Killer Record from 1948
Killer Record from 1948
My girlfriend Diane turned me on to this blockbuster the other day.
Re: Killer Record from 1948
Not one comment yet. I sent an MP3 of this out to all of my music buddies (about 60 people) and 7-8 of them replied that they loved the record and that it was great. Must be a generational thing. I'm 56 and most of the people on my mailing list are older than me, a lot of them are in their early 70s now. I guess this type of record just doesn;t do anything for someone in their 30s or younger.

It definitely has a nice groove to it. I for one am quite a fan of vocal jazz/blues music. I've studied a lot of it in my coursework.
Here's a couple examples that I really enjoy that you should check out.

I don't see blues and jazz to be that closely related. The jazz stuff is a lot closer to traditional pop than it is to blues IMO. The songs you posted are standards that people like Sinatra and Tony Bennett sing.Mattceinicram wrote:It definitely has a nice groove to it. I for one am quite a fan of vocal jazz/blues music. Well sure. Jazz and blues are very different genres, but sometimes jazz incorporates blues characteristics into their sound, like what you posted. The two artists I posted are known for doing that as well, although maybe the examples I gave you didn't really demonstrate that.

I've never heard anything by Ella Fitgerald that sounded bluesy at all. Her biggest influence was a white girl, Connee Boswell of the Boswell Sisters. Very good singer, but not bluesy.Mattceinicram wrote:Well sure. Jazz and blues are very different genres, but sometimes jazz incorporates blues characteristics into their sound, like what you posted.
