BBC Radio Devon - Devon's Top 50 Albums (2004)

Post by Quirk Out Lee » Fri May 06, 2016 12:25 pm

Is this proof that Devonians and Radio 2 are the same thing?

Anyway, this was a BBC Radio Devon poll from April 2004 that asked the folk (folk, get it?) of Devon to name their all time favourite albums for a top 50 poll. This was that poll.

Show of Hands' Country Life at no. 22 is a great touch that, if the poll was done again today, would no doubt be replaced by The Long Way Home. Even though Live at the Royal Albert Hall is their best album, still.

Other than that a bad list imo. Swing When You're Winning? [hey I actually have that, but I don't remember it well.]

Where are the Radiohead, Kanye West and Velvet Underground albums?

Lack of Radiohead perhaps a bit suspicious (considering we have Automatic for the People), Velvet Underground also, but not Kanye, whose first album was only two months old at the time (not that that stopped the six month old Country Life from getting to #22, but there's no hip hop in this list at all.) Almost all the later era albums in this list bar CL are on the wrong side of the thin line of mondeo pop. Imo.
