AMF Chart Week 6 2016

Post by Setherex »

Welcome to Week 6 of the AMF Chart! The chart where no entry with Hall of Fame potential is a sure thing.

Here are your rankings for Week 5 (number of weeks on the chart so far in parentheses):
1. PJ Harvey - "The Wheel" (2)
2. David Bowie - "Lazarus" (4)
3. Grimes - "Artangels" (1)

7. Helen - "Dying All the Time" (1)
8. Suede - "Pale Snow" (3)
9. Eefje de Visser - "Scheef" (1)
9. Hinds - "Chili Town" (1)

19. Damien Jurado - "Exit 353" (2)
19. Kanye West feat. Kendrick Lamar - "No More Parties in L.A." (2)
Total Votes: 99

Due to the tie for 9th, the top 11 songs went through to this week's chart. I'm in a bit of a hurry, but incredibly interesting developments as the last 2015 entry on the chart falls without a Hall of Fame admittance. Strong competition all around, though.

2016 Chart-Toppers by Week (by vote count, not chart position; total weeks atop chart in parentheses):
1. David Bowie - "Blackstar" (2)
2. David Bowie - "Blackstar" (3)
3. David Bowie - "Blackstar" (4)
4. David Bowie - "Blackstar" (5)
5. PJ Harvey - "The Wheel"

2015 Hall of Fame (10 weeks of advancing votes; automatically retired from chart):
Björk - "Black Lake" (Weeks 4 - 13)
Courtney Barnett - "Pedestrian at Best" (Weeks 5 - 14)
Father John Misty - "I Love You, Honeybear" (Weeks 7 - 16)
Sufjan Stevens - "No Shade in the Shadow of the Cross" (Weeks 8 - 17)

Mbongwana Star - "Suzanna" (Weeks 34 - 43)
Julia Holter - "Sea Calls Me Home" (Weeks 37 - 46)
Joanna Newsom - "Leaving the City" (Weeks 39 - 48)
Julia Holter - "Silhouette" (Weeks 40 - 49)
Beach House - "Elegy to the Void" (Weeks 44 - 1)

David Bowie - "Blackstar" (Weeks 47 - 4)

Songs that entered the chart in 2015 will be added to the 2015 Hall of Fame, rather than the 2016 Hall of Fame.

Here is this week's 18-song Spotify chart (with 2 songs included below via YouTube link):

Here is your 2016 AMF Chart playlist of all songs on the chart so far this year:

Thank you all for voting and nominating continuously every week! Please don't be afraid to supply us with nominations - all songs six months old and younger (or who have received promotion via album/video/single in the last six months) are accepted! And seconding nominations by others gives those songs a better chance at making the next poll!

As per usual, the next poll will be created as close to Sunday at 19:00 UTC as I can make it. Best of voting! :D

Apologies to luney6, whose nomination for Damaged Bug didn't seem to follow the six month guideline. No worries, though! :greetings-waveyellow:

No problem, then. I'd like to nominate Instrumental 4 by Flying Saucer Attack.

The last years we have been spoiled with excellent female singer / songwriters breaking through.
Sharon van Etten, Julien Baker, Courtney Barnett, Julia Holter, etc.

Will 2016 become the breakthrough year for Margaret Glaspy? My nominations for this week:
Margaret Glaspy - Somebody To Anybody
Margaret Glaspy - You And I

Yup. In fact, I found out about them when they released Instrumentals 2015 in July last year. Really interesting album.

Some really great discoveries this week...

PJ Harvey still goes really strong, as do Savages.
Helen is building momentum, great song...

However, the new entries show some real qualities...

Cavern of Anti Matter / Deftones / Eric Prydz --> all great tracks
Cherries on top of the cake for me ? Triangulo de Amor Bizarro, a favorite of mine and a band I had never heard of before, Ulrika Spacek. Got to listen and discover a bit more from them :)

My first nomination, and it rocks.

Karma to Burn - Sixty-Two

I have plenty more nominations where this comes from - shall I hold off ? How do you decide to put nominations in ? What's the rule for their staying until the next week ? Top 10 ?

You might want to have a look at the main AMF chart thread here which includes nominations rules.

Indeed. The rules are somewhat complicated for me to explain in a streamlined fashion, haha. But in essence, you are perfectly welcome to nominate as many songs as you want each week, given they follow the relative six-month guideline.

Each week, the top 10 songs from the chart go through to the next round (or more, given a tie), and 10 new songs are selected from that week's nominations. It basically goes in an order of seconded noms first, followed by everyone getting their first nom in order, and so on.

I got so caught up in Kanye fever, I totally forgot my poll reminder! Apologies all around.

BUT, this is the last opportunity to send in your votes, nominations, and seconding nominations for next week's poll! I'm going to do my best to let Yeezy sink in before I send some picks in... so instead I choose:

James Blake - "Modern Soul"
Keith Ape feat. A$AP Ferg, Waka Flocka Flame, Father & Dumbfoundead - "It G Ma" (josh pan Opus Remix)
Junior Boys - "What You Won't Do for Love" (Bobby Caldwell cover)
