Also, what is everybody's thoughts on pacing? I was thinking of getting through the first 500 today and then slowing down a bit from there out, add a bit of stuff to make it more than just the basic facts. Is this going too fast, too slow, etc?

Like Whuntva said, the pacing is just fine to me. I also agree with you about slowing it down once we reach the Top 500, so as to build up anticipation.

I'm gonna finish updating the playlist and that's it for tonight. What's everyone's thoughts so far? I think the most interesting thing is "Queen" taking the top spot for songs from last year. I think the simple explanation is that "Queen" is the type of song that doesn't speak to everyone, but the few who click with it really like it. Compare to something like "Seasons," where we all seem to agree it's pretty great but it doesn't really create a strong enough reaction to breach our overall top 100s.

Also impressive is Realiti managing to make it onto the list while only being released this year. Not only that, but higher than anything from the entirety of last year. And, really, considering the response to this song and Grimes' refusal to feature it on her album makes me feel like she's either gone crazy or is getting ready to drop a phenomenal album; if "Realiti" isn't good enough, what is?

Interestingly enough, I was listening to "Gardening at Night" as I read the 600 to 551 batch of results! I had never heard the song before, but I remembered that it was some AM user's favorite song. I have to say it's a pretty awesome song!

As a side note, does anyone else think The Decemberist's "Calamity Song" totally stole the opening riff from "Gardening at Night" (with an extra dash of "Talk About the Passion" included as well)?

598. Grimes - Realiti-Very impressive for a song that's only a few months old. I can definitively say this is my favorite Grimes song, especially since for me, "Oblivion" was nigh unlistenable. Does the 2015 poll have a frontrunner? We shall see!

586. Supertramp - The Logical Song-Odd to see this as a new entry because I always thought this was the most popular Supertramp song.

584. Lady Lamb The Beekeeper - Bird Balloons-Didn't go too far in Unacclaimed, but that wasn't really her fault. She lost a tough draw and had to face "Stella" right off the bat. True, she would have faced Anais had she won her group, but that may have gone better considering these results. PS, given my math, Unacclaimed's reigning champion will have a fantastic finish this poll!

558. Bloc Party - Banquet-Didn't vote for it, but it is a pretty fun song. Guess I'm just surprised to see it's a new entry.

787. The Alan Parsons Project - Old and Wise-Interesting. It's from the original Unacclaimed (and one which lost in the first round to boot) and probably won't be the last one from there. Still no 2.0's though. I wonder if any did make it.

It's in my top 10, but I definitely did not learn about it in the earlier Unacclaimed game, since I didn't know about this site then. In fact, in my home country, The Netherlands, Old and Wise is actually quite a famous song that tends to do well in polls. It's kind of funny how that goes. On an international site like this it is a very original selection, but on a Dutch forum it would draw as much attention as, say, Let It Be by The Beatles. Anyway, glad this made it.

723. Focus - Hocus Pocus-Oh my gosh! Really pleasant surprise here. I heard it a few summers ago and I mostly loved it because it's so wacky.

Yeah, favorites come and go with me as I develop my musical tastes, but this one has stayed solid at the top of my favorite songs. I remember hearing it for the first time too. I was working in a bakery at midnight about six years ago and this came on. It really broke the mood for me, in a good way. It's just one of these things that immediately grabbed me, because of its playful weirdness.

Seems like my top 10 did better than expected. I thought only four were certainties (they all still have to show up, but I'm sure they will), one could go either way (Piano Man by Billy Joel, still possible I guess) and five would not make the final thousand. Well, Mark Knopfler's Restless Farewell is out of the running, but it was the least likely songs of my top 10 to make it, as it is not only mostly unknown, but those who know it don't seem to care for it much. Except me for some reason. Then there is the main theme from Once Upon a Time in the West, which I don't give any chance to find an entrance here. But the other three made it to my surprise: Old and Wise, Hocus Pocus and Bird Balloons by Lady Lamb the Beekeeper. Strange that it only took two votes to give it quite a high ranking. It was my nomination for Unacclaimed back then and I have written about it a few times on this site so it's obviously a personal favorite and I love to find it back here (thanks Acroamor!). Is it the most obscure song in this list?

