

Radiohead - You and Whose Army?
vs.
Babes in Toyland - Bluebell

Very average Radiohead song.

Dusty Springfield - The Windmills of Your Mind
vs.
Yes - Starship Trooper

Not a big fan of prog-rock, but the guitar-led end of the track is awesome. So Yes it is.

Christopher Cross - Sailing
vs.
Eurythmics - Love is a Stranger

By default, easy win for Eurythmics. Not sure they'll go beyond the next stage, weak track for me.

Green Day - Holiday
vs.
Ann Peebles - I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down

Easy choice for this Green Day fan.

5 The Byrds - Everybody's Been Burned
vs.
4 Mojave 3 - In Love with a View
The Byrds track represented one of the band's understated strengths - making truly dark, psychedelic music. However, I have a personal weakness for pedal steel guitar and even besides that, the Mojave 3 track perfectly captures a mood. Strong matchup.

15 Animal Collective - Banshee Beat
vs.
13 Mac DeMarco - Blue Boy
I feel like these two songs are siblings in that the kid's from my hall freshman year who wore tie-dye shirts probably loved both of them. Mac DeMarco isn't the best singer, but his song goes more places in two minutes than the Animal Collective song does in eight.

14 Vince Guaraldi - Linus and Lucy
vs.
1 DJ Shadow - Blood on the Motorway
Had "Christmas Time Is Here" been the Charlie Brown Christmas track in competition, I may have had a much trickier decision. But here, it's no contest. "Blood on the Motorway" is the strongest track on Shadow's deeply-underrated follow-up to ...Endtroducing, and it would take home any match-up this week easily.

9 Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye
vs.
16 The Divine Comedy - Something for the Weekend
Neither were too much to my tastes, but the Pickups' singer's commitment bought them the win over the Divine Comedy's wackiness.

10 Radiohead - You and Whose Army?
vs.
6 Babes in Toyland - Bluebell
Radiohead falls, in this track, into what I think is the real fault with a lot of their post The Bends work, in that it feels emotionally muted. As opposed to "Bluebell", a song gushing with raw emotion from beginning to end.

2 Dusty Springfield - The Windmills of Your Mind
vs.
3 Yes - Starship Trooper
I remember first getting to this website and certain high acclaim albums that I got into then that have since fallen out of my listening habits, like What's Going On or Dusty in Memphis. And I suddenly ask why I ever stopped listening to the latter. And as fun as the Yes track is, Dusty takes it. Or at least, that's what I said a few minutes into it. But damn, what a journey. Maybe this is redemption after I voted down the other Yes song in this tourney. Hmm. But as I hear Dusty's song again, I again wonder. Ahh. She gets it. So evocative.

11 Christopher Cross - Sailing
vs.
7 Eurythmics - Love is a Stranger
For every boring decision Christopher Cross made, Eurythmics made an interesting one. Also, does this song at all seem like a blueprint for "I Can Change" by LCD Soundsystem to anyone else?

8 Green Day - Holiday
vs.
12 Ann Peebles - I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down
A little strange that we have two adjacent tracks from the same album in the tournament, but oh well. And while "Holiday" is no "Jesus of Suburbia", the Ann Peebles song is definitely not an "Emmylou". Green Day takes this one.

Bit of an odd week for me. A lot more tracks I dislike than previously, including the two weakest songs yet. Also, it seems like all the bad or mediocre songs are matched against each other, with the stand-outs (and there are still quite a few of them) having to take another worthwhile song out.

3. The Byrds - Everybody's Been Burned
vs.
9. Mojave 3 - In Love with a View

There is something similar between those two, but The Byrds capture a certain darkness that is not just present in their lyrics, but as much in their music.

16. Animal Collective - Banshee Beat
vs.
12. Mac DeMarco - Blue Boy

Animal Collective, one of my least favorite music acts ever. As per usual, annoying sound effects are used to "disguise" rather uninspired music and a long length is used to impress. I'm a bit disappointed by Mac DeMarco (an artist who has been recommended to me dozens of times, but I never got around to him before), but it is a solid effort.

