Acclaimed Music Madness: Round 1B
Acclaimed Music Madness: Round 1B
Welcome to the second voting session for Acclaimed Music Madness. This concludes the first round round and features matches for the Memphis and Detroit regions. This poll will close around 11am EST (4pm GMT) Sunday.
For each matchup, indicate which artist you prefer and then assign that artist a score between one and three using the following scale:
1 - you feel the same about both artists, but have a slight preference for one or the other (e.g., you like both artists but prefer artist A over artist B).
2 - you clearly prefer one artist over the other, but not by a vast margin (e.g., you like one artist and are indifferent to the other).
3 - you like/love one artist and dislike/hate the other.
Please remember to have at least a passing familiarity (i.e., listen to a couple of their songs) with each artist. To accommodate this, I have prepared three-song playlists for each artist which can be accessed via the link at the bottom of the post.

Re: Acclaimed Music Madness: Round 1B
Memphis Region
1) Bob Dylan
16) Steve Reich - 1
Would have been different if this game was held a few months ago, but I've been listening to more Steve Reich lately.
8) Ray Charles - 2
9) The Chemical Brothers
5) R.E.M.
12) Billie Holiday - 1
4) The Rolling Stones
13) Joao Gilberto - 1
6) Michael Jackson - 2
11) Eminem
3) Stevie Wonder - 1
14) The Clash
7) John Coltrane - 3
10) Pink Floyd
2) Kanye West - 2
15) Mike Oldfield
I have clearly either overestimated the popularity of Kanye West on the forum or underestimated the appeal of Mike Oldfield because it looks like Oldfield is killing Kanye thus far.
Detroit Region
1) Radiohead - 2
16) Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan
The production sounds a little too slick on the Nusrat stuff I've heard. Like Sol Hoopii from the other Round 1, it looks like Ali Khan will not get a single vote.
8) OutKast - 3
9) Muddy Waters
I just can't get into the blues. Too much guitar.
5) The Who
12) The Beach Boys - 2
4) Johnny Cash - 1
13) Aphex Twin
6) James Brown - 2
11) M.I.A.
3) Bob Marley and the Wailers
14) Lucinda Williams - 2
I wish that I liked Lucinda Williams more if only so I could put a 3 against Bob Marley. Maybe next round. . .
7) David Bowie - 1
10) Elvis Costello
2) Marvin Gaye
15) Mahalia Jackson - 1
16) Steve Reich - 1
