Below is the Top 100 list in 2013, I've indicated those artists who are now out of the Top 100 (17 in all):
1| The Beatles 2| Bob Dylan 3| The Rolling Stones 4| Radiohead 5| David Bowie 6| Prince 7| Bruce Springsteen 8| Stevie Wonder 9| The Beach Boys 10| Pink Floyd 11| Led Zeppelin 12| The Velvet Underground 13| R.E.M. 14| The Who 15| Jimi Hendrix 16| The Clash 17| Neil Young 18| The Smiths 19| Nirvana 20| Elvis Presley 21| Tom Waits 22| U2 23| Marvin Gaye 24| Arcade Fire 25| Björk 26| The Cure 27| Miles Davis 28| Bob Marley 29| Pixies 30| The Kinks 31| Kanye West 32| James Brown 33| Creedence Clearwater Revival 34| Elvis Costello 35| Johnny Cash 36| John Coltrane 37| Michael Jackson 38| Kraftwerk 39| PJ Harvey 40| Leonard Cohen 41| Simon & Garfunkel 42| Madonna 43| Talking Heads 44| Beastie Boys 45| Joy Division 46| Public Enemy (OUT)47| Chuck Berry 48| Van Morrison 49| OutKast 50| The White Stripes 51| Ray Charles 52| The Doors 53| Portishead 54| Queen 55| Joni Mitchell (OUT) 56| Sly and the Family Stone 57| Sufjan Stevens 58| Nick Cave (OUT)59| Little Richard (OUT)60| Otis Redding 61| Sonic Youth 62| John Lennon (OUT)63| The Stooges 64| Nick Drake 65| Black Sabbath 66| Aretha Franklin (OUT)67| Ramones 68| Fleetwood Mac (OUT)69| Curtis Mayfield/The Impressions (OUT)70| Charles Mingus 71| Elton John 72| The National 73| Brian Eno 74| LCD Soundsystem (OUT)75| Massive Attack 76| Kate Bush 77| Oasis (OUT)78| Hank Williams (OUT)79| The Temptations 80| Beck 81| Steely Dan 82| Jacques Brel 83| Wilco 84| New Order (OUT)85| Parliament/Funkadelic 86| My Bloody Valentine (OUT)87| Buddy Holly 88| Lou Reed 89| Depeche Mode 90| Blur 91| Pavement 92| Elliott Smith 93| Daft Punk 94| Nina Simone (OUT)95| Al Green (OUT)96| TV on the Radio (OUT)97| The Flaming Lips 98| Billie Holiday (OUT)99| Paul McCartney 100| Belle & Sebastian

It's guessing game time, assuming the remaining artists will be back, I've come up with a list of 17 artists who will be Top 100 newcomers based on the results so far:
1. Justin Beiber
2. Katy Perry
3. Selena Gomez
4. Ariana Grande
5. Ed Sheeran
6. One Direction
7. Miley Cyrus
8. Twenty One Pilots
9. Iggy Azalea
10. Skrillex and Diplo/Jack U
11. Limp Bizkit
12. Ke$ha
15. 5 Seconds of Summer
14. Joe Jonas
15. John Mayer
16. Calvin Harris
17. Tom Hiddleston

In the alternative, in my ideal world, the new entries or re-entries in the top 100 might be the following:
1. Alabama Shakes
2. Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3. Red Hot Chili Peppers
4. The Specials
5. Vampire Weekend
6. Sigur Ros
7. Green Day
8. Kendrick Lamar
9. Serge Gainsbourg
10. Frank Sinatra
11. Paul Simon
12. The Police
13. Gorillaz
14. Guns N' Roses
15. Coldplay
16. Pearl Jam
17. Smashing Pumpkins

Alabama Shakes would be a surprise, considering how they only have a few albums and only just recently made our EOY. They seem fairly recent for a poll like this.

The rest all seem plausible, ranging from pleasant surprises to satisfying reentries.

Yo Dexter, John Mayer was already in the list XD. And I would argue he's a level above the others.

I actually had a hard time coming up with the last entry, it was either them or Mumford and Sons in my mind, and I like the former more and considering that the forumers aren't too keen on hip-hop acts Dr. Dre, N.W.A. or Missy Elliott's inclusion in the Top 100 is hard to imagine.

Nice job there Godot! I agree. He's just there due to the Tay-Tay connection. He plays the guitar well and, in some instances, is a good composer.

It's morning in Europe, and it's time to discover how my top 100 was metabolized into the greater whole, and man, it hurts...

