Songs and Albums of 1973 Poll
Re: Songs and Albums of 1973 Poll
Just realised I haven't seen votes from Honorio or Jackson. I can recalculate if you want to get your votes in.

Not that it's any of my business, but I think it's already been so long that the results should be final. But of course it's your call ultimately.DaveC wrote:Just realised I haven't seen votes from Honorio or Jackson. I can recalculate if you want to get your votes in.
Anyway, thanks for your work! I know it's a lot of work. More difficult than I expected when I counted the top 50 songs of 1970.

Can't complain with those results! New York Dolls getting in the final is a great bonus. Glad Time got in as well - much prefer it over Money.
I'm urprised Elton John didn't get any songs into the top 15, although Goodbye Yellow Brick Road did come close. I thought he'd have been a shoe-in for sure. Probably more refreshing to have a normally overlooked track like Gimmie Danger in there though - almost everything off Raw Power is a stone cold classic.

Re: Songs and Albums of 1973 Poll
I actually predicted that my fav Elton John songs wouldn't make it cos the votes would split so much, but GYBR would. Actually what ended up happening was a total split. But at least he has two songs in the top 150 previously. Would have hoped a couple of more though.TimmyWing wrote:I'm urprised Elton John didn't get any songs into the top 15, although Goodbye Yellow Brick Road did come close. Re: Songs and Albums of 1973 Poll
Yes, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (the album) is the Cosmo's Factory of 1973: an album with many favorites, but with no clear agreement on what the best song is. So many votes, no results, but it's no surprise to see it do well in the album list. Besides, this isn't exactly the last chance John has to get a song in.PlasticRam wrote:I actually predicted that my fav Elton John songs wouldn't make it cos the votes would split so much, but GYBR would. The correlation between this poll lists and the AM year lists top 15 is 10 for albums and 8 for songs. 7 different songs is quite a nice difference, with Alladin Sane and Gimme Danger not even being Bubbling Under.
Re: Songs and Albums of 1973 Poll
Very happy to see A Wizard, A True Star get in. Everything else here is pretty much the usual suspects. The only high ranked albums that tend not to make it are the non-lyrical ones like Tubular Bells.

Running a poll for the first time was certainly a learning experience.

Re: Songs and Albums of 1973 Poll
The original "Stir It Up" is from 1967 (lasting 3'30) but I voted for the version that first appeared in 1973 on the "Catch a Fire" album (lasting 5'35) that included a wonderful wah-wah guitar solo.
DaveC, I noticed that including my votes does not change too much the Top 15 albums or songs (only pushes Reed and Cale ahead Roxy Music).

Re: Songs and Albums of 1973 Poll
As Honorio said, his votes wouldn't change which albums & songs made the top 15 cut. Probably just as well as such a late change would no doubt be controversial.
Hoping to include your ballot next time Honorio.

No problem at all, DaveC. In fact I'm going to include my 1974 votes right now...
Re: Songs and Albums of 1973 Poll
Just found a song from a band called Banco del mutuo soccorso that I found enjoyable upon first listen.
The title is "La Città Sottile."
I wonder if any of the other forum participants have heard of this song and enjoyed it.

Re: Songs and Albums of 1973 Poll
It's one of those Italian prog rock bands from the early seventies, which is a specialty in itself. It's a good tip.
