STEVE REICH GROUP

Misty In Roots-Sodom and Gomorrah - I generally don't listen to reggae, as I find it annoying. This is definitely the best reggae song I've ever heard.
Solid Space-10th Planet - It's good, but sounds a bit silly at times.
Bjork-Verandi - Not bad, really. Would probably have done better in other groups.
Blue Oyster Cult-Burning for You - I like the stanzas, which sound a bit like a mix between Roxy Music and Dire Straits. The rest is boring.

This is the second of the eight weeks where I've liked every song (and my favorite week overall). My nostalgia's showing with my #1, and BOC is sure to get destroyed, but the entire "Fire of Unknown Origin" album brings back great memories, so I'm glad somebody nominated a song from it.

I guess this was my favorite week overall. At least, the Haydn had the best songs.

REICH GROUP

Bjork-Verandi
Blue Oyster Cult-Burnin' for You
Solid Space-Tenth Planet
Misty in Roots-Sodom and Gommorah

THEREMIN!!! Bjork wins! I think she, Janelle, and AR Kane are probably the front-runners in this tournament.

Blue Oyster Cult only has, what, three songs. This one is decent. Plus, my local Classic Rock station plays it fairly often.

Solid Space was fun. Reminds me of Devo for some reason.

Misty In Roots is a new blend of reggae I haven't really heard to much. I must know more. The song would have done better in a few of the other groups but was somewhat outclassed here.

HAYDN GROUP

Yasunori Mitsuda-Time's Scar
They Might be Giants-Experimental Film
Four Tet-Locked
Todd Rundgren-Compassion

I wish "Time's Scar" had won the video game tournament. At least, it would have been better to face the eventual winner in the finale rather than in the Round of 16. It reminds me a lot of "Stella" actually.

Ah, the memories. I really liked "Experimental Film" when I was younger. It gets nostalgia points.

"Locked" was a good instrumental. It works as homework music.

The third Todd Rundgren song in as many Unacclaimed tournaments...and honestly, I think this is the weakest of them. His other ones had energy and hustle, this just sounds like a Starship song. Not bad, but not exceptionally good either. Think of my prior statement as testament to the strength of both "The Ikon" and "No World Order".

Perhaps BOC only has three songs that you've heard.

They have many more that are worth a listen including:

Don't Fear the Reaper
Then Came the Last Days of May
Sole Survivor
Fire of Unknown Origin
Transmaniacon MC
Stairway to the Stars
Before the Kiss, A Redcap
Screams
Cities On Flame with Rock and Roll
Redeemed
Astronomy
Joan Crawford

Vengeance

Amen, Henry.
In addition to those you mentioned, I would also add "Morning Final," "Tenderloin," and "After Dark."

STEVE REICH GROUP
Bjork - Verandi
Misty In Roots - Sodom and Gomorrah
Blue Oyster Cult - Burning for You
Solid Space - 10th Planet

Björk creates an experimental melting pot of classical, electronic and exotic sounds. Misty in Roots is a British band, but they sound Jamaican. Blue Oyster Cult is a nice pop song, but nothing exceptional. Is Solid Space an attempt to sound like David Bowie?

FRANZ JOSEPH HAYDN GROUP
Todd Rundgren - Compassion
Four Tet - Locked
They Might be Giants - Experimental Film
Yasunori Mitsuda - Time's Scar

Todd Rundgren is an experienced musician, the jazzy harmonies and close harmony backing vocals remind me of Steely Dan. Four Tet has a good electronic sound, but it's a bit too repetitive. They Might Be Giants isn't a bad song, but I'm not wild about the voice. Mitsuda is rather kitschy.

I just realized I'll be home late Friday because of Thanksgiving here in the US. I'm traveling over the break and come home late Friday.

As per usual policy, votes will be accepted after the deadline.

REICH:
1. Verandi - Everyone needs some Björk in their life.
2. Burnin' For You - This is another one I've heard often on classic rock radio, but never really paid attention because it just sounded like a worse version of The Reaper. Listening to it now, it's clearly very different, but its overall genericness stands out more. Still, it's not that bad, which puts it above...
3. Sodom and Gomorrah - You can really feel the fire burning in this one. Still, I'm putting it below BOC because I can't really figure out how to react to it other than "this is reggae".
4. 10th Planet - I can appreciate the minimal thing, but I can't get behind that voice.

HAYDN:
1. Experimental Film - Going by personality rather than musical style, TMBG is probably the act that best meshes with me. They feel far more intelligent to me than any "serious" act could ever be. Still, I often find their music sort of uninteresting with a few exceptions, and this is definitely one of those, if only because of its association with Homestar Runner.
2. Locked - It's well produced, that's important to me.
3. Time's Scar - I've never played Chrono Cross, so I don't really have the context to enjoy this, not that I think I'd care for it much anyways. But it's kinda catchy, which puts it in not last.
4. Compassion - Nothing to salvage here. Sorry, Todd.

OK We are Done!

Ron's vote came right as I came down.

Let's close the polls for the final time, but please recount, as it's close enough to warrant one.

REICH

Bjork-Verandi (48, 8)
Solid Space-10th Planet (36, 2)
---
Blue Oyster Cult-Burning for You (29, 2)
Misty in Roots-Sodom and Gommorrah (27, 2)

Well, you can kinda see how Bjork dominated. She did get the most top votes. Bjork is definitely a favorite.

HAYDN

Yasunori Mitsuda - Time's Scar (37, 6)
Four Tet - Locked (37, 3)
---
They Might Be Giants - Experimental Film (34, 2)
Todd Rundgren - Compassion (22, 2)

For the first time in Unacclaimed history, we had to resort to tiebreak. Four Tet trailed a bit, but eventually emerged as a contender, but no song was ever completely out of it.

Again, it was close enough to warrant a recount, so please help me out here. I think I derped with Ron's vote.