Acts gone in the range 500-201:

Jefferson Airplane
The United States of America
M83
Underworld
Television
Talk Talk
Ride
Siouxsie and the Banshees
Peter Gabriel
Alain Bashung
Prefab Sprout
A Tribe Called Quest
Pet Shop Boys

All of these naturally hurt, but especially M83 and A Tribe Called Quest, whom I thought would have better chances. All these acts are naturally recommended.

Acts gone in the range 200-101:

Sun Ra
Primal Scream
Animal Collective
Tim Buckley
The Knife
Mercury Rev
The Stone Roses
Beyoncé
M.I.A.
Patti Smith
XTC
Grimes
Duke Ellington
Nine Inch Nails
Aphex Twin
Can
Jeff Buckley
Blondie
Fela Kuti
Cocteau Twins
Eminem
Frank Zappa/The Mothers of Invention
Parliament/Funkadelic
The Flaming Lips
Massive Attack
Sly and the Family Stone

26 more, for a whoppin' (and painful) 39 in total. Wow. Jimmy, it goes without saying that I'm regretting a lot that you didn't choose to do a Top 200 instead of a Top 100 :D

Dexter, George Harrison is listed twice in your summary.

I was disappointed with Dangerous Woman personally. I was hyped up by the lead singles (not looking for a masterpiece of songwriting but great pop production, of course) but in the end the rest of the album kinda felt too formulaic for me. To me, Grande is an artist with great potential but she has yet to fully fulfill it.

Ariana Grande drives me crazy and it is only on a level a choir singer would understand. I know for a fact Ariana's range is mezzo-soprano. But they are trying to force her little kitty cat voice into songs clearly out of her range!

Not everyone will be bothered by this, but I just felt like throwing that out there.

Wow... It's basically how much I hate Celine Dion. Every time that chick sings, it sounds like a rod is piercing her lungs.

The bolded artists would have made a list if compiled by my fifteen year old self. I also respect Taylor Swift and Britney Spears as artists with legitimate talent who work hard in a niche to which they can appeal.

I am not angry or disappointed any of these made the list. My "for shame!" was sarcastic. They were just surprises. If anything, I admire these people for their honesty and not caving to peer pressure of the forum tastes.

Corrected it just now. Instead of inserting Santana behind George Harrison, as pointed out by Godot, I instead typed the latter twice :angry-banghead: Thanks, Pierre!

And guys, I have nothing but respect for all the artists (and their fans) on the list, if my previous posts appear trollish or inflammatory then I apologize. Know that I once knew all the words in Hybrid Theory.

Just looking at the official AM charts, I'm pretty sure 76 of the top 100 remain, so assuming all made it at least to the top 500, we have 24 spots remaining. From 101-200, I tried to predict 21/24 of the fill-ins.
103 Depeche Mode
105 Guns N Roses
108 Vampire Weekend
109 Nick Drake
115 Smashing Pumpkins
116 Coldplay
122 Paul Simon
126 The National
134 Elliott Smith
153 Serge Gainsbourg
154 Yeah Yeah Yeahs
156 Belle and Sebastian
157 Red Hot Chili Peppers
160 Green Day
161 Dr. Dre
164 Sufjan Stevens
166 Billie Holiday
178 Sigur Ros
188 Gorillaz
196 King Crimson
200 ABBA

For the remaining 3, I know from the previous poll that Jacques Brel and Nina Simone are in. The last pick is probably Kendrick Lamar. Hopefully I didn't miss anyone else from the previous poll.

This to me is way more thrilling than the actual placing.:)

Thanks Jimmy & Dexter

2 added in Dexter's revised list but only one act dropped out. Maybe issue with Jimmy's original list where there are 2 @ 378= then jumps to 381. Was there meant to be a 3rd at 378? Maybe this was discussed already and just missed it.

Also nothing wrong with Tay Tay.

I don't really mind, but some people don't like spoilers so we usually avoid prédictions in the main trend (though you could create another trend specifically for that).

Plus I don't know who you are missing, but I don't expect the YYY and Dre in the final top 100 (though not seeing them in the top 500 is a big surprise too). I wouldn't have bet on King Crimson and ABBA but those are really unlikely not to be in the top 500 so...

Happy to see Built to Spill at 150 and the Smashing Pumpkins making it back to the top 100.
Glad to see Eric Clapton out of the top 100 (and to a lesser extent McCartney) because those were the acts I expected to get a push with more voters.
Otis Redding's rank is very disappointing and surprising. Disappointed by how the Wu-Tang, who was steadily around 100 in the previous polls fell to #163, and that Sleater-Kinney fell short from the top 200.

