Hey guys I'm envisaging changing the rules once again on the non US/UK - non anglophone quota.

Until now, there has always been an Irish album/song in the "natural" top 15 (Sinnéad in 90, U2 in 91).
In 92 it's very likely that there won't be any non UK-US anglophone album in the top 15. And I think it doesn't matter.

I think we should just nominate one non-anglophone song and album (provided that they get at least two votes);

It wouldn't be fair to have, for example, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen or Neneh Cherry (or later Daft Punk) or any non UK/US act singing in English in the final round just because they're not American or British. After all, if they chose to sing in English, they're on the same market as UK/US performers and they shouldn't push in front of other bands that got more points than them. Whereas qualifying non anglophone bands make more sense.

Sorry for changin the rules along the way but it's difficult to establish rules without experience.
Unless somebody objects ?

comments
[1]Here, In the Mouth of a Desert, Loretta's Scars
[2]My 5th favorite SY album, was #1 at one time...Kim's bass is boomin in this one, the only problem I have with it is the 2nd half goes on a little too long. Save Orange Rolls/Nic fit/Youth Against Fascism/Chapel Hill/Creme Brule for a complimentary EP or the Delux release and it would give Daydream Nation a run for it's money. Sugar Kane, Wish Fulfillment, JC, Drunken Butterfly.
[3]
[4]I'll occasionally skip Everybody Hurts & New Orleans Instrumental, but they're still pretty good. Try Not To Breath, Man on the Moon, Nightswimming.
[5]
[6]CHeck Yo Self
[7]Awesome Butt Rock vocals, Nick & Josh from Queens getting silly.

This is probably my most "testosteroned" EOY list ! (and well, maybe 2 or 3 other RATM songs should be up there given how many times I have listened to them on the past 12 years)

Can Protect Ya Neck make it to next round with "just" 3 #1 votes ?
Tostaky has the greatest French guitar riff ever !
Highly disappointed by some album : Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, Ride, Nick Cave, Bikini Kill...
Part of Slanted & Enchanted has grown on me, I'm still not a big fan of anything beside Summer Babe.
And for some reason, Dirty is the one Sonic Youth album I never seem to find anywhere...

I really really enjoyed this year. A great trilogy of rap albums (The Chronic, Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde and Check Your Head), indie heroes (Dirty, Slanted and Enchanted), female singer-songwriters (Dry, Little Earthquakes), new albums from old artists (Automatic For The People, Henry's Dream, Bone Machine), electronic (Selected Ambient Works 85-92), and shimmering dream pop (Going Blank Again, Shimmering Warm and Bright, Lazer Guided Melodies). What else could you possibly need?

1. Tom Waits - Bone Machine
2. Sonic Youth - Dirty
3. R.E.M. - Automatic For The People
4. Tori Amos - Little Earthquakes
5. Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds - Henry's Dream
6. Ride - Going Blank Again
7. The Pharcyde - Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde
8. Dr. Dre - The Chronic
9. Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92
10. Beastie Boys - Check Your Head
11. Spiritualized - Lazer Guided Melodies
12. PJ Harvey - Dry
13. Bel Canto - Shimmering, Warm and Bright
14. Pavement - Slanted and Enchanted
15. Yo La Tengo - May I Sing With Me

The first five are classics that would stand up well in any year, up until 11 they're all brilliant, and then the last 4 fill up the list.

It will have 4 number one votes come tomorrow! I guess that makes it the "Vapour Trail" of this year in its all-or-nothing vote distribution.

By the way, anyone looking for a list that does not feature the mediocre Automatic for the People at the top should look forward to my list. There were a lot of interesting things going on musically in 1992, and that album wasn't one of them.

Nassim, Qui sème le vent récolte le tempo is from 1991, unlike what the AM3000 says. Both RYM and Wikipedia, and most of all my own CD copy say it is from 1991.

same for "Nouveau Western" which is a 93 song. (RYM & Discogs), and "La Concubine de l'hémoglobone" (1994)

So, if you want you can add a new album and a new songs to your list
And Henrik, maybe you should change the album's date in the AM 3000.

Yeah those songs are on Prose Combat so I don't know why I voted for them already.

Add Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works on the album, and I had forgotten than Heavenly - C is the Heavenly Option has been released this year so you can add it to the song (awesome song, very disappointing album)

No, I jumped over a number. It feels great to have another spot!

Please move 6-15 up one place and as #15 I add "Check My Head".

...I meant
15. Beastie Boys - Check Your Head

Albums

1 | Aphex Twin | Selected Ambient Works 85-92
2 | Spiritualized | Laser-Guided Melodies
3 | Pavement | Slanted and Enchanted
4 | Ride | Going Blank Again
5 | PJ Harvey | Dry
6 | Kool G Rap and DJ Polo | Live and Let Die
7 | Kyuss | Blues for the Red Sun
8 | Moonshake | Eva Luna
9 | Sugar | Copper Blue
10 | Tom Waits | Bone Machine
11 | Pharcyde | Bizarre Ride II The Pharcyde
12 | Stereolab | Peng!
13 | Biosphere | Microgravity
14 | Morphine | Good

16 | Catherine Wheel | Ferment
17 | Swell | ...Well?
18 | Alice in Chains | Dirt

20 | Jesus Lizard | Liar

I went into my listening for 1992 thinking it would be pretty weak, but I found it had a surprising amount of depth. I could see some of the 11-20 albums developing into legitimate favorites. But there's still not much at the top. Aphex Twin passed Spiritualized literally yesterday with a strong listen, but SAW 85-92 still ranks outside my top 100. Anyone who likes SAW should check out Microgravity, which has pretty much the same sound but is oddly obscure.

Songs

1 | Wu-Tang Clan | Protect Ya Neck
2 | Pharcyde | Passin' Me By
3 | Spiritualized | Shine a Light
4 | Pavement | Conduit for Sale!
5 | Aphex Twin | Xtal
6 | Stereo MC's | Connected
7 | Dr. Dre | Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang

16 | Sugar | The Slim
17 | Pavement | Jackals, False Grails…The Lonesome Era
18 | Sugar | If I Can't Change Your Mind
19 | Disco Inferno | Love's Stepping Out
20 | Alice in Chains | Would?
21 | Aphex Twin | Delphium
22 | Manic Street Preachers | Motorcycle Emptiness
23 | Saint Etienne | Avenue
24 | Stereolab | Stomach Worm
25 | Boo Radleys | Lazarus

I liked SAW 85-92 a LOT more than I thought I would. I'm generally ambivalent to electronic/ambient albums, but there was something about it which just clicked. It was like walking through an empty city at night, with these haunting enduringly wistful sounds.

Songs:

1. Tori Amos - Winter
2. Tom Waits - That Feel
3. Tori Amos - Mother
4. Pavement - Jackals, False Grails; The Lonesome Era
5. Sonic Youth - Theresa's Sound World
6. Bel Canto - Mornixuur
7. Ride - Cool Your Boots
8. Morrissey - The National Front Disco
9. Wu Tang Clan - Protect Ya Neck
10. Dr Dre. - Nothing But A 'G' Thang
11. R.E.M. - Nightswimming
12. Arrested Development - Tennessee
13. Spiritualized - Shine A Light
14. Beastie Boys - Pass The Mic
15. Aphex Twin - Schottkey 7th Path
16. Tom Waits - Black Wings
17. Radiohead - Creep
18. The Pharcyde - Otha Fish
19. Beastie Boys - In 3s

I put some extra ones in case some were released last year.