Interesting to see too that so many new entries still keep appearing. It really became a very different list than 3 years ago. I saw that one retrospectively two years ago, but I'm wondering, are you planning to provide a list afterwards with songs that have fallen off this top 1000, BluePanda?

I'm delighted this made the list, but I'm slightly saddened it isn't the more substantial closer to that album, Little Red Robin Hood Hit the Road. It still amazes me that that track has Fred Frith and Mike Oldfield, and yet Ivor Cutler's surrealist passage about bread and bursting tyres with hedgehogs steals the show. That harmonium really lends it some strange poignancy.

At least Sea Song seems set to appear in the top 400. I have no qualms about that one, it's a masterpiece.

489. Kanye West - All of the Lights-New entry? Really? My (possibly former) favorite Kanye Song wasn't on, and I voted it twice. Glad to see it this high, though. I don't think I would've liked MBDTF that much if this wasn't on here.

I have to respectfully disagree. I think it's likely my favorite album closer of all time (I know it's not the final track on MBDTF, but it's the final song). It does a marvelous job of summarizing the egotist's journey throughout the album and I adore the sort of reprise of the chant from "POWER" earlier in the album. I will agree, however, about "Devil in a New Dress" being the weakest track (I prefer to say "least great" as I think every track is perfect ).

edit: Also, I'm really digging the results so far. I'm especially pleased that "Flume" made the Iist, as well as "Afterlife."

I may be biased (I named it as my favorite song of all time) but I feel that it is personally Kanye's defining moment as a musician. After building up this very ornately produced palace of sin over the course of the album, Ye burns everything to the ground on this song, I've never felt such a feeling of catharsis is unlike anything else I've ever heard in a song. He acknowleges that search for meaning in the wake of suffering is both futile and absurd but also heroic, he embraces that feeling of being "lost" as transcendent. Instead of trying extra hard to prove himself as a rapper like his earlier material, his sole verse deploys instead simplicity: boiling his urges fears and hopes into an amazing verse. the breakdown at the end astounds me.

I'm sorry for the word vomit, this song just has such a personal meaning to me. Although even if it is the weakest track on MBDTF, that only shows what an amazing album MBDTF is

There's a general trend in this list where more obscure acts struggle to get their signature hit featured while many classic acts easily manage a few completely random tracks. Great presentation thus far, Bleupanda!

I don't know about anyone else, but I love to scroll through the results and read the lyrics Bleupanda's selected, and try and guess what the song is. Sometimes it's easy (like "Holland, 1945", who could forget those lyrics??), but some of the time it's actually really hard! It's so weird how a song that I've heard 50,000 times before becomes foreign to me when I have to read a couple of words from it totally divorced from any sort of musical context.

359. PJ Harvey - The Words That Maketh Murder-Another surprising new entry. I voted for it twice, but glad to see it on here.

338. Missy Elliott - Get Ur Freak On-I "get" it but don't really "like" it. My favorite Missy Elliott song is still "The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)" and nothing else came close.

336. MGMT - Kids-Man, oh man do I hate this song! Not only because it uses the infamous "four-chord" structure, but that plinking synth and that atrocious chorus just grind my gears in just the right way. Sorry guys, like it all you want, but I cannot stand this song. The rest of Oracular Spectacular is better.

Great stuff! Both really nice and slightly frustrating is the fact that I keep on noticing songs/artists that I could/should have added to my list, but forgot to or just didn't make the cut.

Bleupanda, the quote for Eddie Cochran - Summertime Blues doesn't belong to that song, but to PJ Harvey - The Words That Maketh Murder. Also, isn't The Girl from Ipanema from Stan Getz and Joao Gilberto?
