Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!
Excel simply doesn't recognize The Beatles and Beatles as the same item - these problems get exponentially harder to handle when we get to songs and albums (just think of the nightmare that is the various takes on The Rolling Stones' Satisfaction). But, yes, the 'The' listed on the file is 'The The...

Has anyone noticed that Captain Beefheart received 3 #13 votes (from myself, PlasticRam & luney6) plus a #31 vote (from Jackson)? :D Part of me thinks Captain Beefheart would rank higher if Trout Mask Replica did not exist. His work in the 70s, as well as his debut album Safe As Milk, would pro...

Thanks for the great roll-out of the results, Jimmy and BleuPanda! Happy for Stevie to stay in the top 10! I'm down to one artist left standing in my top 100. R.E.M. did really well. Happy for fans of them. To be honest, their acclaim baffles me a bit. Even though there are other acclaimed artists who I dislike more, I generally can see where the acclaim comes fro...

Number 35 for the Kinks, that's way too low. All you people that didn't put the Kinks on your list. What the hell is wrong with you! ;) Totally agree. I'll never understand why The Kinks are not a consensus top 10 artist. I noticed they placed below several artists who didn't have an album or song ...

Eno with more votes than Steely Dan. How many folks that were listening in the 1970's bought Eno albums? Only those born around 1960 or before were at record buying age during the heyday of Steely Dan and Brian Eno, so I think your question eliminated at least 90% of the forum. The rest of us have ...

That 41-50 section was great. Nick Cave has probably been my most listened-to artist this year, and I voted for him for the first time (a low vote around 80, but there's only up to go in the future as I dive into his massive back catalog). Interesting that PJ Harvey fell a few spots despite putting ...

I was not expect Elton John to enter the top 50, but I am happy. Eno, LCD, and Sufjan entering the top 50 is also great. Agree about the R&B thing, though. I'm almost relieved that James Brown managed to get as high as #55, which I never thought is something I'd need to say. Brian Eno in the to...

I used to agree with the original post, but I've come around to Blue Lines more the last couple of years. While there are certainly aspects of the production that sound dated, Blue Lines has a chill, laid back vibe that makes for an easier listen than the dark and serious Mezzanine. You could also a...

King Crimson at number 78 redeems a lot of the very weird placements so far on the list. After my first listen to The Glowing Man, I don't see Swans pulling a four-peat for my album of the year. The two-hour album length for the third album in a row is just too much. A lot of the acclaimed song list is dependent on which songs were released as singles. Bowie and Prince should definitely be two of the next ones; I'm sure everyone's been listening to them quite a bit recently.
PJ Harvey would work well for artists who have recent releases. Plus, her work is less canonized than others, so the poll would be pretty unpredictable.