4. Vince Guaraldi - Linus and Lucy
vs.
2. DJ Shadow - Blood on the Motorway

Well, the Guaraldi track is a lot of fun. Great energy there. Funny that it is a Peanuts-track (Peanuts never broke through around these parts). Yet DJ Shadow has more ideas in this single song than most of all this weeks songs combined.

13. Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye
vs.
11. The Diving Comedy - Something for the Weekend

These two just don't stand out to me. They are both energetic, and well-executed, but I can't shake the feeling that I have heard all this before and better. Fun wins out in this match-up.

10. Radiohead - You and Whose Army?
vs.
5. Babes in Toyland - Bluebell

I have You and Whose Army? as the predicted winner of this whole game, if only because I don't dare to bet against Radiohead on this forum. But it is not one of their standouts if you ask me (though still pretty good) and I have a hard time resisting riot grrrl!

1. Dusty Springfield - The Windmills of Your Mind
vs.
6. Yes - Starship Trooper

Damn, when Dusty hits she can really deliver works of magnificent beauty. I really like Starship Trooper, but al Yes' ambition can't destroy the windmill.

15. Christopher Cross - Sailing
vs.
14. Eurythmics - Love is a Stranger

Through comments here and in the artist poll I understand that Christopher Cross is someone I should be familiar with (perhaps negatively). I never heard of him before and for the best, because this is not at all my taste in music. Love is a Stranger neither, actually, though I do like a Eurythmics song every once in a while.

7. Green Day - Holiday
vs.
8. Ann Peebles - I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down
Holiday is no Jesus of Suburbia no, but still a very good rocker from a great album. I like Ann Peebles too; she has one of the more unique R&B voices. I'm just too devoted to American Idiot to vote for her here, though I Can't Stand the Rain would have blown it away regardless.

This is the strangest group of the poll so far for me. I was only familiar with a handful of songs prior to listening, and only "Starship Trooper" is in my all-time songs list.

The Byrds - Everybody's Been Burned
vs.
Mojave 3 - In Love with a View

Animal Collective - Banshee Beat
vs.
Mac DeMarco - Blue Boy

Vince Guaraldi - Linus and Lucy
vs.
DJ Shadow - Blood on the Motorway

Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye
vs.
The Divine Comedy - Something for the Weekend

Radiohead - You and Whose Army?
vs.
Babes in Toyland - Bluebell

Dusty Springfield - The Windmills of Your Mind
vs.
Yes - Starship Trooper

Christopher Cross - Sailing
vs.
Eurythmics - Love is a Stranger

Green Day - Holiday
vs.
Ann Peebles - I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down

As someone suggested when the bracket was first released, Vince Guaraldi vs. DJ Shadow was quite a matchup. It's hard to rank "Linus and Lucy," as I've known the tune since I was probably 5, but never heard it out of context.

The Byrds - Everybody's Been Burned vs. [/s]Mojave 3 - In Love with a Beat[/s]
These are interchangeable. I just went with the band I knew best.

Animal Collective - Banshee Beat vs. Mac DeMarco - Blue Boy
Well, Animal Collective gains a few points for not living up to the title, but I started getting fed up with the song two minutes in.

Vince Guaraldi - Linus and Lucy vs. DJ Shadow - Blood on the Motorway
Confession time: I pretty much find everything about Charlie Brown and his Peanuts gang a tad bit annoying. I do like "Linus and Lucy" somewhat, but DJ Shadow has a great song with "Blood on the Motorway".

Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye vs. The Divine Comedy - Something for the Weekend
I pretty much voted for The Divine Comedy based on the "Like a Virgin" spoof.

Radiohead - You and Whose Army? vs. Babes in Toyland - Bluebell
I think we've all pretty much agreed on which songs should belong amongst Radiohead's canon. "You and Whose Army?" is not one of those songs.

Dusty Springfield - The Windmills of Your Mind vs. Yes - Starship Troopers
Yes really never had a chance here. "The Windmills of Your Mind" is actually my favorite song of all time.

Christopher Cross - Sailing vs. Eurythmics - Love Is a Stranger
I wonder how "Sailing" ever won three Grammys...

Green Day - Holiday vs. Ann Peebles - I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down
No contest here.
