I now genuinely like every album left. Unfortunately, I’m now voting out one of my favorite artists because I’m down to looking for “tie-breakers.” In this case, I’m not a big fan of live albums in general—even if this is the ultimate live album by an ultimate live performer. My heartfelt apologies to the “hardest working man in show business.”

Not quite sure how this album hasn't been eliminated yet, seeing as it's almost never mentioned in this forum. It's a good album, but it doesn't really feel like a cohesive work like most of the albums remaining do.

Joni Mitchell - Blue

Sorry, I just don't get it. To me she's just a mediocre artist who wrote a couple of good songs that were done much better by other artists.

So we're down to an all-male list consisting mostly of guys with electric guitars. At least all of them aren't white. :D

Joni will be missed.

Yes, we are down to 25 albums and now we will add albums instead of eliminate them. Both re-entries of top 100 albums and albums outside AM top 100 are allowed.

Please let me know also if you want to add albums during one or two days.

Oh, the Karma! I wondered where Savoy was and, when he appeared, he went on to eliminate my favorite remaining record. Are the Kids alright?

Not sure what the rules are, but I'd like to add:

Bo Diddley - Bo Diddley
A Hard Day's Night - Beatles

Been busy umpiring, it's tournament time for high schools right now. It's raining today so I'm canceled. Here's a great shot of me banging out a Seton Hall Prep runner at the plate in a county semi-final game against Caldwell last Sunday:

Copied from my initial post:

Instructions:
Every time you vote, remove the remaining album where you find it most difficult to understand its acclaim.
(This may not be the same as the album you like the least.)

In each post, show which album you have removed using strike-through text (the s button), and post the remaining albums underneath.

One album per day and person.

Edit: I think it will be more interesting if we in this game interpret acclaim as "inclusion in the top 100" rather than the albums' actual positions. So it would not make sense to remove Pet Sounds at an early stage of the game if your reasoning is "I like it but I don't understand why it's number one".

Now we will add albums instead of eliminate them. Still one album per day and person. The criterion for additions should be the album that in your opinion has the most indubitable quality.

Welcome back, The Velvet Underground & Nico. Hm, I shouldn't have eliminated Grace today - it would be better to wait a little to make sure it won't return! By the way, this rule is a bit unfair to the albums that managed to make it to the top 25 - they won't have a chance to get resurrected.

What is this based on?
It's based on a couple of things:

1) Through the conversations I've had with music critics here in the UK, it's no secret that the vast majority of critics are men. I don't think it's only a UK thing, though. If you look at the names of people who contributed to a critics list (wherever in the world it may be) it's clear that men far outnumber women.

2) Whenever I've had a conversation with a woman who takes music as "seriously" as we do on this site, hard rock is almost never one of their favourite genres. As far as I'm aware, bonnielaurel is the only woman on here and the only one who could back me up, but I think if more critics' lists were given a feminine touch then rock (and hard rock in particular) would not feature as prominently. Some people might jump up and down and call that stereotyping, but I don't think so. I can't think of a single woman I know who love the Stooges.
...will keep us together.

I'm bringing Joni back home, but not with Blue. That record is a masterpiece of emotilnal resonance; Court and Spark is one of the most thouroughly enjoyable pop records of all time; Hejira is the work of a mature human as a refugee of itself; Her transition records are better than many of the equivalents of Dylan or Springsteen. Having said that: I'll bring The Hissing of Summer Lawns. It simply antecipated The trick of Graceland by a decade, its sociocommentaries are spot on decades afterwards and its hybrid of folk and jazz is one of the most exciting sounds put on tape. Hay ho!

Two days would be nice! :P

Another day, another album!

Where's nicolas on this?? He'd add world albums :/

Now I'm split over Chico Buarque's Construção and Fela Kuti's Expensive Shit -- and surrounding them there's the threat of Os Mutantes's self-titled making it over both of them. I feel that those three records are highly influential, being overlooked by lists because of "anglophonism".

Gotta give you credit, SavoyBG. There are a couple of albums that have been added that I hadn't heard before that I'm making a point to listen to now. I've always loved CCR's singles, but had never heard the entire "Cosmo's Factory" album before, and it truly is exceptional. Thanks for the recommendation!

jamieW wrote:Gotta give you credit, SavoyBG. There are a couple of albums that have been added that I hadn't heard before that I'm making a point to listen to now. I've always loved CCR's singles, but had never heard the entire "Cosmo's Factory" album before, and it truly is exceptional. Thanks for the recommendation!
I've never been a big album listener, but that was my all time favorite album as a young teenager, before I discovered older music. Now I'd say that my all time favorite album is Bo Diddley's first album, although it's really not an "album." It's a collection of 10 songs that were previously released as singles, along with both sides of his then new single. These two albums have one song in common. "Before You Accuse Me" is on both albums. I loved it by CCR in 1970, and I REALLY loved it even more when I discovered the original version by Bo Diddley in around 1976.
