Bob Dylan - This would be a difficult matchup if Dylan wasn't one of my absolute favorites
Prince - The "where is Jimi?" match
Bruce - Tough call, but the Boss has a longer zenith, and more great albums
VU - The weakest match of the day, my New York heart extends a vote narrowly to Lou Reed and co

No offense to Miles, but I'm kind of surprised he made it to the final eight. I guess there are a lot more jazz fans on this board than I thought.

This was a pretty interesting set of match-ups in terms of the similarities and differences of the two acts in each one.

Bob Dylan (not even close. While I love REM as much as the next music buff, I had to compare each of these acts in how well they place in the rankings of their respective genres. Dylan is the king of the singer-songwriters by a wide margin, whereas, for me, REM was surpassed as being the masters of 80s jangle pop/indie rock by their British counterparts, the Smiths.)

Prince (much like sonofsamiam pointed out, all of these match ups are, in the end, practically apples and oranges, two artists in two entirely different styles and genres of music. It ultimately comes down to which does one prefer more. For me, this one was pretty close, but much as I love Miles very much and he is just on the cusp of my top ten favorite acts, Prince on a given day could easily land in my Top 5.)

Stevie Wonder (Like the last match up, this one was super close. Two all-time great American icons, musical and otherwise, but, in the end, Stevie at his finest is just better than the Boss at his best.)

The VU (not as hard for me as the last two were. Elvis is one of the indisputable pop greats, but the VU are, for me, on a whole other level. One of my Top Five for sure.)

As an added note, I am noticing the polarizing nature of these two acts throughout the tournament, as they have often narrowly beat out their competitors each time. It seems so fitting that they face each other at this point. Wonder who will beat the other at this point...

1. Bob Dylan (Minnesota)
Not close.

12. Miles Davis (Illinois)
I really don't like Prince, and I like a couple of the Miles albums that I've heard. My theory is that when you've got like 30 albums ranked, everyone will find at least a couple of his albums good.

2. Bruce Springsteen (New Jersey)
Not close really.

6. The Velvet Underground (New York)
The thing that bothers me about Elvis is that a lot of the time he just took great songs and did covers. I'm with Scaruffi on this one.

1. Bob Dylan (Minnesota)
Tough matchup, R.E.M. would have beat most others in this round.

4. Prince (Minnesota)
Easiest matchup for me.

2. Bruce Springsteen (New Jersey)
Close contest, but Bruce pulls away in the fourth quarter of his career.

6. The Velvet Underground (New York)
When it's close, I'll go with the guys who actually wrote their own songs.
