By the way, since XO and Niggas in Paris both have the same points, shouldn't they be tied for the number 100 position?

There are more decimals than the one place I'm showing in the results -- there were no exact ties.

I'd written comments about most of my top 20, but I forgot to send them to you!

Beyonce for me is one of those artists whose singles are their best songs. And XO is the best of them all - she sounds so beautifully confident, and that emphatic drum beat is so stirring. And then there's the "I love you like XO" part, which sounds kinda dumb when you think about it. Imagine if you went up to someone you loved and said "I love you like XO". But nonetheless it's so anthemic and a perfect climax to a fantastic love song. #4

It's only recently that I've been getting into electronic music, and for me this is as easy as it gets to enter the fray. The beats are so fun, the strings are so catchy, the bass is so boppy. I can't imagine that there's anybody in the world who could dislike this song - it's so warm and inviting. #5

The poetic apex of a poetic album, "Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst" is one of the most hardhitting songs I think I've ever heard. It's so rare for a rap artist to make a song which is 12 minutes long, let alone one so captivating. Within 12 minutes, we hear three Compton stories - the first, the brother of Dave, who is killed at the end of "Swimming Pools (Drank)". The second, the sister of Keisha from "Keisha's Song" on Section.80, who follows her slain sister into the life of prostitution. The tragedies of gang life in Compton are laid bare - for Dave's brother, the futility yet inescapability of the gangs, which lead to his getting shot at the very end of his verse. For Keisha's sister, the slow fade away as we realise that her unimportant voice is just one amongst many, as she presumably passes away to HIV, after a life filled with desperation, deprivation and irrelevancy. The third story is Kendrick's own - as he realises his ability to relate the stories of Compton to the rest of us. In Dying of Thirst, he realises that he's tired of running - he sees the horror of Compton gang life, with all of its ugliness, and has come to realise that he needs to stop running and be real - to sing about his experiences and make sure that the lost lives of "Sing About Me" live on.

"A house is like a gang or a clique". It begins with a quote from "Paris is Burning", a documentary about the New York ball scene from the 1980s. "This is good", the sample says (I think), behind a simple drum beat. And then the song bubbles into life. And it's so satisfying.

Desire Lines plays on my love of extended codas. The final couple of minutes of that song are utterly perfect, really amazing drumming. That bit at 2:58 when the cymbal crashes down and the coda begins just makes me think, "YES!!"

And my #1 as well!
Jackson wrote: [107] Sufjan Stevens | Impossible Soul

It's probably a cheater's move to consider my favourite song of the decade so far to be a 25:34 minute song, given that it's almost as long as some albums on my albums list, like Rival Dealer and Treats. But to put anything else at #1 would be being untrue to myself - Impossible Soul is for me the foremost achievement of the musical decade. Many a 25 minutes and 34 seconds has been spent "lost in the dream" - going to bed next to shitty phone speakers, waking up to "It's a long life!" for an alarm, sleeping on floors, lying on the grass, headbopping on buses, skipping on streets, chanting at parties. I've listened to it while crying, while laughing, while feeling cheery and while feeling utterly empty. Alone and with friends. Sober and very much not sober. For the last four and a bit years, it's been an utter pleasure to be lost in the dream, but remember - when the song ends, you're back in real life. Better pinch yourself and stand up straight.

I have to say I totally not get these tracks( or at least not find them particuraly good):

I like that description ! I saw Sufjan live just after the release of The Age of Adz and there was 2 unforgettable moments, first the opener, Seven Swans, with Sufjan spreading angel wings as he was singing "Cause he is the Lord".
The 2nd was Impossible Soul, once Sufjan shouted "1 2 3 4" people went completely crazy... I have seen over 200 bands live and seldom have I seen such a sense of complete communion or group transe (and usually the other times would imply Wake Up by Arcade Fire).
That being said it is "only" my #20 of the decade so far because the most melodically and emotionnaly impacting parts of the album are for me the title song (my #3 of the decade so far) and the final of I Want to Be Well... I only have the song as 185 of the decade, but the second half, with the 5/4 rhythm and Sufjan letting some "I'm not fucking around" gushing right from his gut hits me right in the heart and throat every time.

Ha! My biggest moment of crowd communion was also at Arcade Fire, but with Rebellion (Lies) instead. They had just played it, and it was amazing, and then they went off to take a break before doing an encore. Meanwhile the entire crowd (and bear in mind, this is the O2 Arena in London) chanted that final coda part of Rebellion (Lies) for a good 10 minutes while they were backstage. We just didn't stop, it was amazing.

I find Age of Adz as a whole quite tough to listen to because it's middle section is quite...boring. But the first three songs are amazing, and then from about Vesuvius on, it kicks on again, and then of course it ends with Impossible Soul which is awesome for me.

You will find during the rollout that 2010 significantly outperforms, 2014 lags, and 2011-2013 are about equal. It's probably too soon to tell if this is really quality based or just a natural bias toward more established 'classics' that we typically see in our polls.

Surprised this landed so low as well.
[72] Lykke Li | I Follow Rivers
[71] Santigold | Disparate Youth
Nice placements, pleasantly surprised...
[70] Burial | Ashtray Wasp
Yes!!!
[61] Todd Terje | Inspector Norse
Great to see this up high, too.
[55] Julia Holter | Maxim's II
My favorite placement so far. There's definitely a bit of a Rock Bottom feel to this one, imo.
[54] Carly Rae Jepsen | Call Me Maybe

Undeniable, still.
[50] Perfume Genius | Queen
[49] Sia | Chandelier
Two of the best from last year, sorry to see them so low. (?)
[48] Radiohead | Lotus Flower
Don't get it. I know they're Radiohead, but....

