Re: Films of the 2000s: Top 150 movies of 2000s FINAL RESULTS

59. The New World Highly recommended! That last category is the most important, but it also relies on the strength of the other 3. What I think the typical 'Oscar Bait' films do is put their emphasis almost entirely on the narrative. The problem is, there are so many films that put a lot of emphasi...

Re: The AMF Top 100 Artists 2016!!!

Of the jazz artists that have been mentioned on this thread, Charles Mingus would probably have made the top 10 of my list, and Miles Davis too might have been mentioned somewhere. The Modern jazz quartet would definitely have made it as well, and others like Edward L. WIlkerson Jr. and the Mahavish...

To be fair, many of the scenarios could be considered ironic. "happening in a way contrary to what is expected, and typically causing wry amusement because of this" is what google says. And regardless of whether they are so, it's easy to see that the events described in the song would see...

Re: Overlooked Songs: Round 1 Week 6

I've never sided with the people who criticize Alanis' song for not being "technically ironic" - this is pop music, not semantics, and an amazing pop song shouldn't be beholden to such a minor distinction. However, no matter how good a song it is, the universe-encompassing "3rd Plane...

I think when someone says that Adele is more boring than Frank Sinatra, they mean that Adele's music is relatively lacking in the subtleties of Frank Sinatra's music, or lacking in the complexity of music.

A eulogy should generally be from someone who intimately knew the deceased, but I will say, from what I know of him, that Taste of Cherry and Close up were fantastic films, although they both had some unfortunate flaws. One for my baby is a really bland song. I'm sorry that you and Spiritualized think that. I feel "One for My Baby (and One More for the Road)" features plenty of layers of depths. The way he sings, "So set them up, Joe", it's sung with weak confidence, accepting the fact that he'...
