Overlooked Songs (It's Personal): Nomination phase
Overlooked Songs (It's Personal): Nomination phase
The idea here is to cover acclaimed songs that aren't in the top 1000 and aren't commonly discussed here on the forum. See the rules below.
1. You can nominate one song every 24 hours; since some people have difficulty tracking time, I'm going to count this as one sleep cycle. Feel free to vote if you've had a full night's sleep since the last time you voted.
2. There are four sections being represented, with exactly 32 entrants each (128 overall):
1001-2000
2001-3500
3501-5872
bubblers, unranked songs on albums ranked below #500, and unranked singles from top 500 albums
3. When you nominate, also list the song's rank. Seeding will be determined based on AM rank, and each section will close after the 32nd song has been nominated. You can nominate in any section until that section fills up.
4. Two sets of songs are ineligible for this project:
songs that placed in our recent all-time poll (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2776&start=250#p40928)
(since Party Hard was included by accident, it is allowed)
songs in the 5873-6000 range (to avoid competing polls; will be allowed if we do this a second time)

Any song on albums from the top 500-3000, as long as they don't appear in the top 1000 songs ?

From an AM top 500 album, so it's not eligible. These rules are a tad complicated.babydoll wrote:Dusty Springfield - The Windmills of Your Mind (unranked on AM list; #1 on personal all-time list)

Re: It's Personal: Nomination phase
Hm. Let's try to clear this up:
1. every song from 1001-5872 is eligible, except for those that appeared on our recent song list
2. same as above for the bubblers
3. every song off an album ranked below #500 (as long as that album is ranked or bubbling) is eligible, unless that song is in the top 1000 or appeared on our recent song list
4. every ranked song and single from albums ranked in the top 500 are eligible, unless that song is in the top 1000 or appeared on our own recent song list
So, the only complicated part is the fourth section, at least.
To break down the reasons:
1. No songs from the top 1000 for the same reason Moderately Acclaimed excludes albums from the top 500 (these should all be 'moderately acclaimed' songs in this tournament)
2. No songs from our own top 1000 because this should be focusing on stuff that even we overlook
3. Rule #2 and #3 above exist to fill in the gaps between this and unacclaimed; songs that aren't eligible for unacclaimed while also not appearing in our top 1000
4. Rule #4 above exists to fill the final hole, which is the fact that 'Best of the B-Sides' only allows songs that were not released as singles; this way unacclaimed singles can still get a mention
A simple way to think of it:
Is this song in the acclaimed music top 1000? It is ineligible
Is this song in the AMF top 1000? It is ineligible
Would this song qualify for Unacclaimed? It is ineligible
Would this song qualify for Best of the B-Sides? It is ineligible if that album is in the top 500
Everything else in these ranges should be eligible

Okay, I'm sorry if I'm getting everything all wrong, Bleu, but since I now think my choice is now ineligible, I'll go with Eurythmics - Love Is a Stranger which is criminally unranked. (Seriously, watch the video, guys. It's beyond brilliant.)
EDIT: It is eligible! Yay! P.S. I hope you will accept as I did sleep between my last nomination and now. Please accept this choice. I'll skip tomorrow if you'd prefer that.
