AMF Chart Week 18 2016
AMF Chart Week 18 2016
Welcome to Week 18 of the AMF Chart! The chart we're trying to keep our faith, but Kanye is looking for more.
Here are your rankings for Week 17 (number of weeks on the chart so far in parentheses):
1. Grimes feat. Janelle Monáe - "Venus Fly" (3)
2. PJ Harvey - "The Community of Hope" (7)

19. Charles Bradley - "Slow Love" (1)
19. dvsn - "The Line" (1)
Total Votes: 117
The top 10 songs from last week's Chart went through to this week's. Kanye West narrowly misses his first entry into the Hall of Fame with perhaps the best song from his new album. This Chart has never been very friendly to hip hop, though I'm still fairly surprised he wasn't able to make the leap. Definitely not the first time that songs have narrowly missed the 10 week mark, however - all part of the game.
2016 Chart-Toppers by Week (by vote count, not chart position; total weeks atop chart in parentheses):
1. David Bowie - "Blackstar" (2)
2. David Bowie - "Blackstar" (3)

4. David Bowie - "Blackstar" (5)
5. PJ Harvey - "The Wheel"

7. PJ Harvey - "The Wheel" (3)
8. David Bowie - "Lazarus"
9. David Bowie - "Lazarus" (2)
10. PJ Harvey - "The Wheel" (4)
11. David Bowie - "Lazarus" (3)
12. PJ Harvey - "The Wheel" (5)
13. PJ Harvey - "The Wheel" (6)
14. M83 - "Do It, Try It"

16. Courtney Barnett - "Three Packs a Day"

Beyoncé feat. Kendrick Lamar - "Freedom" (streaming on Tidal)
Prince - "Screwdriver"

Thank you all for voting and nominating continuously every week! Please don't be afraid to supply us with nominations - all songs six months old and younger (or who have received promotion via album/video/single in the last six months) are accepted! And seconding nominations by others gives those songs a better chance at making the next poll!
As per usual, the next poll will be created as close to Sunday at 19:00 UTC as I can make it. Best of voting!

Re: AMF Chart Week 18 2016
Couple notes - I think Anderson .Paak has broken a record for nominations in a single year, this now being his fifth since January. And yet still no Hall of Fame entries. We'll have to wait and see if this one pays off.
On the other hand, I don't believe this is the first time two songs of the same name have been in the nomination pool simultaneously. I don't recall what the previous instance was, but I'm also too lazy to go back and search for it right now
More importantly, however, if anyone can please find me a streaming link to Kashiwa Daisuke's "Crystal Valley," it would be greatly appreciated!

Sorry, Setherex, it must have gotten taken down from YouTube! I didn't realize this.
Re: AMF Chart Week 18 2016
It's cool! Fortunately, it isn't a requirement of the Chart for the songs to actually be listenable, haha. Just makes it more unlikely to receive votes, I suppose.babydoll wrote:Sorry, Setherex, it must have gotten taken down from YouTube! I didn't realize this.
But then again, this Forum does seem to have a very high affinity for Daisuke. Where there's a will, they might be a way.

Shearwater - 'A Long Time Away' ... thrilling and chilling at the same time! ... and oh man that last minute build-up (headphones mandatory).

Re: AMF Chart Week 18 2016
There is something about Massive Attack's song that absolutes fascinates me, in a creepy kind of way. It reaches their best moments with Tricky.
Underwhelmed by Beyonce, but I do think she gets better with age.
I am shocked by the weak showing from Tegan & Sara - they had such a strong debut, but this song is a poor, poor comparison. Somuchso that I actually voted for its big sister, Grimes - which is a first.
Yeasayer's song is growing on me by the week.
Nice discoveries for this week - King Gizard and the Lizard Wizard (what a name )
Nominations for next week
Andrew Bird - Roma Fade (much better than the first nominated a couple of weeks ago)
and if room allows - Beach Baby - Limousine

A repeat nomination from a few weeks ago. May re-enter the Chart with at least two supporting nominations!bonnielaurel wrote:Ariana Grande - Dangerous Woman

Can we skip the formalities and just nominate "Burn the Witch" to the Hall of Fame, please?

If I "most certainly" second that, does it count for two "secondings" ?
Wait, is that an actual nomination ??

I should have seconded this earlier but I've had it on repeat since I got home.spiritualized wrote:Setherex wrote:Can we skip the formalities and just nominate "Burn the Witch" to the Hall of Fame, please?

If it still needs a proper nomination, I nominate it.

Re: AMF Chart Week 18 2016
I'd like to throw in a nomination for "Happy" by Mitski, a much weirder track than her previous single.

Someone has to nominate "Burn the Witch".
It may as well be me.

Just want to thank the people who nominated "Oh, To Be A Defector" and "Boyfriend". Two fantastic songs that have been all in my ears for the last few days.
They just released a video, and I'm seeing them later in the week, I nominate Tacocat - "Talk"

Re: AMF Chart Week 18 2016
A pleasure, Maschine_Man, I nominated Chorusgirl.
Although I wont't take any credit, it is just the catchiest song of all the eligible songs in my "discoveries" of the week from Spotify. I listen to these every Monday religiously and sometimes little gems like "Oh, to be a defector" makes onto my list.
This is how I discovered "Dusseldorf" from Teleman and the Salad Boys...great jangle pop.

I'd like to nominate James Blake's I Need a Forest Fire.
Re: AMF Chart Week 18 2016
I propose to nominate " Daydreaming " by Radiohead , in addition to " Burn the Witch"
Re: AMF Chart Week 18 2016
My weekly reminder to get your votes, nominations, and seconding nominations in before "Burn the Witch" beats them all tomorrow. My futile noms for the week:
Todd Slant - "Tsunami"
Mitski - "Happy"
Braids - "Companion"