[43] The National | England
I'll never get The National.

I noticed that "Laura" by Bat for Lashes did not show up, despite being in AM's all time top 1000 (#38 of the decade), which is kind of a shame because it's rising up pretty high in my all-time list. One morning, I woke up and felt like I needed to listen to "Laura" right away, like it was the only thing that could keep me emotionally stable in that moment.

Still, I have to thank Jackson for organizing this. I'm sorry I couldn't vote, but now I have plenty of listening to do!

This section was pretty split between stuff I think is overrated and songs I voted highly for. I'm thrilled at the placement for "The Words That Maketh Murder", which for some reason didn't get too much critical acclaim apart from the album but for me was a classic upon arrival. Besides Get Lucky I think that's my most listened to track of the last five years, it's such a blast.

Retrograde and Odessa also stand out from this bunch as utterly perfect singles. They'll stand the test of time.

Holocene is probably my least favorite track of the top 100. Can't even get through it. Don't get Bon Iver at all.

I don't really get the whole Vampire Weekend as a highly acclaimed artist thing, but I think at least the voters identified their best cut for this placement.

Btw, man it was fun to pick quotes for the Kanye songs. All of the Lights though? Never really got into that one, and thought for sure Monster and some of the Yeezus tracks would outplace it. Kanye fans still have plenty of fun left

I love Vampire Weekend, but I can't help but feel that "Step" is massively overrated by the critics. Personally I'll take "Diane Young", "Unbelievers", and "Ya Hey" off of "Modern Vampires..." alone over "Step" any day. "Step" is a great song though, but I never understood why it's considered to be THE Vampire Weekend song.

I'm very happy with what songs made the top 20 though!!

So the remaining songs seem to be (highlight for spoilers):

Get Lucky
Midnight City
Video Games
Reflektor
Pyramids
Dancing on My Own
Fuck You!
Runaway
Tightrope
Rolling in the Deep
Oblivion
Bloodbuzz Ohio
Do I Wanna Know?
Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)
Lonely Boy
212
Power
Cold War
Good Intentions Paving Company
Seasons (Waiting on You)

I can't say I even like every single one of these songs, but still, what an excellent group!

2010 isn't my favorite year of the period (I like 2012 better), but I can see why it gets such love. It had more high profile releases than other years (Kanye, Arcade Fire, LCD, National, Janelle Monáe, National), and in all those cases, their 2010 work is considered their best (or only) for this period

One of those two Nationals is supposed to be Deerhunter, I presume.

Wow! it's gonna be close. I think everyone knew which songs would make the Top 5. The real question is "In what order?"

There is one I don't like, One that wouldn't be too high, two pretty good songs I put somewhere in the middle of my Top 100, and one that came very close to winning it all for me!

I'll be happy with whatever wins, but I am on the edge of my seat right now!

Although nobody should be surprised as to what songs made the final 3 (seriously a no brainer), I am surprised that "Oblivion" didn't place higher. I thought it was a sure shot for the top ten.

This is about as close as it gets. The top 3 were separated by only 18 points, or the equivalent of a difference between a 20 and 50 place vote on a single ballot. They've been in these positions in some order since the second ballot was counted.

Thanks for hosting this poll, Jackson.

If I counted correctly 15 songs from my top 130 have made the cut, but only one song from my top 9.

Highest songs I voted for:
4. Lana Del Rey - Video Games (2)
8. Janelle Monáe - Tightrope (22)
10. Adele - Rolling in the Deep (59)
15. Cee-Lo Green - F*** You (10)
19. Arctic Monkeys - Do I Wanna Know? (47)

It may have gotten a bit predictable in the end, but overall I loved this list. One trend that I think should not go overlooked is the fantastic amount of female representation here. If you include songs/bands with important female contribution, it is quite an extensive list...

[249] Joanna Newsom | In California
[248] Iamamiwhoami | Sever
[247] Sky Ferreira | You're Not the One
[245] Sophie | Bipp
[238] Melody's Echo Chamber | I Follow You

[214] Julia Holter | Marienbad
[209] Beach House | Walk in the Park
[208] Sleigh Bells | Tell 'Em
[206] Lana Del Rey | Shades of Cool
[204] Robyn | Call Your Girlfriend
[203] Charli XCX | SuperLove
[200] Royksopp and Robyn | Do It Again
[199] Warpaint | Love is to Die
[197] Julia Holter | Horns Surrounding Me
[195] St. Vincent | Prince Johnny
[193] Chvrches | Recover
[190] tUnE-yArDs | Powa
[188] EMA | California

[136] Beach House | Zebra
[135] Rihanna feat. Calvin Harris | We Found Love
[133] Solange | Losing You
[131] Taylor Swift | Blank Space
[130] Low | Nothing But Heart
[127] The Knife | Full of Fire
[126] Nicki Minaj | Super Bass
[123] Lana Del Rey | West Coast

[10] Adele | Rolling in the Deep
[9] Robyn | Dancing on My Own
[8] Janelle Monáe (feat. Big Boi) | Tightrope
[6] Arcade Fire | Reflektor
[4] Lana Del Rey | Video Games

You could argue removing Arcade Fire, MBV, "White Noise", and "Monster" (which had to go on since Nicki Minaj owns that song) -- even then, this overall made me very happy to see.
