I like Jefferson Airplane, but I wouldn't call this song an absolute classic. White Rabbit, while possibly more overrated, is definitely more crucial I'd say.

167. Kashmir - Led Zeppelin

There are about 15 songs left that I'm not a big fan of but I do get the appeal of all of them. Kashmir is all about the riff for me. It's a good riff, an iconic one, but that's all that the song really has going for it. To me, the song almost seems out of place with the riff. If you're looking for great songs with great guitar riffs, Zeppelin has at least 20. This isn't one of them.

There's only one song remaining that I like better than "Bo Diddley."
I feel your pain, Savoy. But Diddley had a good run. My all-time #2 ("Penny Lane") did not make the list. And my number one ("Strawberry Fields Forever") got kicked aside on day one by the man they call Moonbeam, the slayer of Beatles.

Your two favorite songs of all time are on the same 45?

I LOVE "Penny Lane," but SFF is just a 7 for me.

I actually prefer Costello's live version of "Penny Lane" as slightly better than the Beatles version. I think he sings it with more emotion for the place that the song is about than Paul did.

Thanks for the link. Costello is my seventh favorite artist of all time (behind Dylan, Bruce, Beach Boys, Stones, Prince, and the Beatles). I still would go with Paul's original vocal. Paul pays it cool which fits the tone (wry, bemused) of the song so well.

In terms of having "Fields" and "Lane" at one and two, I always felt that this single marked the band's creative highpoint and it also best illustrates the respective strengths of Lennon and McCartney as composers and arrangers.

I'll take the first (admittedly very premature) crack at predicting the top 10:

1. Bob Dylan - Like a Rolling Stone
2. Rolling Stones - Satisfaction
3. Otis Redding - The Dock of the Bay
4. Marvin Gaye - I Heard It Through the Grapevine
5. Beach Boys - Good Vibrations
6. Bruce Springsteen - Born to Run
7. Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
8. Jimi Hendrix - Purple Haze
9. Clash - London Calling
10. Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter

11. Stevie Wonder - Superstition

I don't know your guys tastes well enough for that. I would never have thought there would be no Beatles in the top 40.
Ya does seem kinda shocking  I would of liked to see more Beatles left honestly.

It is hard to be shocked about the Beatles being eliminated when Moonbeam is on the prowl :D

I eliminate:

76. Be My Baby - Ronettes

A great song for an old-fashioned song, but still the worst one left IMO.

Can the next one please do the pasting taking this into account? Thanks in advance!
I feel like that

old fashioned does not make it below anything newer. Music is timeless. Some of the greatest records ever are almost 100 years old now.
