R.I.P. Gilles Verlant

The guy who wrote some really good books on pop culture, notably the "3000 Rock Songs" with Thomas Caussé has passed away...He wrote a splendid reference book on Serge Gainsbourg...Apparently, he fell down his stairs...Sad but true...

I know the guy from the eighties TV programmes "Ligne Rock", Génération 80", and "Ligne Rock", all on RTBF, the French language Belgian National Television station. Always interesting to watch, always funny and light-hearted too.
Sad to see him go.

That's sad news indeed. He was in my opinion one of the most competent French critic that could be found. He also worked in his time for Ouï FM, one of the best French radio in a rather desolate radio landscape if you want my opinion. I discovered many new songs and albums thanks to him.

Hope the inclusion of the Discothèque parfaite de l'odyssée du rock, which he co-wrote, and that of the Discothèque parfaite de la chanson française, which he supervised, will allow part of his legend to survive through this website...
