A lot of my favorite albums of the year had all their best songs released in 2015 (looking at you, "Blackstar" and "Moth"), so when it comes to my favorite 2016 songs, they're all from "TLOP"...

Ultralight Beam
Famous
Real Friends
No More Parties in L.A.

Just started my Songs of 2016 Spreadsheet! This is a rough look at songs that will have a good shot of appearing in my Top 1000 by the end of the year. Santigold leads the pack with a song that makes me feel so happy and bubbly each time I hear it. You know what, I too, am pretty major and I need to sing it out loud.

Santigold - Can't Get Enough of Myself
ANOHNI - 4 Degrees
PJ Harvey - The Wheel
Courtney Barnett - Three Packs a Day
Emma Pollock - Don't Make Me Wait
Santigold - Rendezvous Girl
ANOHNI - Drone Bomb Me
Rosie Lowe - Who's That Girl?
David Bowie - Girl Loves Me
Beyoncé - Formation
Rihanna - Desperado
General Elektriks - Angle Boogie
Gwen Stefani - Make Me Like You
David Bowie - Lazarus
Emma Pollock - Dark Skies
ANOHNI - Manta Ray (2015)
Rosie Lowe - Woman
The Kills - Doing It To Death
Rosie Lowe - Worry Bout Us
Daughter - No Care
Rihanna - Work
Santigold - Chasing Shadows
M83 - Do It, Try It
PJ Harvey - The Community Of Hope

(women are low key killing it this year)

First very small update, now with numbers. I think I'll stick to top 30 from now on for the rest of the year and keep the lower end a bit of a surprise. Bold are new entries with big movers getting their position jump in brackets. Also of note, first PC Music entrant of the year, LIZ.

1. Santigold ~ Can't Get Enough of Myself
2. ANOHNI ~ 4 Degrees
3. PJ Harvey ~ The Wheel
4. Courtney Barnett ~ Three Packs a Day
5. Beyoncé ~ Formation (+5)

So far I've heard 9 songs from this year that I like enough to include in my list...

Kanye West- Ultralight Beam
Kanye West- Famous
Kanye West- Real Friends
Kanye West- No More Parties in L.A.
PJ Harvey- The Wheel
PJ Harvey- The Community of Hope
Woods- Sun City Creeps
Weezer- L.A. Girlz
Anohni- Drone Bomb Me

...a lot of my favorite albums of the year ("Blackstar", "Moth", and "Grapefruit") suffer from the infamous "all their best songs were released the previous year" syndrome.

Favorite songs so far this year:

Anderson .Paak | Put Me Thru
Anderson .Paak | The Seasons/Carry Me (a 2015 cheat)
Ariana Grande | Dangerous Woman
David Bowie | Girl Loves Me
David Bowie | I Can't Give Everything Away
Esperanza Spalding | Good Lava
Kanye West featuring Kendrick Lamar | No More Parties in L.A.
Kendrick Lamar | Untitled No. 1
Kendrick Lamar | Untitled No. 7
KING | The Greatest (a 2015 cheat)

Triangulo de Amor Bizarro | Baila Sumeria

I still cannot believe anyone truly likes Ultralight Beam, easily one of his weakest songs in his discography.

20 \ Kendrick Lamar \ untitled 08 | 09.06.2014.

Going to trawl through this thread in an attempt to diversify it a bit.

"The Line" by dvsn was my #6 last year, but given its obscurity then and their album being released this year, I may be cheeky enough to include it again.

Here is a song from this year I really love that comes perhaps from left-field:
It's a cover of Trust in Me (The Python's Song) from Disney's The Jungle Book, now re-imagined from a creepy semi-pedophile track to a slow-burning, seductive song with Scarlett Johansson in the style of some Bond songs or perhaps something by Lana Del Rey. It fits really well if you ask me.

I wasn't really expecting "Suicide Squad" for the movie itself (which is critically panned, so count me out), but for the promise of new Grimes material. The resulting song, "Medieval Warfare", is very Nine Inch Nails-sounding. I like it, although it's a little run-of-the-mill if you take it as a NIN-inspired song. Grimes' singing and lyrics are otherwise just as nasty as ever. Overall, it's pretty good.

Perhaps it's just me, but I don't feel like it has been a very good year for songs. This is a bit surprising, since I feel like it has been a pretty decent year for albums. In fact, most of the top songs seem to be from a handful of albums.

I'm curious to hear what everyone thinks will place high on the year-end Acclaimed Music song list. To me, many spots in the top 10 - including number 1 are completely up for grabs. Right now, I think number one would be between "Ultralight Beam" and "One Dance".

These are the songs that I think have a decent shot at a top 50 placement. What else am I missing?

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds:
I Need You
Jesus Alone

Beyonce:
Formation
Sorry
Freedom
All Night
Hold Up

Frank Ocean:
Nikes
Pink + White
Nights

David Bowie:
Lazarus
I Can't Give Everything Away
Blackstar (2015)

Angel Olsen:

Shut Up Kiss Me
Intern

Radiohead:
Burn the Witch
True Love Waits
Daydreaming
Present Tense

Anohi:
4 Degrees
Drone Bomb Me

Car Seat Headrest:
Drunk Drivers/Killer Whales
Vincent
Fill in the Blank

Kendrick Lamar:
untitled 07 | levitate

James Blake:
I Need a Forrest Fire

Chance the Rapper:
No Problems
All Night
Same Drugs

Michael Kiwanuka:
Cold Little Heart
Love & Hate

Mitski:
Your Best American Girl
Happy

Savages:
Adore

Kanye West:
Ultralight Beam
Famous
No More Parties in L.A.

Bon Iver:
22(OVER SEVEN)
33 "GOD"

There's still 3 months for top songs of the year to reveal themselves. so I don't feel the need to get nervous quite yet. I can definitely see them slipping in at the end of the year, like "Lazarus" did last year.

I thought "Blonde" was a very good album, but as it stands there's no one song that really stands out to me. Maybe a couple more listens will reveal something, but for me the album is more of a case of "an album full of good songs with no real stand outs". Compare this to "Channel Orange", where "Pyramids", "Thinkin Bout You", "Sweet Life", "Bad Religion", and "Lost" all made my top 50 songs of the year (!!).

Yeah, I agree with this, but I think "Nights" and "Pink + White" are really good songs.

That's either 2014 (if you take into account the French version titled Christine) or 2015 (the one in English).
I guess for this kind of songs, like 99 luftballons or anything by Kraftwerk, Henrik considers all the versions together. Not sure anyone mentioned before that it was the same song though.

Normally not into trap at all, but I'm loving D.R.A.M.'s single "Broccoli". Such a fun song with unusual instrumental for a trap song (prominent piano and flute run throughout the song).

"Broccoli" is rapidly climbing my songs of the year list.

The new Foxygen songs sound amazing. I really liked their album "We Are the 21st Century...", but their followup "...And Star Power" was absolute trash, probably the worst album I've heard from this decade so far.

Glad to see them returning to form.
