POLL: Timeframe for 2016 AMF Artist Poll?

Post by JimmyJazz »

I am going to leave this poll open for 5 days until Sunday. I have selected the three reasonable timeframes for this poll to my eyes. I am perfectly fine with just doing two months, but I also want to give timeframe for users who don't always visit and post the forum commonly, but are long-time and well-known as users. This needs to be at least 50 different users as far as I'm concerned, and this should aid in strengthening the overall results. After the poll results wrap up, I will officially open this thing at the beginning of April.

Although 2 months is in the lead so far, there does seem to be users who feel like they need more than that. I have been kicking around 3 months as being a good compromise as far as timeframes go, which would officially leave the results to be unveiled in July. I would like to hear those who voted for more than 2 months to explain their reasoning, mostly for others to see. As I said before I would like to get as many participants in this as possible, and I don't want a small window to be a strain for other potential voters.

I said 2 months because I pretty much have mine all wrapped up. But at the same time, it doesn't really matter because now it's done I can just post it whenever the poll is set up. 3 months sounds like a decent amount of time.

JimmyJazz, my reason for voting four months is entirely due to how busy I am right now (starting a new job, moving soon), combined with the fact that I'm still trying to merge all of my different ratings over the years into one common system. (The price I pay for never sticking with anything my entire life.) If the vast majority of forum members want the deadline to be in two months, I think "majority rules" would be a good way to go here. Whatever the deadline, I'll do my best to participate. I just don't want to throw together some ill-prepared list like I did last time. (I'm still embarrassed whenever I look at that thing.)

Without thinking about it much, I picked two months simply because I was already putting my list together a few months ago which means I'm basically prepared. Now that I see jamieW's post though, I think I would prefer three months. It would be a shame for anyone to feel left out because they don't have ample time right now.

Count me in, 3 months (April-June) as a timeframe sounds reasonable to me.

Bumping this again for the day. I am seriously starting to consider three months. I don't believe that would be a burden on anyone if they already have their ballots, unless they really are impatient about the results.

So, folks, this poll is done. As I stated before, though 2 months only has won with 14 votes, if one combines votes for a longer timeframe than that, such as 3-4 months, then we have 9 votes, clearly indicating that 2 months would be too small a window for plenty of users. I have decided that the 3 month timespan would be a good compromise, not too long but not too short either.

Any thoughts or objections to this? Keep in mind that I wish to get as many ballots as possible for this thing.

While I have voted for two months, three months wouldn't be lousy. It's also the timeline you want, and since you were gracious enough to host this, you can just pick three months.

The average chosen time is a little over 2.5 months if my math is correct, so I think three months could be a fair and just amount of time.

3 months definitely feels like the right amount based on these results.

I don't need 3 months for this, but some people have indicated that that they do need that amount of time. Considering how patient most forum members are, I don't think many people will smash guitars on the ground because they have to wait 3 months for the results.