I also noticed that there were 2 artists in #378 and then it jumped to #381 when I renumbered JimmyJazz's original list. Yeah, its either he numbered it wrong or he skipped an artist (King Crimson or ABBA maybe?), we'll have to wait for JimmyJazz's answer.

There are more world music / non-Anglophone artists in the 101-500 section than I thought there would be. :romance-kisscheek: And yes, it's funny to see so many mainstream acts on the list that are normally lampooned on the forum.

What I'm most disappointed about so far is that Charles Mingus dropped out of the top 100 (he is #9 on my list). But I'm delighted that Jacques Brel, Nina Simone and ABBA will all be in the top 100!

Thanks, JimmyJazz.

I'm feeling bad now because, after recent discussions on the forum, there are a few acts I really should've voted for. A Tribe Called Quest has shot up my newly modified artist list, and listening to a few more Sleater-Kinney albums has helped them greatly. I also listened to some classic EPs which boosted artists like My Bloody Valentine, and there were a few artists on the border I shouldn't have let drop out, such as Gorillaz and Yeah Yeah Yeahs...it's hard to reduce my tastes to only 100 bands.

I also 'discovered' Rufus Wainwright yesterday (I've only heard a song or two before this point), and I feel like he'll be a likely entrant in my top 100. I guess there's always...three years from now.

It's good to see that some "mainstream" artists are doing better than usually in lists. Music shouldn't be pidgeonholed into categories like "mainstream" and "alternative". Those are just labels attached by the media, they say nothing about the musical quality.

Speaking as a person who once had a job that had me spending 30 hours a week in CVSes and supermarkets, I have a personal axe to grind with John Mayer. I consider him an implement of torture.

A lot of these surprise acts are the kind of acts I would have voted for when I was 15, back before I knew there existed music before Nirvana.

I wonder which of my top 25 will be the first to fall...

I need to make sure to count how many acts have been in each polls top 100; it looks like a few will be at risk next time.

Personally, the peeling of my top 25 has long started. There's a little less than a dozen acts that I'm impatiently waiting to discover the ranks of :D (mostly Bowie and Prince, Sonic Youth, Nick Cave, Blur, Gorillaz, the VU, LCD Soundsystem and a few more).

Am I the only one who doesn't see Gainsbourg's picture?

I feel so smug knowing that Serge Gainsbourg (whose picture I can't see) prevented Aerosmith from a Top 100 placing.

With Neil saying he can't see Lennon either, I'm wondering if it is simply people browsers...? For example, I can't see many of the pictures for the previous artist polls that are archived. I will fix Serge's pic, but in the end if that still doesn't help it might be people's own Internet problems unfortunately.

I've done a thing. When I tried to force my browser to display Gainsbourg's picture, it told me that viewing it was "not allowed on this server"... Then I copy-pasted the link in another tab, and I then could view the picture. When I came back to this thread, now Gainsbourg's picture was displayed! Weird.

Since Neil is apparently the only one who can't see Lennon's picture, I'd bet on an issue on his end. Otherwise, I don't know what's happening with Gainsbourg's picture. Perhaps it's the file name for him that is too long or featuring unusual characters?

I couldn't see Serge either. So I clicked "open in new tab" for the image, and it said I couldn't see it on the server. Then I just refreshed the image page, and I could see it. Then I went back to this thread and I could see it here as well.

One thing I do is upload all the pictures to imgur; a lot of websites don't allow hotlinking. This also allows you to take larger images and condense them down to a uniform size.

450| Courtney Barnett
One Vote! :o

I only had a list of 50, so I don't expect there to be much overlap within the Top 100.

My (Mostly Female) Drop Outs

5. Goldfrapp (357)
6. Joanna Newsom (103)
9. St. Vincent (197)
12. Courtney Barnett (450)
15. Florence + The Machine (347)
16. M.I.A. (155)
19. Julia Holter (176)
20. Kills, The (366)
22. Lana Del Rey (113)
26. Janelle Monae (164)
31. Arctic Monkeys (118)
32. B52s, The (349)
37. Bat For Lashes (472)
39. Hot Chip (322)
44. Grizzly Bear (350)
45. Franz Ferdinand (415)
50. Avalances, The (351) If I had to submit this list now, they would have been much higher.

My Bands I highly doubt will reach the Top 100

17. Grates, The
24. Peaches
25. Villagers
28. Santigold
33. Damian Jurado
40. John Grant
41. Jack White
42. Scissor Sisters
43. Metronomy
46. Flight Of The Conchords
47. Little Dragon

Can we expect Coldplay in the Top 100? I think so.

R&B is getting shlacked. Otis Redding and Sly dropped over 50 spots, and now Ray Charles is the next casualty, losing 40 places himself.
