AM World Cup - Drafting Thread

Post by Listyguy »

Welcome to the AM World Cup Drafting Thread.

Here, post the two artists you would like to “own” for the cup. Based on the demand for teams, the cup will run with either 32 or 64 teams. In the case we only have 32 teams, only the top 8 from the previous cup are guaranteed to return (and their owners have the right to reclaim them). If we get 64, the top 8 becomes the top 16. I will list these teams below and their owners from the last cup. Some owners are no longer part of this forum, so those teams are up for grabs by anyone. I’ve noted that below as well.

If you were the owner of a returning team from the last cup, please indicate if you would like to reclaim them or not, and please only select one other team to own for this cup. Please note that you must submit a list of eight songs that you would like to use for the artist’s matchups. Make sure they are listed in order (i.e. song 1 will be used for the artist’s first match up). In the event of a 32-team cup, the lists will be shortened to 7 and the song listed in the 1st position will be ignored. You are allowed to change the list up until the match up starts. It is not clear yet whether amendments to lists will be public or not. If you fail to submit a list within a week, the artist will be available to the public again.

I will update this post regularly with what teams have been taken and who I need lists from. Also if your name is next to any team listed above and you fail to claim them within a week, they will become available for anyone to take. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

Teams taken: Jimi Hendrix (Listyguy), Radiohead (ordinaryperson), Pink Floyd (ordinaryperson), Bjork (Sweepstakes Ron), Nina Simone (bonnielaurel), David Bowie (TimmyWing), The Clash (TimmyWing), Neil Young (Honorio), Elvis Costello (Honorio), Bob Dylan (Jirin), Townes Van Zandt* (Jirin), The Beatles (Nick), Nick Cave (notbrianeno), Tom Waits (notbrianeno), Kanye West (hectorthebat), LCD Soundsystem (Nick), Arcade Fire (GucciLittlePiggy), The National (GucciLittlePiggy), Otis Redding (Andre), Talking Heads (Andre), Nick Drake (Listyguy), Stevie Wonder (Toni), Bruce Springsteen (Bang Jan), R.E.M. (Bang Jan), Marvin Gaye (bonnielaurel), Daft Punk (Sweepstakes Ron), Madonna (Maschine_Man)*, Kate Bush (Maschine_Man)*, Leonard Cohen (DocBrown), Wilco (DocBrown), Prince (Toni), The Rolling Stones (hectorthebat)
*Need a list

What, exactly, are one's duties as an owner. Do I just pick the songs and that's it, or do I have to maintain a constant presence during the game?

You just decide the songs. You can choose to edit the song list weekly or set it once and leave it throughout.

It's basically the same as the actual World Cup. Artists are put in pools of 4, with each artist having an "owner". The owner decides what song the artist play in each match, but songs can only be used once (exception: tiebreakers). So each artist will play at least three matches, and the top two from each pool at the point advance to the knockout round. If you want more information feel free to ask and/or check out the threads from the previous Cup (which I posted the links to in the other thread).

Can we make it so you don't see your opponent's choice until after you pick yours? There was a situation in the first cup where people switched songs right before the deadline so their opponents didn't have the opportunity to respond.

I'll reclaim Dylan. And also pick Townes Van Zandt.

Thankyou so much! I searched on this forum "World cup" but only found a cup which only contained world music, and while interesting, was not this.

I've decided to nix the "top 8/16" must return rule. So any team can be taken by anyone, so long as they haven't been taken already.

I call it a World Cup because I use the same format as the FIFA World Cup, with the pools and point system and whatnot.
