Unacclaimed III: The Draw and Lists

Post by whuntva »

Alright, this weekend marks our third ever Unacclaimed tournament. A list of songs completely overlooked by major critics nominated. Thirty lists were given, three songs were on multiple lists. A few observations:

[*]There's nothing that stands out
[*]Most of the groups seem fairly balanced.
[*]Nothing is clearly head and shoulders better

So, it really seems like anyone's game.

I decided to post the draw without number assignments. In the scheme of the tournament, they don't really matter anyway. I will post the lists, but at the request of some of our voters, those lists will remain anonymous.

The groups are named after famous composers in honor of our recent Classical Poll.

"Kindred" is on AM, "Loner" is in Unacclaimed, and "Ashtray Wasp" made the all-time songs poll. The circle is complete?

I just noticed there are a lot of long songs.

A good number are 5+ mins, some going at about 10+, with one even as long as 24+ minutes.

I hope you set aside some time when voting.

Looks like we're guaranteed to have a Japanese song in round 2, if I'm remembering how this works.

Yes.

We did get an influx of Japanese songs this round.

The Rachmaninoff Group might as well be called the Kashiwa Daisuke Group, because three of the four entrants are Japanese there.

Shocking!

Also, it appears I made a mistake.

I forgot to add a #1 pick for one of these lists. Because this is last minute, the last song in the Dvorak Group is now Local H-Bound for the Floor.

Also, Earthling-Planet of the Apes was replaced with Cortijo and his Time Machine-Gumbo, because I missed that when looking over the lists and it should have qualified.

Earthling was merely moved due to a counting error. Janelle Monae was actually of lower priority.

The confusion seems to come from me deleting one of the dupes.

Thanks whuntva. I appreciate you don't put the names instead, with the list behind, it's pretty easy to find who post this or this ;-)

I'm going to dive in these set now....

Hi thanks for this huge effort, well worth it. Just a quickie though, is it normal to have two songs from the same list pinned against each other in the same pool ? Or was it simply unavoidable ?

Very happy with this turnout! Not just with how many of my nominations got in, but there are at least two others here which I had considered voting for as well. And also some ("La Villa Strangiato") which I had no idea were unacclaimed. So there you go! Can't wait to start playing.

It's completely random. Once I run the program, I have no idea where they fall. This is just the way the cookie crumbles this time.

This surprised me as well - I'm actually very surprised how few Rush albums are listed, but thought for sure Hemispheres would be there!

I missed the second list.

"Many Moons" is back in the tournament, "Planet of the Apes" is not. Sorry! A few other links have been updated.

"Kiss me Again" was the dupe I removed in editing the draw and forgot to insert back. It got a #1 and a #10 vote.

Please peruse the lists for any further duplicates, mistitlings, or any other errors in the Draw.

If there are no complaints by Friday Morning (EDT), The game will be live first thing tomorrow morning.

"Gerudo Valley" is the 25th anniversary symphony version. I'd imagine putting in the original version from Ocarina of Time would be best. Though I personally prefer the Smash Bros. version.

That was actually the version the voter suggested.

They could PM me to change it, but that was the link they provided.

Is Stromae-Papaoutai really eligible? The album "Racine carrée" is bubbling under on AM.

The song has been changed and moved into Papaoutai.

Please check the eligibility of all songs. It would not be too much trouble for me to start the game over. It is only Week One after all.

Thank you!

I have two possibilities.

I received a request to add a song after Week Four.

However, the next highest eligible song is Earthling-Planet of the Apes, and would seem the logical choice to take its place. And I wouldn't want that voter to feel left out.

So, if the nominator of that song would please step forth and approve a new entry from a new user, that would be the best way to settle this. I think we have one more week before that group opens.

I was the one who nominated the Vivien Goldman song. (Gah! I should have checked if she was on the list after the latest update.) A replacement from another user is fine.
