Yes, when we did a 1950s and 1960s poll. In 2010. It's a bit late to revise those results, though. We should be cycling back to the '60s soon enough. What fun that'll be.

No time to properly edit my list of February of 2009. I wish I would have found time enough to listen to your lists (many of them look fantastic, especially Dan's) and include some of your choices in my own list.
A note for JimmyJazz: my #4 song was the 'Live at Monterey' version of Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness," recorded in June of 1967 but not released until August of 1970. Since the song was originally released (in a studio version) by Otis in November in 1966 and it is supposed to collect a lot of votes (or at least I hope so) for the 1966 poll that probably we will do in August of 2015 it's up to you to use this vote or not. If you prefer not to use it you can simply move the rest of my list one place up. Many thanks in advance.

Technically, since it is a live recording and not the studio version, and because it was released in this year, I'll probably tally it.

Yes, we had a 1960s poll in 2010.
Those were the results of the songs of this poll released in the 1960s:
- Smokey Robinson & The Miracles | The Tears of a Clown, 57 points on the 1967 Poll, position 29, 7 voters
- Sly & the Family Stone | Everyday People, 83points on the 1968 Poll, position 18, 11 voters
- Simon & Garfunkel | The Boxer, 66 points on the 1969 Poll, position 26, 12 voters
- Toots & The Maytals | Pressure Drop, 43 points on the 1969 Poll, position 41, 5 voters
- Syl Johnson | Is It Because I'm Black?, 30 points on the 1969 Poll, position 64, 3 voters

The others songs mentioned in this thread as presumably released in the 1960s did not received any vote in the 1960s Polls.

Have heard more than this, as one would hope, but just putting in the minimum this time, assuming five is ok for a list:

Albums:

1. Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
2. Curtis Mayfield - Curtis
3. The Stooges - Fun House
4. Neil Young - After the Gold Rush
5. The Velvet Underground - Loaded

Songs:

1. Simon and Garfunkel - Bridge Over Troubled Water
2. Curtis Mayfield - Move On Up
3. The Stooges - 1970
4. Neil Young - Southern Man
5. Curtis Mayfield (Don't Worry) If There's a Hell Below, We're All Going to Go

The Who's take on Summertime Blues from Live at Leeds and Big Yellow Taxi (unapologetically one of my favorites of hers somehow) just missed but I couldn't be sure as a new yearly listmaker that they'd go next. Anyways this was just my attempt at the last minute to get Curtis Mayfield to move (on) up in the standings.

In 2010 the question arose (precisely raised by me) on whether the date of publication of this album was 1969 or 1970. Honorio decided that 1969. I remember Mindrocker disagreed.... and I think he was right. Honorio later acknowledged they were probably more reliable those sources that dated this album in 1970. In fact, I have the box set Texas Troubadour and says in the liner notes that is a 1970 album.

They show 3 other albums on the label released AFTER the Van Zandt, but still in 1969.

Here's the clincher though. The album is listed as a current release in a September 1969 issue of Billboard.

So telll the guy who write the liner notes on that box set that he's wrong.

Yes, it was some degree of controversy then but for the 1969 Poll the third album of Townes Van Zandt was accepted, it ended at #32 and received 54 points from 7 different voters.

The 1970 album version of I bet You is significantly different (and more than two minutes longer) than the single version, hence the (slightly) different title of the song.

I hadn't considered 1970 a strong contender for best year of all time until making this list. Most of the biggest artists of the 60s and the 70s had releases this year, making it a unique mix of artists a little past their prime but still great (Kinks, Beach Boys, Velvet Underground) and artists that were just becoming great (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Curtis Mayfield). Also, a crazy mix of styles with jazz, prog, krautrock, funk, and early metal all in vogue at the same time.

My best discovery of the month by far was T2's "It'll All Work Out in Boomland". I can't believe it's not a more famous album, as it's hard to picture anyone who likes psych/hard rock/prog not really enjoying it.

Wow...171 points and no final round. In most of the 80s polls, 100 points was almost a guaranteed top 15.

Wow, I had thought that Led Zeppelin and Bowie would be like the Cure and Prince from our last poll, and clean up throughout the decade. But maybe not...

I had not heard of T2 before. I just started listening to "No More White Horses" and "Morning" Both are quite enjoyable and I expect that they will both be growers. Thanks!

You'll see a lot of them in the final poll, but I think Neil Young is probably going to have the most albums in the final round. He released a classic in basically every year of the decade. And (not to bash Prince, the Cure, or the 80s) a lot of the years of the 70s are infinitely deeper than the 80s.

I found it interesting that Black Sabbath / Black Sabbath / 180 / 5 made it to the final round with only five votes (average vote strength was very high at 36) while the following will not make the final round despite greater breadth of support:
16| Exuma / Exuma / 171 / 7
17| Abraxas / Santana / 156 / 12
18| All Things Must Pass / George Harrison / 142 / 16
20| III / Led Zeppelin / 94 / 15
21| Les Stances a Sophie / The Art Ensemble of Chicago / 91 / 6
22| In Rock / Deep Purple / 88 / 8
24| The Man Who Sold the World / David Bowie / 74 / 6
26| Live at Leeds / The Who / 71 / 8
26| Morrison Hotel / The Doors / 71 / 7
28| American Beauty / Grateful Dead / 69 / 9

It's funny/stupid, but I've been missing the '80s badly during this month's '70s poll. Well, I've got a year to get the heck over it...

Yes, I am working on the top 100 Rock albums of 1970 for DDD, and that one is gonna make the list. Has very good numbers on RYM (3.94 with over 800 ratings). I never heard of it either until last week.

Agreed. Though perhaps not as iconic, entries 16-30 seem way more interesting to me. Mainly I'm bummed that Exuma just missed.

No surprise that the old faves like Sweet Baby James and John Barleycorn Must Die didn't make the top 40 on our list. I would be interested in seeing an extended list of the top 100 if time permits. For those who haven't listened to either of these gems, I suggest starting with John Barleycorn Must Die because Sweet Baby James may be a bit too mellow for most of you.

Nope. Not at all. The album that is being counted is Diana Ross's Everything is Everything from the exact same year which happens to have the same name as the Hathaway LP. It was bonnielaurel's #2 album, and thus received exactly 40 points.

Of course, Henry. I will do that after I tally and roll out the songs list, which will be immediately extended.

Cool that "Theme de Yoyo" is top 5 and "Child in Time" is top 10, but how the hell did "Move on Up" not make the cut??

Did my list end up being counted?

Although it's severely after the fact, I did make another edit to my song list. For some reason, I thought Matthews' Southern Comfort's wistful, hauntingly beautiful version of "Woodstock" was released in 1971. Since it would've been #2 on my list for 1970, and I do refer back to the lists I post, I threw it in there for my own reference once I found out otherwise. Obviously, it wouldn't have made any difference in the overall results.

I, too, am thrilled to see "Theme de Yoyo" and "Child in Time" make the cut. Conversely, I was somewhat stunned to see my #1 "My Sweet Lord" miss out, since I saw it making a number of lists. Oh well: it was more of another personal favorite rooted deeply in my youth than anything else, so I definitely understand.

Not me, I never even heard of the Yoyo thing before. I listened to it on youtube, it's not my kind of thing, to say the least.

Okay, everyone. I edited the albums list above so that it now displays a fuller list of every album that received at least 10 points. I will expand the songs list later, but for now, I am going to get the 1971 poll thread started so people can start posting lists if they want to. I am also going to get a general thread for the 1970s poll started that will display the Top 15s for each year just for quick reference.

Thanks for moving these polls along so expeditiously. Great job!
