Here are the songs

* I'm still not clear regarding the Abbey Road medley. Some sites count certain groups of songs to represent 2 medleys (Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight, The End) as one and (You Never Give Me Your Money, Sun King, Mean Mr. Mustard, Polythene Pam, She Came in Through the Bathroom Window) as a second one. The usual AM convention is to treat Because & You Never Give Me Your Money as separate songs and 'Golden Slumbers, Carry That Weight, The End' as one 'song'. Not sure about the others, maybe a long standing contributor can enlighten us.

Otherplaces count all as one entry and sometimes the song Because is included. My second entry will be the side 2 Abbey Road medley from Because to the End. If it is not elligible please replace it with just You never Give Me Your Money
Here's what I think: "You Never Give Me Your Money" is part of the "first" medley which starts there. "Because" feels like a closing song and "YNGMYM" a starting song. It is also the medley with an even standard throughout.

Does the "first" medley / (in my book) start with "YNGMYM" or "Sun King"? If you listen close the drum in "Sun King" starts very soon after the last "1-2-3-4, All The Children Go To Heaven"-choir piece. And they fill out the space with glockenspiel and insects. "Carry That Weight" is cheesy and "The End" not that good. "Golden Slumbers" has its magic moments.

But since "You Never Give ME Your Money" is so good I will treat it as one song and the rest of the "first medley" as one piece but not include it among the first 15. A typical no. 16 "song". Bye-bye, insects and all. "

To name the whole side 2 a medley is to put too much emphasis on function (oh! ONE whole side full of something short in nature on its own) imho. It is also something that "young" people (read "Grammy nominations is something (!) for british people, Ben Stiller, not counting in AM:ers among these) might do to refer to something hard to understand 64 (46?) years after when they discover their granma's album collection. Or inherits it. Now spinning on a high tech plattenspieler.

What greater resistance is there than recording industry not letting us hear the music with as much information in it as possible? Had to write this this first Neil Young-album year, 1969.

Football Club United Kingdom other sites. WE decide! Or we can call Macca.

Now, with full respect for taste and Zombeels suggestion, let this matter live!

That is interesting. I have this song listed as 1974 - when it appeared on
Yèkatit: Ethio Jazz - Mulatu Astatke Featuring Fekade Amde Maskal

However, many African recordings were released first in Africa and only later internationally. Do you know details of the first release Charlie?

Yes, it's very hard to date African records. My only source in this case is this Discogs page (see "Notes").

'Yekermo Sew' placed 18 in our 1974 poll (failing to make the decade poll). However, I'm pretty convinced that it does belong in 1969, so I'll be adding it to my songs list when I've decided where it ranks.

Another tricky thing is Donny Hathaways "The Ghetto" (my #3). Most sources say, the record was released in 1970, but RYM newly lists it in 1969 (and this Atco-discography, too). The single entered Billboard charts on January, 17th, 1970.

I recently heard a new album, and therefore I've made a few changes to my list.

Perhaps a bit late in, but I just have to ask if everybody knows that 1969 is the year The Boxer by Simon & Garfunkel came out. The album is 1970 of course, but the song is from the previous year. I ask this because it was in the top 100 of the recent song poll, but it barely gets votes here. I also ask it because it is my favorite song of all time ;)

Definitely 1969 and I'm confident it will get more support, but making the cut for the decade poll may be touch and go.

Very, very good year. Too many great song to chose from. It contains my favorite song of all time and it was also a particular great year for Led Zeppelin.

1. Simon & Garfunkel - The Boxer (my #1 of all time)
2. The Band - Up On Cripple Creek
3. Led Zeppelin - Dazed and Confused
4. David Bowie - Space Oddity
5. The Kinks - Shangri-La
6. Jimmy Cliff - Many Rivers to Cross
7. Led Zeppelin - Ramble On
8. Johnny Cash & Bob Dylan - Woman from the North Country
9. Fairpoirt Convention - Percy's Song
10. The Rolling Stones - You Can't Always Get What You Want
11. The Delfonics - Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)
12. George Baker Selection - Little Green Bag
13. Frank Sinatra - My Way
14. Frank Zappa - Willie the Pimp
15. Led Zeppelin - Heartbreaker

The wealth of riches does seem to mean that the love is spread out amongst many songs here on AM, so I'm curious which songs are coming out on top. Maybe I just look at it wrong, but I think there are few songs with a lot of top 15 votes.

Oddly enough, on the albums front, Abbey Road is maybe setting a record for most #1 votes for a year.

That's interesting. In songs however, Gimme Shelter had 3 #1 votes and Space Oddity has 2, but besides that there are mostly left-field choices for number 1.

Indeed. The current #3 song is unranked on AM and will be a surprise to many.

Abbey Road is still well behind The White Album for #1 votes, but we are still 6 album lists short of the number for 1968, and this poll will stay open for approx. another 30 hours.
