Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) vs. Robyn - Body Talk

Body talk is a massively boring, fairly stereotypical electro pop album. Anniemal was much better.

The Go! Team - Thunder, Lightning, Strike vs. The Cure - Faith

Not the best Cure album. The Go team wins easily.

Gal Costa - Gal Costa vs. Lisa Germano - Geek the Girl

Geek the Girl is a straight up masterpiece. It's probably my favorite album in the game. Gal Costa is interesting at best, but it doesn't engage as much as it should.

Robyn 81-79
The Cure 85-85
Lisa Germano 95-86

Only non-Spotify this week is Limbo.

For the second matchup my feeling about both albums are so close I just went with a last minute instinct.

Robyn - Body Talk
It seems like sacrilege to vote against Brian Eno here. I can think of at least 5 of his albums that would've easily won this matchup for me. However, I prefer the more ambient Eno; and Robyn, like Annie, is electropop at its best. (I don't know if the same person nominated both Annie and Robyn. But, if so, you really have good taste in electropop!)

The Cure - Faith
Another example of "Why did these albums have to come up against each other in the first round?" (My top two albums of the week, in fact.) The Go! Team is tremendous fun; but this is The Cure. And, for me, gloom beats fun 90% of the time (musically anyway).

Lisa Germano - Geek the Girl
I had never heard this album before. I do really like Gal Costa, but see above...

Throwing Muses - Limbo
Probably my two least favorite albums of the week (though I don't dislike either by any stretch).

Sorry, Brad, I guess I haven't been too interested in listening to a lot of albums as of late. I feel bad for not being able to vote for more matchups this week. I did listen to Gal Costa which I adored.

1. Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) vs. Robyn - Body Talk
The two best songs on Body Talk, Dancing on My Own and Call Your Girlfriend, would have propelled the album unto the next round in almost every other instance but this. Brian Eno's album is just too much of a favorite.

Did my previous comment about Scandinavian, female-fronted electropop being the best thing ever not tip you off?

1. Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy) (3.5/5) vs. Robyn - Body Talk (unrated)
Not a huge fan a this Eno album, I am much more into his ambient stuff - but there are interesting songs in it, no doubt. The electro-pop Robyn is poor at best
2. The Go! Team - Thunder, Lightning, Strike (3.5/5) vs. The Cure - Faith (4.5/5)
What a contrast between these two. The jaunty TLS is a breath of fresh air - but I prefer the classic damp and dark atmosphere of Faith - a landmark album for me.
3. Gal Costa - Gal Costa (unrated) vs. Lisa Germano - Geek the Girl (4.5/5)
Cannot stand Gal Costa - the shrieking and wailing got the better of me. On the other side, Lisa Germano's Geek The Girl has always been a huge favorite of mine - her voice is simply sublime.
4. The Rolling Stones - Metamorphosis (unrated) vs. Throwing Muses - Limbo (5/5) - pretty average collection of outtakes from Mick & co (i didn't know compilations were allowed in this competition ?) vs one of my favorite bands ever, with an album that challenged "The Real Ramona" position as the best Muses album. No competition, I'm afraid.

Likely the toughest decision since the last The Cure matchup. They win in spite of The Go! Team's super fun debut.

They're not; "Metamorphosis" is not a compilation per se, it's a collection of previously unreleased tracks.

Euuuuh, Brad, I think you counted wrong ?
Fourth Match is a Throwing Muses win 7 to 6, and the third one is a Lisa Germano win too... 7-6 unless I have to work on my arithmetic...
