Random Rules August - Submissions!
Random Rules August - Submissions!
Whoa! Look at that! Another month, another first Monday! It's time for another edition of Random Rules!
All you need to do is submit your list of 10 random songs - the next ten that come up via the random generator on your entire music library. We'll pull them all together then start the next part in a couple days (48 hours or 10 lists, whichever comes last), then start the elimination process to create the Random Rules Jukebox for August.

America - A Horse with No Name
Will Smith - Party Starter
P!nk - U + Ur Hand

I'm curious, why do you have music in your library you don't particularly like?Luke JR68 wrote: This actually pretty decent, considering what normally gets thrown my way... Aside from a streak of 4 unfortunate selections, I can live with this

Re: Random Rules August - Submissions!
The ones I dislike are generally songs from a few years ago, back when I was a mindless consumer of pop music (like the ones that get mentioned so often on this site ), and even though I do not enjoy them now and probably will not in the future, it would be a waste of the time and energy i spent obtaining them if I just deleted them. My library is, aside from the 3500+ songs that currently grace my iPod, primarily filled with music I intend to investigate later down the line, and likewise, I figure some of my old passions may have some use in the future, even if I currently don't know what that use is...GucciLittlePiggy wrote:I'm curious, why do you have music in your library you don't particularly like?Luke JR68 wrote: This actually pretty decent, considering what normally gets thrown my way... Yep. Thanks!Luke JR68 wrote:I hope that answered the question to your satisfaction
I don't use iTunes (or whatever it is you're using). I just have a large playlist on Spotify I use, so when I decide I don't really like a song anymore I can just select and delete. Unfortunately, using just Spotify means I will never have any Beatles show up for Random Rules.

Re: Random Rules August - Submissions!
That makes sense, it doesn't seem reasonable to keep questionable material in a playlist you frequently useGucciLittlePiggy wrote:Yep. Thanks!Luke JR68 wrote:I hope that answered the question to your satisfaction

Considering how well the Beatles have done and continue to do with Random Rules, I think we can survive with them being ineligible for a list or two

So as of the moment, Otis is 4 for 4 with his nominations (ie they have all made it to the Jukebox)... I'm kinda curious to see whether his streak will continueBrad wrote: 2. Otis Redding - Rock Me Baby

The Oh Hellos - The Lament Of Eustace Scrubb
Joshua Radin & Schuyler Fisk - Paperweight
Passenger - Things That Stop You Dreaming
Little Comets - Coalition of One
Magenta - Science Fiction, Double Feature (Reprise)
of Montreal - Fugitive Air
Freedom Fry - With The New Crowd
Little Dragon - Blinking Pigs
Houses - The Beauty Surrounds
Dizzee Rascal - Fix Up, Look Sharp
You might think, from this list, that I only listened to music from this decade. Kind of the anti-Bruce.

11 lists already (and two Django Django songs!), so we'll keep this open another 24 hours before moving to the elimination portion of our show...
Re: Random Rules August - Submissions!
Minor Threat - Bottled Violence
Air - Le Voyage de Pénélope
Tortoise - Swung From the Gutters
Born Ruffians - Foxes Mate For Life
The Flaming Lips - One More Robot/Sympathy 3000-21
Beastie Boys - High Plains Drifter
Unwound - Treachery
The White Stripes - There's No Home For You Here
Mos Def - History ft Talib Kweli
The Gossip - Standing in the Way of Control (Soulwax Nite Version)
I'm really happy it's the Soulwax version of Standing in the Way of Control, I don't listen to many remixes but that one really is the definitive version (maybe the fact that it was the unofficial Skins theme song kinda helps... or just that Soulwax is the best thing to come out of Belgium after the comics, the beer and Jacques Brel)
