A yearly chart on a daily basis

Post by Henrik »

I'm feeling nostalgic today. Anyone remember this old game?

I was able to find all threads. I think it was one of the more entertaining games we've had, with great great shows. I can definitely recommend you to read these threads (or at least pick a sample).

1951-1956 + rules
1957-1961
1962-1965
1966-1969
1970-1974
1975-1978
1980-1984
1985-1988
1989-1991
1992-1995
1996-1998
1999-2001
2002-2003

Sadly the game didn't continue with 2004, but perhaps someone would be willing to do it now?

The last top 10 (2003):

10.(NEW) Jay-Z – 99 Problems
9. (1) (2 years) Queens of the Stone Age – No One Knows
8. (7) (2 years) LCD Soundsystem – Losing My Edge
7. (8)( 9 years) Pulp – Common People
6. (NEW) The White Stripes – Seven Nation Army
5. (10) (2 years) Johnny Cash – Hurt
4. (NEW) Beyonce – Crazy In Love
3. (6) (3 years) The Strokes – Last Nite
2. (NEW) Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Maps
1. (NEW) Outkast – Hey Ya!

Hey, Henrik, wonderful thread, it brings memories for the old times, that good old games of the old forum.

Of course I would volunteer if this game comes back. Of course I will do 2011 (then I wanted to do 1961, 1971, 1981, 1991 and 2001 but in the end I did different years because of availability). But I got no letters left (I've been DJ Honorious in 1961, DJ Honoris in 1972, DJ Hono in 1981, DJ Hon in 1990 and DJ H in 2000). Only DJ this time?

The only thing about this thread that made me a little sad was to see that a lot of AMers lost somewhere along the road during these years (that game happened in 2008-2009, so almost 5 years ago). Only 6 of the ones that participated then are still active in the actual Forum: Henrik, Stephan, Nicolas, John, Moonbeam, Lonesome Panda (now Nassim), Vanilla Path (now VanillaFire1000 or so I suppose) and me. Because I'm not sure is AJackson is "our" Jackson.

But a lot of the other people that participated then are not even registered in the Forum now (correct me if I'm wrong, maybe you simply changed your name), including Rune (that funny Norwegian), Stammer, Paul (who had an excellent blog about country music), tfguenter (from Berlin), Slush (last time he was living in Washington DC, isn't it?), Jonah (the Zappa fan), Penguin or Mismaiome (that probably was behind other funny names too, like in this game Fishnetmethyst or EpilepticalTraumatizedAbductedMisanthropyc&SelfCenteredGoose, I always suspected that he was really Sinder Velvin from Romania). And of course Netjade now registered on the Forum as Jade Palooka that made an only appearance on a demographic thread. We miss you (and I seize the opportunity to say I'm sorry for some comments I made about some of the shocking photographs you used to post, it's obvious that you only wanted to shake the Forum when it was getting too tedious).

Anyway, all of you (and some others like schleuse from Texas, Jacek from Poland, Anthony from Canada and many others), why don't you come here even now and then if only to say hi?

I'd definitely be up for this. Would you consider starting over?

Great! I was thinking about continuing from where we left, but if lots of people want to do it over again, then why not.

Honorio, as usual you summed up my thoughts.

Dear H, it's not that I don't miss you and the rest of the band. Quite the contrary. It's just that too many records had ripped the fleshy parts out of my system over the last couple of years. But I'm feeling slightly better now. Started relistening to Rolly Stolie's Exile On Main Street and Kylie's Rhythm Of Love again. Cheers and heads up, your nj...

Ha. I remember when I first found AMF, and I scrolled back on the goldmine that was all the threads that there had been in the past. The Beatles v. Dylan arguments etc etc...and the one name that stuck out was Sinder Velvin! He was quite a firebrand if i remember correctly?

I'll do it. Are we staying in this thread or making a new one?

This looks like fun, but beacause the original game was played five years ago, maybe a restart is better than continuing? Though either way is fine by me.

Of course it would be fun to start over, but I'm worried that once again it wouldn't run to the end.

Maybe it's indeed best to start in 2004 to see if there is enough interest to play the whole game again.

I've been taking a peek at some of these polls that were compiled from the old forum, and it seems like some of the special ones would be a good deal of fun to do once the new update occurs (Survivor and this one look especially promising) :D
Does this sound interesting to anyone else (or would it just clash with the 70s Polls/Random Rules/Moderately Acclaimed)?

It wouldn't clash to much, because only one person at a time has to actively do something in this game. So when you take up one round of this you probably won't have to do anything here for weeks te come afterwards, except reading and listening to other peoples entries of course.

Thank you for the info Rob, that was one facet of the game that I wasn't solid on.
