Our favorite youtube videos

Post by Henrik »

I can't get enough of this...
I hope this thread will become popular, but too many youtube videos can make threads heavy to load, so please post only one video per post, or use url links if you want to link to several videos.

Unlike the videos above, this one isn’t humorous or fun. But it’s one of my favourite fan-made music videos. I think there’s something special about good fan-made videos, because they are often created straight from the heart. There are fans who choose a song and then use footage of one of their favourite films/series/ballets/operas/contemporary dance scenes to create a well-edited music video that captures the mood of the film or other medium. Others listen to a song by one of their favourite artists and feel inspired to craft a visual depiction of the song… a depiction that sometimes turns out to be even better than the original music video. Gabe Askew’s fan-made video of Grizzly Bear’s “Two Weeks” is an example of this.

Piano and voice were all this song ever needed.

A recent live reinvention of a highlight from Ekstasis.

Because Lou Reed had an awesome wife.

Lots of cover artists on YouTube poorly reimagining stuff that is all too popular, but this one I enjoyed:

For those who do not speak Spanish, skip the first jokes, and watch from 1:30.

I like both Queen and Kanye West's music, but I found this video funny enough to share.
There are two versions. For the first one, you need to enter Youtube.

A friend who doesn't like the flute being used in pop music made me listen to this today. Made me laugh, and I had to post it somewhere, so I'm posting it here. Personally I don't mind the flute. I don't even mind one of my favourite songs from the 80s being shittyfluted like this...

And these aren't mashups, but they're epic anyways: Bruce Springsteen and R.E.M.

While the debate about the eligibility of video reviews continues, here's a guy who I think you guys will at least enjoy watching. He reviews both pop songs and classic one-hit wonders. Here's one hardcore music nerds will appreciate, about Dexys Midnight Runners of "Come On Eileen" fame.

A heart-wrenching, 225-person choir cover of "Black Hole Sun" in honor of Chris Cornell. Brought me to tears.

Gonna revive this thread to include this catchy Portuguese song I just heard. Think you guys might enjoy it. Almost competed for Portugal at Eurovision in '85 (it finished fourth in the national final) but more recently a prominent Portuguese radio station brought it back to prominence through a viral campaign called #UmbadaNeverForget, which made the (compelling) argument that it should've been the actual representative. The movement actually caught the attention of singer/songwriter Jorge Fernando, who was proud and humbled by the love for his song and came to the radio station to sing it with the hosts. Maybe if they sent this, Portugal wouldn't have finished second-to-last that year, but hey, we'll never know. For now, enjoy! If you like Graceland, you'll like this.
