6. Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation: "Candle"
7. Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde: "Absolutely Sweet Marie"
11. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II: "Thank You"
16. Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica: "Veteran's Day Poppy"

Even though Trout Mask Replica doesn't contain a single ineligible song, I'm pretty sure whatever was chosen would end up my least favorite in the whole contest; and I'm one of the people who like the album. For some reason I can only handle Beefheart in large doses where my mind can adjust to whatever he's doing. The first two songs are really strong.

2. David Bowie - Low: "Warszawa"
8. Prince - Purple Rain: "Darling Nikki"
12. The Clash - The Clash: "Police and Thieves"
13. Michael Jackson - Thriller: "The Lady in My Life"

"Warszawa" is one of Bowie's strangest works, and I'm honestly surprised it isn't on the AM list. "Police and Thieves," while fun, really doesn't hold up to the original version.

1. Primal Scream - Screamadelica: "I'm Comin' Down"
3. Neil Young - Harvest: "There's a World"
4. The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico: "The Black Angel's Death Song"
10. Sly and the Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On: "Thank You for Talking to Me, Africa"

Easily one of the strongest round 1 matches; the fact that the song from my favorite album is in third says a lot. Screamadelica is one of those albums that, while apparently acclaimed, seems rather unexplored. "I'm Comin' Down" gives me this strange sense of peacefulness that songs rarely pull off. "There's a World" comes from the other direction, carrying this sort of oppressive atmosphere. "The Black Angel's Death Song" is an easy choice off of VU&N, but a bit too simple in its experimentation to stand out among the more acclaimed songs on its album.

5. John Lennon - John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band: "Love"
9. Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks - Here's the Sex Pistols: "Bodies"
14. Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure: "Grey Lagoons"
15. James Brown - 'Live' At the Apollo: "I'll Go Crazy"

Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica: "Veteran's Day Poppy"
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation: "Candle"
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II: "Thank You"
Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde: "Absolutely Sweet Marie"

David Bowie - Low: "Warszawa"
Prince - Purple Rain: "Darling Nikki"
The Clash - The Clash: "Police and Thieves"
Michael Jackson - Thriller: "The Lady in My Life"

Neil Young - Harvest: "There's a World"
Sly and the Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On: "Thank You for Talking to Me, Africa"
The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico: "The Black Angel's Death Song"
Primal Scream - Screamadelica: "I'm Comin' Down"

James Brown - 'Live' At the Apollo: "I'll Go Crazy"
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks - Here's the Sex Pistols: "Bodies"
John Lennon - John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band: "Love"
Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure: "Grey Lagoons"

Very good week for me: The only two songs I don’t particularly care for are MJ’s ballad and the Clash’s remake (both in the second bracket).

1. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II: "Thank You"
2. Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde: "Absolutely Sweet Marie"
4. Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation: "Candle"
14. Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica: "Veteran's Day Poppy"

Easily the best bracket for me, although if 'Cross the Breeze or The Sprawl had been chosen from Daydream Nation they would have been my favourite of the week and Candle would've won any other bracket but the last. Unfortunate for Veteran's Day Poppy but even though I don't hate Trout Mask Replica i doubt any of the songs from the album would've been even close to winning any of the brackets.

7. Prince - Purple Rain: "Darling Nikki"
9. David Bowie - Low: "Warszawa"
10. Michael Jackson - Thriller: "The Lady in My Life"
16. The Clash - The Clash: "Police and Thieves"

Don't like Police and Thieves, the other three are good.

6. Primal Scream - Screamadelica: "I'm Comin' Down"
8. Neil Young - Harvest: "There's a World"
11. The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico: "The Black Angel's Death Song"
15. Sly and the Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On: "Thank You for Talking to Me, Africa"

I Feel like i would've given any song from Screamadelica the top spot but then again i thought the same for Daydream Nation. "Thank You for Talking to Me, Africa" is actually one of the few tracks i like from There's a Riot Goin' On but it's still one of my least favourite this week. The other two are good but i've always overlooked "The Black Angel's Death Song" because of the quality of the rest of the album.

3. Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks - Here's the Sex Pistols: "Bodies"
5. Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure: "Grey Lagoons"
12. John Lennon - John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band: "Love"
13. James Brown - 'Live' At the Apollo: "I'll Go Crazy"

Two great songs, two average songs. Basically any song from Here's the Sex pistols would've won this group or come close for me. The situation with I'll go crazy is similar to Thank you for talking to me africa, one of my favourites of the album but bad compared to the other songs in the bracket.

1. Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica: "Veteran's Day Poppy"
2. Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde: "Absolutely Sweet Marie"
3. Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation: "Candle"
4. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II: "Thank You"

The Magic Band rockin' out in pretty conventional fashion (well for the most part). Shame it's placed so low. This track is more straightforward than the Sonic Youth, Sly Stone, Prince or the Velvets tracks.

1. The Clash - The Clash: "Police and Thieves"
2. David Bowie - Low: "Warszawa"
3. Prince - Purple Rain: "Darling Nikki"
4. Michael Jackson - Thriller: "The Lady in My Life"

This version of "Police and Thieves" doesn't beat the original, but is very well done.

1. Sly and the Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On: "Thank You for Talking to Me, Africa"
2. The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico: "The Black Angel's Death Song"
3. Primal Scream - Screamadelica: "I'm Comin' Down"
4. Neil Young - Harvest: "There's a World"

1. John Lennon - John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band: "Love"
2. Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure: "Grey Lagoons"
3. James Brown - 'Live' At the Apollo: "I'll Go Crazy"
4. Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks - Here's the Sex Pistols: "Bodies"

This is the strongest bracket by far.

Candle
Thank You
Absolutely Sweet Marie
Veterans Day Poppy
I will never understand the appeal of Beefheart.

Darling Nikki
Warszawa
Police and Thieves
The Lady in My Life
Prince has my favorite song of the week.

There's a World
Thank You For Talking To Me, Africa
I'm Coming Down
The Black Angel's Death Song
Weak-ass bracket. Even the Neil Young song is too over the top for me. The VU track is one of two (along with "European Son") that I wish just weren't on the album.

Love
Bodies
I'll Go Crazy
Grey Lagoons
Decent group of songs.

Thank You
Candle
Absolutely Sweet Marie
Veteran's Day Poppy

The two sentimental tracks win out. I actually do have fairly fond memories of "Thank You".

While "Veteran's Day Poppy" is probably the track from Trout Mask that holds up best on its own, it's still very outclassed here.

Warszawa
Darling Nikki
Police and Thieves
The Lady in my Life

Anyone know a song that seems like it should be on AM but isn't? "Warszawa" is one of those songs for me.

Prince cut it close Winning over a decent Clash song and a surprisingly uninspired MJ tune.

I'm Coming Down
There's a World
Thank You for Talking to Me, Africa
Black Angel's Death Song

I've only just started to get into Screamadelica. It's an album that took a few listens to fully grow on me, but consider me fully integrated now.

I called "Black Angel" the dud from VU&N back during Rank the Tracks. That opinion has not changed.

I'll Go Crazy
Grey Lagoons
Bodies
Love

I don't really even dislike any of these.

This group is stacked to the brim with quality songs. The first three are especially great. I love Led Zeppelin, but they're out of their league on this one.

Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica: "Veteran's Day Poppy"
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation: "Candle"
Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde: "Absolutely Sweet Marie"
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II: "Thank You"

Rather strong group as well. Prince gives a fantastic vocal performance on Darling Nikki. The Clash has a fantastic punk-reggae fusion vibe on Police and Thieves. The David Bowie song contains some spectacular melodies, but it has a lot of filler, and too less depth, although Bowie's vocals are spot on. But the song could have lost around 3 minutes and it wouldn't have mattered. And plus, all the build up really doesn't lead anywhere, and the coda is really abrupt. The Lady in my Life has very good instrumentation, but is ultimately outclassed.

