What song do you have on repeat right now?
What song do you have on repeat right now?
I figure this has happened to me often enough for me to make a thread about it.
There are some songs you like. And then there are other songs--whether it's the first time or the 20th time you've heard them--which hit you in such a way, and end so quickly, that you've just got to put them on repeat.
Currently for me it's "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" by The Smiths. I've been listening to them a lot lately but I'm obsessed with this particular track right now.
I wonder if people have the same kind of experience with other songs?

Re: Which song do you have on repeat right now?
It's ironic that the song you used as an example was "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others" by The Smiths, since a song I can never let pass by on my I-Pod without repeating it at least 3-5 more times is "Big Mouth Strikes Again." The bridge that begins with the frantic drums that lead into Marr's guitar gets me every time.
Re: Which song do you have on repeat right now?
I've been on a "Forever Changes" (Love) kick lately - particularly "Maybe the People Would Be the Times or Between Clark and Hilldale", "Alone Again Or" and "You Set The Scene." Nothing new, but still sounds fresh to me.

Does everyone have an abnormal addiction to a random track off "The Queen is Dead? Because a few months ago, I swear I listened to "Frankly Mr. Shankly" a good hundred times.
As for right now, "Punk Weight" by Death Grips.

It's usually new music that I put on repeat, unless it's an older album I hear for the first time. Right now the music video I watch at least a few times every day is Janelle Monae's "Q.U.E.E.N." Makes me so excited for her upcoming album.
Re: Which song do you have on repeat right now?
Right now 2 of them: And I Love Her - The Beatles (a very underrated song by the Fab Four in my opinion) and Lose Yourself To Dance - Daft Punk.

Re: Which song do you have on repeat right now?
I have been trying to discover new music lately, so I havent really been replaying songs. I have been listening to the Beatles so I am definitely getting a bunch of their songs stuck in my head. Such as off of Rubber Soul, 'Norwegian wood' and 'Michelle'. But every time I go thru my Beatles collection I have different songs and tunes running thru my head for days and weeks at a time. That should say something about their talent, right? Because it is not really like that for alot of artists that I listen to.
Anyway, I could definitely replay 'Hotel California' many times if given the chance. Also, replaying either Pantera or Godsmack songs always gets me a little pumped up.

I love that one - possibly my favourite on RAM alongside Doin' it Right. The album itself I found a little underwhelming but there are some great tracks off there.Henrik wrote:Daft Punk - Lose Yourself to Dance

More from this year:
Anais Mitchell - Philip's Lady
Ocean Colour Scene - We Don't Look In The Mirror
If I made that top 20 in the Albums of 2013 thread today instead of yesterday, Ocean Colour Scene would be in my top 5. Their album Paintings reminds me of The Life Pursuit. I had that song stuck in my head without even remembering which album it was from.

Re: Which song do you have on repeat right now?
A few weeks ago, the 1984 poll (and a "Kid A" kick) was dominating my listening. Now, the site update has taken over, as my top two on Spotify are currently Kanye's "POWER" and M83's "Midnight City".Listyguy wrote:"Bad" by U2 is my current #1 on Spotify, but I've also been listening to "Fade to Black", "Idioteque" and "The National Anthem" a lot lately.
I've also been listening to Game Theory's song "Mammoth Gardens" (a song I will be trumpeting around the forum when the 1987 poll rolls around) an absurd amount over the past three weeks.

Re: Which song do you have on repeat right now?
Actually, I never listen to songs on repeat. Not even two times. Then I get bored by it too soon - doesn't matter how good and new they are and how much I like them - and I don't want to spoil the experience of a fantastic song.
Reading this topic, it seems I am one of the few who feels this way. Curious.

Re: Which song do you have on repeat right now?
I don't really either Gillingham. Sometimes I listen to a song a lot within a week period but never over and over again. I didn't realize this was a thing until a work friend had the volume low on her computer and I slowly realized she had been playing Beyonce's "Crazy in Love" for the last 3 hours. I asked her about it, and she chooses a song and plays it for a few hours and then picks another one. That would drive me insane.
Re: Which song do you have on repeat right now?
Holy Grail - Jay-Z feat. Justin Timberlake. It's incredible! And the part where they do the "Smell Like Teen Spirit" chorus? I love it!

Re: Which song do you have on repeat right now?
The other day I was listening to Another Green World by Eno and when "Becalmed" came on I was actually amazed. Possibly even more than Music for Airports, it's just so soothing, and leaves you calm in an almost spiritual, transcendent way. And it's over far too soon... Definitely on repeat for the foreseeable future.
Re: Which song do you have on repeat right now?
For the past couple of weeks, I haven't been able to get the Small Faces' "Tin Soldier" out of my head. I've had the anthology The Autumn Stone for a while as part of the boxed set I bought to get their self-titled 1967 album, but I hadn't really listened to the non-album singles until very recently, and "Tin Soldier" just plain knocked me flat. It's an utterly magnificent blast of soul-infused rock, played and sung with incredible power and passion; it manages to be controlled and precise while simultaneously sounding like it's about two seconds from collapsing into chaos. I can't believe it wasn't a hit here in the U.S. (really, if all you know about this band is "Itchycoo Park," you need to hear both this song and "Afterglow (of Your Love)" from Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake right now, as in immediately, right this SECOND), and I can't believe I've only just discovered it. You should, too.

This is a real old thread but I needed somewhere to randomly gush about Kate Bush, so here we are.
Kate Bush - "The Morning Fog"
Had the best time seeing friends in Manchester last week. Quite sad about it being over now though, especially since my best mate who's studying there is going to Chile for a year soon. I guess the memories will have to last. Coincidentally, Hounds of Love finally clicked for me as an album recently. I feel like this track says more about how thankful I am (for life, for friends and loved ones) than could ever be expressed just in words. I think the best albums of the '80s strike the perfect balance between synthesised sounds and irreplaceable analogue ones; John Williams' guitar part almost brings me to tears on its own.

Oh my goodness I had the same experience recently. I used to hear Kate Bush and think, why is this so acclaimed? But then one day, Hounds of Love just worked. "Jig of Life" and "Waking the Witch" have been my biggest obsessions, aside from the obvious masterpiece of "Running Up That Hill".
And more in line with the thread topic, I've been obsessed with "Laura" by Bat for Lashes ever since I saw it nominated for Overlooked Songs. When I looked up other songs by the artist, I was very disappointed that they were synthpop and not sad piano ballads.
Re: Which song do you have on repeat right now?
I think that song only works for a single line - "Laura, you're more than a superstar" - and the "sad piano ballad" part isn't even memorable.acroamor wrote:And more in line with the thread topic, I've been obsessed with "Laura" by Bat for Lashes ever since I saw it nominated for Overlooked Songs. EDIT: And I nominated a ballad song that was criticized for being "bland."

I think I remember that performance from the What Happened Miss Simone? documentary but that song was used to such good effect here. The footage from the Montreaux 1976 Jazz Festival is haunting.

"When I Kissed the Teacher" by ABBA is nice and catchy.
Also, the use of Sabotage by the Beastie Boys in the new Star Trek movie was pretty clever.
