AMF Chart Week 18 2014

Post by Setherex »

Welcome to Week 18 of the AMF Chart! Happy June, of course, to everyone feverishly refreshing the front page.

Here are your rankings for Week 17 (number of weeks on the chart so far in parentheses):
1. The War on Drugs - "Under Pressure" (8)
2. The Black Keys - "Weight of Love" (2)
3. Lana Del Rey - "West Coast" (3)
4. Swans - "A Little God in My Hands" (8)
5. The Black Keys - "Fever" (7)
6. Future Islands - "Seasons (Waiting on You)" (8)
7. tUnE-yArDs - "Water Fountain" (9)
8. Conor Oberst - "Zigzagging Toward the Light" (1)
8. Di-Rect - "You & I" (1)
8. Owen Pallett - "The Riverbed" (1)
8. Röyksopp & Robyn - "Monument" (1)
8. Sharon Van Etten - "Tarifa" (1)
13. Greyhounds - "Yours to Steal" (1)
13. Owen Pallett - "The Sky Behind the Flag" (1)
15. Parquet Courts - "Sunbathing Animal" (1)
15. Sylvan Esso - "Coffee" (1)
17. Jeremy Messersmith - "Ghost" (4)
18. Fennesz - "Liminality" (5)
19. Ben Frost - "Venter" (1)
20. The Common Linnets - "Calm After the Storm" (2)

Well then. Since there's a five-way tie for 8th place, 12 songs went through to this week. And I highly doubt we've ever had five newcomers make it through to the next round, let alone have a song that's almost been swept off the charts a few times get the top rank sporadically. I don't understand you people and your voting habits. But they're unpredictable, I suppose.

2014 Chart-toppers by week (number of weeks atop of the chart, if more than 1, are counted next to the name):
1. Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra - "Fuck Off Get Free (For the Island of Montreal)"
2. Damien Jurado - "Silver Timothy" / Warpaint - "Love Is to Die"
3. Warpaint - "Love Is to Die" (2)
4. Damien Jurado - "Silver Timothy" (2)
5. Young Fathers - "Get Up"
6. St. Vincent - "Digital Witness" / Warpaint - "Love Is to Die" (3)
7. Sun Kil Moon - "Richard Ramirez Died Today of Natural Causes" / Warpaint - "Love Is to Die" (4)
8. The War on Drugs - "Red Eyes" / Warpaint - "Love Is to Die" (5)
9. Sun Kil Moon - "Richard Ramirez Died Today of Natural Causes" (2)
10. Sun Kil Moon - "Richard Ramirez Died Today of Natural Causes" (3)
11. Todd Terje feat. Bryan Ferry - "Johnny and Mary"
12. Sun Kil Moon - "Richard Ramirez Died Today of Natural Causes" (4) / Todd Terje feat. Bryan Ferry - "Johnny and Mary" (2)
13. Sun Kil Moon - "Richard Ramirez Died Today of Natural Causes" (5)
14. tUnE-yArDs - "Water Fountain"
15. Todd Terje feat. Bryan Ferry - "Johnny and Mary" (3)
16. The Black Keys - "Weight of Love"
17. The War on Drugs - "Under Pressure"

Here is this week's 17-song Spotify chart (with one remaining song in a Grooveshark link, and two in Youtube clips):

The Black Keys - "Weight of Love"
Here is your 2014 AMF Chart playlist of all songs on the chart so far:

Thank you all for voting and nominating in the masses last week! Another friendly reminder to nominate other voters' songs if you want them up on the chart! Songs have a better chance of making it if they get more nomination support from others :)

Best of voting! :D

Can we start voting for 10 songs per week? I'm half-kidding, but in all seriousness, the musical tastes of the nominators are pretty incredible. I'm finding myself unable to vote for songs I know will be in the upper echelons of my Top 100 of 2014, simply because the competition is so strong. I'm appreciating the AMF chart even more than I assumed I would in the very beginning...

Would You Fight For My Love? is all up in my ears this week. I'm loving it to death.

Edit: I like the Ben Khan song more and more each listen.

I would like to nominate Ulrich Forman - I Got You (Under My Skin)

Nomination "Bad Self Portraits" by Lake Street Drive. And I'll second Sketch's nomination of My Silver Lining.

I agree about the nominations and the competition! Soon I will have more favorite songs from 2014 than I have from the whole 2013. But I don't really need more than 5 votes. If I have more than 5 songs I want to vote for, I will give priority to the newest songs, as the older have already gotten my votes, maybe even several times. However, if I really like a song I will always vote for it and hope it gets to the Hall of Fame.

So this is the 10th week for "Water Fountain". Am I right to think that it needs to make the top 10 to become a member of the Hall of Fame?

Yes, I would say so too.

And I second the nomination for My Silver Lining from First Aid Kit (currently #54 in my preliminary top 100 2014 songs).

This is my approach as well, but I could also easily vote for 10 every week. Lots of great stuff.

Also my understanding of it.

Lots of songs with 4 votes this week. Seems like a trend...

Just a note, since there appears to be less than 10 nominations in this week's thread so far, if there are fewer song nominations than open spots for the upcoming week, then I'll just take the remaining song nominations from last week's thread.

Quick nomination for Sturgill Simpson's moving remake of When In Rome's 'The Promise' (should'a nominated this one over that Turtle song last week...)

Ha haaa!

But hey, it's K-pop.

The weirdest thing is that I found the Catallena song through a RYM search. The song is on the top 100 singles of 2014. Well ahead of Black Keys' "Fever". I was just trying to be hip, you know.
