The only result I don't get yesterday is CCR over LCD Soundsystem. I never got CCR, they seem a little too center to me.

Re: UMT 2012: Round of 128 #7
Led Zeppelin- Not much to say here. I like Led Zeppelin enough and Louis Armstrong just isn't my thing.
John Coltrane- Kind of a tough choice here because if I were basing it off who's songs I listen to more I'd go Sabbath. But, My Favorite Things and A Love Supreme are two of my favorite jazz records so Coltrane gets the edge.
Metallica- Can't stand AC/DC so easy choice here.
Miles Davis- I don't mind Rage and I am not a fan of Miles Davis in the 60's and beyond but his stuff in the 50's/early 60's is enough to get him past this round.
Bob Marley- He's good but he's not the best reggae has to offer. That's not a knock on him though and Green Day is kind of bland.
Steely Dan- Tough choice here. Frank Sinatra is a guy who could soar even when given cheesy production (see all of his Christmas albums) while Steely Dan was kind of a cheesy band who's studio production made them legendary. Neither are lacking for musical chops. I'll go Steely Dan.
Ramones- Two very similar career paths for these bands. Both had amazing debuts with albums afterward that were basically the same. Then lineups changed and everything went south. I'll take the Ramones.
Television- Probably the only band that I consider one of the best ever even though they only had one album that's worth listening to. It's a really good album.
John Coltrane- Kind of a tough choice here because if I were basing it off who's songs I listen to more I'd go Sabbath. But, My Favorite Things and A Love Supreme are two of my favorite jazz records so Coltrane gets the edge.

Led Zeppelin #67 vs. Louis Armstrong - that one hurt
John Coltrane vs. Black Sabbath #66
Metallica #44 vs. AC/DC #86
Miles Davis #99 vs. Rage Against The Machine - not that obvious to me
Bob Marley #5 vs. Green Day
Frank Sinatra #36 vs. Steely Dan #11 - I'm actually glad these two are meeting each other so that one of them get through to the next round.
Ramones vs. Van Halen - I need to pass on this one. Both a bit overrated but certainly not without some true gems.

Led Zeppelin yes, it hurts, but it would be a false vote to pick Satchmo
John Coltrane easy
AC/DC pretty easy, because their music is simple and I like it
Miles Davis sooo easy
Bob Marley ridiculously easy
Frank Sinatra it must have hurt, Greg
Ramones same as ACDC
The Clash more consistent

Pass (too close for me to call)
Metallica
Miles
Pass (Another impossible choice for me)
Steely Dan
Van Halen
The Clash
I wish we could stick Coltrane, Sabs, Marley, Green Day, or even AC/DC in the Sinatra/Steely Dan match.

Re: UMT 2012: Round of 128 #7
1) LED ZEPPELIN- Armstrong is victim to my lack of knowledge of his oeuvre for the most part. I do like jazz but it requires a lot more "focus" for me so it takes longer for me to digest someone's output. At the moment, most of my favoured Armstrong numbers are his vocal numbers.
2) BLACK SABBATH- See comments re:Armstrong
3) METALLICA- While I am getting more appreciation of AC/DC as I listen to more of their work, there is a tendency to "sameness" musically to my ears. There's no denying they've done some really great rock/metal but I'm more consistently wowed by Hetfield and company at this point.
4) PASS...I don't really know enough of either artists' work
5) BOB MARLEY- I'm still a reggae novice (probably a "Type A" to reference that review someone posted the other day...) but I know that I like a lot of Bob's stuff and Green Day is more hit and miss though I think AMERICAN IDIOT is pretty great.
6) Ouch. Really just ouch. I have box sets from both and adore both. In the end, I choose OL' BLUE EYES for several reasons: large number of songs I enjoy over a LONG stretch of time...from his days with Dorsey all the way up to "My Way", dramatic influence in terms of bringing a "looseness" to vocals during the Capitol/Nelson Riddle period, and just the wonder that is his voice. Sorry, Steely.....
7) THE RAMONES- So far, I tend to think Van Halen as a band is overrated though Eddie probably deserves every bit of his acclaim as a guitarist. While the case can be made that The Ramones are really just "noisy" bubblegum pop, what's so bad about a catchy tune you can hum?
8) THE CLASH- No contest...I like Television but it would be a far worse world if the Clash never existed than if Television never did
2) BLACK SABBATH- See comments re:Armstrong