Prince - Purple Rain: "Darling Nikki"
The Clash - The Clash: "Police and Thieves"
David Bowie - Low: "Warszawa"
Michael Jackson - Thriller: "The Lady in My Life"

The Black Angel's Death Song is an absolutely perfect song, with the sum of its different elements being downright incredible. The second and the third song are virtually equal. Neil Young masters a majestic atmosphere and combines it with excellent rhythms, along with fantastic vocal harmonies backed by near perfect production and an amazing coda. Primal Scream has a very trippy vibe coupled with extremely interesting instrumentation. Sounds fantastic. The Sly and the family stone song is funky, but far too repetitive.

Edit: Actually, nevermind. apparently I was listening to Higher than the Sun and There's a world at the same time. They fit into each other seamlessly.

The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico: "The Black Angel's Death Song"
Primal Scream - Screamadelica: "I'm Comin' Down"
Neil Young - Harvest: "There's a World
Sly and the Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On: "Thank You for Talking to Me, Africa"

I was doubtful as to how I would find For Your Pleasure to be, because classic well acclaimed album that I'd heard around an year back and loved were generally starting to feel overrated to me, after listening to them now (Low, par exemple). But Roxy Music defies expectations. The John Lennon track is one of the better ones of the album, but nowhere close to Roxy Music. Sex Pistols and James Brown, both seem mediocre in comparison to all the other tracks in the competition so far, although they are above average as well.

Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure: "Grey Lagoons"
John Lennon - John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band: "Love"
James Brown - 'Live' At the Apollo: "I'll Go Crazy"
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks - Here's the Sex Pistols: "Bodies"
"God grant me the serenity to accept things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference."

Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation: "Candle"
Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde: "Absolutely Sweet Marie"
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II: "Thank You"
Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica: "Veteran's Day Poppy"

Sonic Youth's song is unbelievably good, but then so is every song on Daydream Nation... Distorted, detuned guitars just don't get any better. Bob Dylan's classic structure and tune brings it second. Zeppelin's track is average and I still can't fathom Beefheart.

The Clash - The Clash: "Police and Thieves"
David Bowie - Low: "Warszawa"
Prince - Purple Rain: "Darling Nikki"
Michael Jackson - Thriller: "The Lady in My Life"

A very very weak group for me. The Clash give an OK version of Police & Thieves, but I prefer the original. Bowie's Warszawa is pretty good, but too slow and not "beautiful" enough to generate more than a slight nod. I really do not like Prince's output, but he beats MJ hands down on this occasion. Cannot stand the soppiness of "The Lady in my Life"

Primal Scream - Screamadelica: "I'm Comin' Down"
Neil Young - Harvest: "There's a World"
The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico: "The Black Angel's Death Song
Sly and the Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On: "Thank You for Talking to Me, Africa"

Primal Scream's Screamadelica is a masterpiece, any song out of it was going to take the cake. Big Fan of Neil Young and VU, the melody of "There's a world" beats "The Black Angel's Death Song". Sly's is far too repetitive indeed.

Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks - Here's the Sex Pistols: "Bodies"
Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure: "Grey Lagoons"
James Brown - 'Live' At the Apollo: "I'll Go Crazy"
John Lennon - John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band: "Love"

Good show from James Brown (his live records are most of the time unbelievable), John Lennon has used a very generic format for this song, and it therefore arrives last...
Surprisingly, the top spot is grabbed by John Lydon... Roxy's track is great, but I enjoyed Bodies more this time around...

2. Bob Dylan- Blonde on Blonde: "Absolutely Sweet Marie"
9. Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation: "Candle"
11. Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - "Trout Mask Replica: "Veteran's Day Poppy"
14. Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II: "Thank You

Bob Dylan by a fair margin here.

3. Prince - Purple Rain: "Darling Nikki"
5. David Bowie - Low: "Warszawa"
12. Michael Jackson - Thriller: "The Lady in My Life"
15. The Clash - The Clash: "Police and Thieves"

Prince followed closely by Bowie. I've always loved Purple Rain so I'm not sure I'm being fully objective here, but Bowie's offering was quite strong as well. The other two I didn't too much care for. Both decent.

