TOP 10 Rock Albums

Post by luney6 » Sun Feb 21, 2016 1:10 pm

This is a small and not very time consuming game. In this topic, list the top 10 (thread title) of all time off the top of your head.

This week we have a really common topic, but I am curious as to what the favorite albums of many of you are, in addition to wanting to see any changes to the lists I have already seen.

Edit: I meant rock albums. SO no jazz no classical.

This was the top ten albums I would consider rock from the albums list I submitted for the most recent forum all-time poll, with only a few adjustments (I've been souring a bit on Talking Heads lately, relatively speaking of course).

1. Slint | Spiderland
2. Patti Smith | Horses
3. Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti | The Doldrums
4. The Velvet Underground and Nico | The Velvet Underground and Nico
5. Talking Heads | Remain in Light
6. Pere Ubu | The Modern Dance
7. R.E.M. | Murmur
8. Tom Waits | Rain Dogs
9. Fugazi | The Argument
10. Dr. John | Gris-Gris

5. David Bowie- The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars

No problem at all, but, for the record I originally meant for Rock to mean everything save for classical and jazz.

Also known as "my 10 favorite albums of all time"

1- Led Zeppelin IV
2- Abbey Road
3- Are You Experienced
4- Bringing It All Back Home
5- In Utero
6- Axis: Bold As Love
7- Sticky Fingers
8- Wish You Were Here
9- Revolver
10- Automatic For the People
This was pulled straight from my 2014 list. Looking through it, the highest ranked album I wouldn't consider rock is #21 (Innervisions).

1. Nirvana – Nevermind
2. Bruce Springsteen – Born in the U.S.A.
3. Pearl Jam – Ten
4. Suzanne Vega – Solitude Standing
5. Sting – The Soul Cages
6. Justin Hayward – Songwriter
7. Billy Idol – Whiplash Smile
8. Joy Division - Closer
9. Bob Dylan – Blonde on Blonde
10. The Clash - London Calling

Pulled from my 2014 e-mailed submission to DocBrown.
I'm going to pull a Nick as well, though this only removes Reading, Writing and Arithmetic by the Sundays, which was at the #10 spot. As with my top 100 songs, a lot of rock, and a lot of "right place, right time" choices instead of historically-minded choices.

No jazz or classical would be my top 10 and that's boring. I also limited to one album and artist, because you don't all need to be reminded of my love of The White Stripes.

1. The White Stripes - Elephant
2. Pixies - Doolittle
3. The Smiths - Strangeways, Here We Come
4. David Bowie - The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars
5. The Kills - Midnight Boom
6. The Velvet Underground- The Velvet Underground and Nico
7. Radiohead - In Rainbows
8. Courtney Barnett - Sometimes I Sit...
9. The Rolling Stones - Let It Bleed
10. Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am...

Thank you. I'm really happy to hear that. Be wary of Faust and Ocean Songs though, they are slightly difficult listens, but very rewarding as well.
