EOY 2016 - Q (UK)

Post by Harold »

According to Q's website, their year-end issue comes out today, including their top 50 albums list. It's not up on the site yet - can anyone find and transcribe the list?

Can I just say that Q sucks? I get it, I do - they want people to buy the print magazine, so they don't want to post their top 50 online ahead of time (the question of how archaic that model might be can be tabled for another time). But it's out now. How long would it take to update the website? Have I mentioned that Q sucks?

Everyone knows that Q sucks, all the British music magazines do. But especially Q.

Every music magazine in the world sucks, the brit ones aren't worse than others (not Mojo or Uncut anyway). The whole Planet sucks. But we have to live with what we have, no ?
But Q especially sucks. With that I agree.

If you actually have the list, would you mind posting it? Still can't find it anywhere online.

I don't have it, just saw the David Bowie Facebook page post about it.

I find it funny that Q and other generally mainstream or pop-oriented publications systematically put Blackstar on top or near the top of their EOY lists. It would almost make everyone forget that it's a very experimental music body of work by pop music standards. Of course, it's a relatively safe bet since it comes from a beloved artist who recently passed away, but still.

If "Blackstar" retains its #1 position on the EOY spreadsheet (and I'm certainly hoping that it does!) then it will probably be the weirdest AOTY since..."Kid A"? Maybe?

Good call! If I had to order the AOTYs from 2000 to 2016 in terms of "weirdness", I'd probably go...

****Weird****

Kid A
Blackstar
Merriweather Post Pavilion
Third
To Pimp a Butterfly
Illinois
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
In Rainbows
Funeral
Lost in the Dream
Channel Orange
Yankee Hotel Foxtrot
Modern Vampires of the City
Let England Shake
Elephant
Is This It
Back to Black

****Safe****

This is not a commentary, however, on how "good" I perceive each album to be.