7. Sly and the Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On: "Thank You for Talking to Me, Africa"
8. Primal Scream - Screamadelica: "I'm Comin' Down"
13. The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico: "The Black Angel's Death Song"
16. Neil Young - Harvest: "There's a World"

I was surprised when I heard the Sly song again, I thought Primal Scream would win by a landslide here for me. Don't particularly like Neil Young, though he definitely has some good songs on, this I would say is not to my taste.

1. Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks - Here's the Sex Pistols: "Bodies"
4. Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure: "Grey Lagoons"
6. John Lennon - John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band: "Love"
10 . James Brown - 'Live' At the Apollo: "I'll Go Crazy"

Close bracket here.

These results have me on the edge of my seat...we're also currently down 5 votes from last week, so hopefully we'll have a few more to add by the end of the day.

I'd say it gets better after the first minute... he stops singing early on.

Sadly, that first minute ruined the song completely. Therefore it's last.

Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II: "Thank You"
Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica: "Veteran's Day Poppy"
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation: "Candle"
Bob Dylan - Blonde on Blonde: "Absolutely Sweet Marie"

I have a lot of emotions tied into "Thank You" (it is my nom after all) so it naturally takes the top place. However, three other great songs, particularly "Veteran's Day Poppy", a song whose low votes this week I honestly can't quite understand. "Dachau Blues", maybe, but this is pretty legible. "Candle" is a good song from a better album, and "Absolutely Sweet Marie" might be the worst song on Blonde on Blonde.

The Clash - The Clash: "Police and Thieves"
David Bowie - Low: "Warszawa"
Michael Jackson - Thriller: "The Lady in My Life"
Prince - Purple Rain: "Darling Nikki"

I think I'm in the minority that likes the Clash's cover of this song more than the original. The David Bowie track is stellar.

The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico: "The Black Angel's Death Song"
Primal Scream - Screamadelica: "I'm Comin' Down"
Sly and the Family Stone - There's a Riot Goin' On: "Thank You for Talking to Me, Africa"
Neil Young - Harvest: "There's a World"

The VU track has been a standout from that album since the moment I heard it, even though (or maybe because) it's so bizarre. There's a great sense of peace about the Primal Scream song that I can't get enough of. I've never cared for the bombastic strings on "There's a World", and the Sly Stone song really needs something, I don't know, more?

Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure: "Grey Lagoons"
John Lennon - John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band: "Love"
James Brown - 'Live' At the Apollo: "I'll Go Crazy"
Sex Pistols - Never Mind the Bollocks - Here's the Sex Pistols: "Bodies"

Four albums I haven't listened to as much as most acclaimed ones, so a lot of fun surprises abound, particularly the Roxy Music track.

Match 1:
And, just because I was interested in getting this information, here are the one-on-one results:
Candle vs. Absolutely Sweet Marie: 16-10
Candle vs. Thank You: 20-6
Candle vs. Veteran's Day Poppy: 18-8
Absolutely Saint Marie vs. Thank You: 18-8
Absolutely Saint Marie vs. Veteran's Day Poppy: 19-7
Thank You vs. Veteran's Day Poppy: 17-9

Win loss ratio:
Candle: 3-0
Absolute Sweet Mario: 2-1
Thank You: 1-2
Veteran's Day Poppy: 0-3

Match 2:
Warszawa vs. Darling Nikki: 13-13
Warszawa vs. Police and Thieves: 16-10
Warszawa vs. The Lady in My Life: 21-5

Police and Thieves: 1-2
The Lady in My Life: 0-3

Match 3:
Thank You for Talking to Me Africa vs. There's a World: 14-12
Thank You for Talking to Me Africa vs. I'm Comin' Down: 18-8

I'm Comin' Down vs. The Black Angel's Death Song: 14-12

Win ratio:
Thank You for Talking to Me Africa: 3-0
I'm Comin' Down: 2-1
There's a World: 1-2

The Black Angel's Death Song: 0-3

So, I'm Coming Down is likely the stronger song one-on-one, but the people who don't like it really don't like it. Sad.

I'll Go Crazy vs. Love: 12-14
